I've used Side lighting and under canopy lighting for a couple of grows now and have definitely seen higher yields, everything that would normally be larf turns into viable flower
@timturk1899
@timturk1899 Жыл бұрын
More similar to "Sun grown" plants, as the light is the same strength from top to bottom. What would be "Larf" indoors, usually becomes long bottom branches reaching out from below with fat, firm flowers, just like the tops. I'm looking into getting at least 3 single LED bar lights for the 3 main walls of 5x5 tent(I have to go in the front, so probably no side lighting) that use around 50 Watts each. Have gotten some great recommendations, and need to look at what's available, now. Great Topic!👍💯

I do 2 lights in a 3x3 (2x SF2000) because I too run seeds of different cultivars. Tall ones in back short ones in front. Having the first light lower also increases the yield of the middle canopy in the taller plants.

A heads up for everyone regarding the question on cal-mag and LED's. After tearing my hair out for months with plants that were 99% beautiful but kept having small cal-mag/magnesium/nitro/etc deficiencies, the main culprits were my water and light stress! The LED/Cal-Mag issues seem to be a combination of your water source and light stress. My problem was having hard water even after running it through a Boogie Blue filter. A combination of water already high in calcium, soil with additional calcium, super soil inputs with additional calcium and any additional cal-mag water additive I added was causing calcium overload and lockout due to low root pH. I recently stopped adding any extra cal-mag inputs, stopped pH'ing my water (as I'm in super soil) adjusted my LED's, and now I have some of the happiest/healthiest girls I've ever had.

Once they upgraded their fixtures..I have nothing bad to say about Maxisun! I'm vegging with a MF2000 (230watt with remote) in a 4x4 and it works fine. It's not built for that size..so I have to turn my plants every so often..not a big deal though. It's a very well built light and would flower a 3x3 no problem! The only bad thing I will say is..the remote is handy and works great..but if it breaks or you lose it..you can't dim the light. A dimmer knob would be a useful addition. They have pretty good customer service so I imagine a new remote wouldn't be hard to come by. Great topic for the video! ✌️

I have a MIXJOY GL2000s which is 220W and it doesn't have a dimmer switch either but uses a smart phone grow light app. It's a cool app because it also has timer and mode functions. I can dim (15%-100%), set light schedule and mode (Veg, Flower or All Bright). Oh, and it also has some IR (40) & UVA (8) diodes for the flower and all bright modes. I don't expect I'll ever use flower. I'll just transition from Veg to All Bright when I flip.

I'm in my 1st grow, but seems to me that ya need a quantum sensor to really do it right. Also, from watching your podcast I realized...I didn't have enough light! In a 4x4 Gorilla I had a Mars TSW2000 (300W) n if it's 35W/Sq ft thas 560 watts! Picked up a Geeklight Monsterboard Pro 480w n now I have a Quantum board array!! Both are dimmable and I have a quantum sensor from Amazon so I know I'm running around 400 PPFD at the canopy, beginning Veg stage now. Your videos really help Chris keep them coming please

Ive got a spider farmer sf2000 and a Mars tsw2000 and I like them both. The Mars has better coverage than the spider farmer though as well as a few more watts. I'm not sure about the newer model sfs. But the tsw I received came with removable drivers and a decent length of cable to get the drivers out of your space. Being able to mount your drivers outside will cut the heat down a lot. Diggin the videos man!

Calmag sets your water hardness. Water hard or soft is dependant on the measurement of calcium and iron in the water. The higher the ppm the harder the water. The lower the ppm the water is softer. 125 to 150 ppm of cal mag is marijuana's preferred hard/soft water. Leds seem to cause plants to use more calcium making the issue more evident.

A POllpnd the differences between leaving 1 leaf per node as well as removing both?? How much does it stress it and different outcomes of it and doing it differently?? Also in VEG and Flower results or is there.??? Also how much does it actually stress the plant and what are the outcomes of doing both different styles to each plant yeield, profile tarps smells etc.???

On LED side lighting, I would like to mention cob lights with reflector rather than lens. Used in a tent, one on each corner pole, facing inwards slightly is very effective, even when constituting 50% of total lighting. Almost no hard shadows, barely and soft shadows directly under leaves. I used 4x 50w Cree cobs facing inwards with reflectors rather than lenses. On top I have a 4-bar phlizon 240w 3500k dimmable. 480w at the wall without fans and extraction. I get that downlight is the standard way of measuring light efficacy but when we are talking about plants, we really need to be talking about cross-light, soft and hard shadows, directional Vs diffuse reflection. Also, random comment, I firmly believe blurple plays the same role that MH bulbs played in the HID days. Spectrum adjustment. I see much better results with blurple as supplemental lighting

Just an opinion on the LED side lighting question, in my opinion if you have a nice even canopy using the SCROG method there is absolutely no point in having side lighting however not everyone grows SCROG. If you have taller plants and have extra space in your tent where your light isnt reaching the entire plant and didnt do the greatest job at lolipopping/defoliating it might not be a bad idea to get some side lighting in there. Its really hard for me to describe what im visualizing but what im trying to say is I think its entirely situational depending on your space and method of growing. I prefer SCROG though 😎

No body really knows. People start growing with a ton of products and say they work but never run tests. Even tests the genetic variance is to much, depending if u have a cut, seed or auto. Tats why we are moving away from burple.

The Dutch Passion blog says that the Calcium /Cal-Mag issues with LED lighting is caused by the reduced heat from LEDs causing lowered transpiration in the plant. This lowers the mobility of Calcium in the plant, so people supplement with immediately available Calcium and Magnesium to compensate. They also suggest that more modern LED lights do not have the same issues as they have a more full spectrum.

One thing in-door beginner growers do not understand is plant height and PAR..in order to keep the plant from growing into the lights you have two options you can top the plant or you can increase the PAR..if you do not effectuate enough PAR then your nodes are going to be really spaced out an the yields will be a lot lower than if your nodes were more closely packed..the closer the nodes=more branches = more bud sites= higher yields ..so the PAR readings help but the only way to know if your plant is getting enough PAR is by monitoring the spaces between the nodes. If the nodes are spaced out more than 3 inches then you need to drop the light closer to the canopy or you need to add more lights to the grow room…just think like this have you ever seen a body builder with only big biceps or does he have big biceps big shoulders big forearms etc…you cannot grow big colas if the rest of your plant does not have the structure to support it…Great Vid!

I use 2 hgl r100 in my tent. I grow autos and adjust light by raising the lights. My tenet is 2 x 4 and the blueberry lush it produced this round is outstanding. 2 lights 150 a pop and it grows better than any 1000 light I have seen or used b

Does raising the light mimic a dimming effect? I have a gavita 1700e with no dimmer yet and I feel like my saporlings are getting fried, the growth isnt as fast as it should be.

Don't have experience with it, but from what I hear a tiny bit of UVB light stress may be good for a lot of plants.

Been growing in hydro for long time. I've just started some mothers in dirt. I believe the soil is called, "the nutes"?. Anyway. Also 1st with led, I bought 2, California light works, solar extremes. 250 watt each. Lil too much lol. It's a 2x2.5. I need to start feeding them. Not used to reading plants, in hydro, it's easy, to me, dirt takes a while to notice some times, than a while to correct!! I'm not sold on led lights yet. But these guys I bought are bright AF.... but I like my super blue MH, for veg and 1st week of flower, than I swap to hps... 2k watts. I love these pants!
