When I was growing in soil or coco my main pest problem was Gnats, to get rid of them I use to use beneficial nematodes & sticky traps, generally if I got gnats once I added the nematodes within a week or 2 max I'd cleared them up. Then I would just add the nematodes every couple of weeks just to make sure.

I had powdery mildew on one bud just before harvest, quickly cut it off and washed the rest of the plant before drying, including a water and peroxide bath, a lemon juice and baking soda bath and finally a clear water bath. Thankfully it was close enough to harvest that I was able to nip it in the bud. Gotta hate when that happens. But it's worse if you are not prepared with a plan in case it does. Great video!

DE works extremely well as long as you don't get it wet so the solution is to simply bottom water your plants every so often. You have to build up to this and cant just start overnight without your plants struggling until the roots reach the bottom of the pot. I use 10 gallon pots with huge saucers underneath and as long as you aren't required to water from the top due to recently top dressing it will completely wipe out fungus gnats. Leave it on for around a week or so then shop vac or dust it off the top of the dried / hardened soil. I on multiple occasions have wiped out entire populations where i'll go in my indoor garden and see 30-40 flying around to 0. If in flower to keep up with nutrient requirements I advise to simply use compost teas and molasses water soluble nutrient feeds during this process. One may assume they would try to find a new home but it seems they remain attracted to that soil surface and will continue trying to land on it dying in the process. Easiest/cheapest method I've ever used that actually works. Neem Castile soaps high dose peroxide and most various soil drenches all seem barely effective ( vs aphids for example ) as well as super expensive in my opinion and the amount required eventually causes more harm then good. You'd be better off just finishing the run as good as you can and saving your money.

I have the easiest way to get rid of fungus gnats. I know some others know this already but when I had them I searched the internet only to find answers that didn’t work. Top dress with a dry amendment and the top layer of soil becomes hard preventing more gnats from coming out. Use sticky traps for the residual and after a week they’re gone completely. Mosquito bits help but aren’t 100%. Use that in combination with the top dressing and the sticky traps and it’s a legit 100% way of getting rid of them.

Agreed 100% on the Diatomaceous Earth. I use it on the deck around my pots in the bottom of the tent/greenhouse. Mostly outdoors to keep slugs and snails at bay. It's pretty cheap so if it gets damp I put more down.

I battled fungus gnats for like a month until I figured out a sure fire way to get rid of them. Top dress with dry amendments and it creates a crust on the top of the soil preventing more gnats from coming out. Use stick traps for the residual gnats and mosquito bits soaked overnight and strained out before watering. IMO you don’t even need the mosquito bits but it’s just one more thing to guarantee their demise lol

Chris what do you do to the roots after you harvest the plant? Leave it? chop up the soil?
@ZeginMakesMusicАй бұрын
Recycling the roots of a harvested cannabis plant can be a sustainable practice, and there are a few effective ways to make use of them: 1. **Composting**: Cannabis roots break down well in a compost pile, contributing organic matter and nutrients back to the soil. You can chop the roots into smaller pieces to speed up the composting process and mix them with other organic materials like kitchen scraps, leaves, or yard waste. 2. **Mulching**: Dried cannabis roots can be ground or chopped and used as a natural mulch. Spread them around your garden or potted plants to help retain moisture and provide nutrients as they decompose. 3. **Herbal Tea and Extracts**: Cannabis roots have been used in traditional medicine for their potential anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. You can dry and grind the roots to make a tea or extract. However, the medicinal benefits are not as widely researched or potent as other parts of the plant. 4. **Vermiculture**: If you have a worm bin, cannabis roots can be an excellent addition to the vermicomposting process. Worms will break down the roots into nutrient-rich worm castings, which are great for future gardening. Recycling the roots in these ways not only reduces waste but also helps promote sustainable gardening practices.

Little tip for when you spray your ipm sprays. I've found using clean, dechlorinated water that's heated up. Increasing the water temp won't harm the plants unless you use boiling water. Keep the water temps between 80-90f and your good... If it's to hot for you then it's to hot for them. Good luck everyone

@Zenthanol6 ай бұрын
Matthew here. I have some suggestions for Rice Root Aphids and similar species. Without knowing more about the context, I tend to see the best results using a mix of Beauveria bassiana fungus and a botanical product like pyrethrin (not permethrin, which is a synthetic version) as a drench/foliar applications. This would also work for other aphids, too. For more information check out my videos on the Zenthanol channel.

@Zenthanol6 ай бұрын
I get this question a lot! It depends on the context but general advice includes lowering substrate moisture and free organic matter, especially plant matter that isn't very processed such as mulch helps because it eliminates shelter on which they rely, and makes things harsher for them. Without enough food these detrivorous populations quickly decline.
