Disagree with leaf talk at 30:20. Leaves under the canopy do still photosynthesize, light penetrates through upper leaves to them. Any photons hitting the soil are wasted photons/energy when indoors. As lower leaves age they go into "senescence", and the plant uses them like a battery full of nutrients cannibalizing the leaf and mobilizing the nutrients to other locations in the plant and causing the leaf to yellow and fall off. I try to leave as many leafs on as I can, but do strip bottom quarter and some interior for airflow.
@TheBudLab2 жыл бұрын
Only 10% of light will penetrate through a leaf, and MOST of that is IR / Green.. which isn't always the best spectrum for those lowers! Removing the lowers for airflow is a great habit!

And I thought my 240ppm water was bad. I wouldn't mind using it on an outdoor ground grow, but growing in coco-coir or hydro it's really tough to use anything but RO water within at least 40 ppm because tap water becomes an uncontrollable factor at that point. I really think a general rule of thumb is anything above 200 ppm is where you start to potentially have negative compounds in your water.
@gandalf8216 Жыл бұрын
I agree, but not if the tap water is at least consistent (because of previous water treating and so on). If it's consistent, it's more of a task of research and figuring out the right nute balancing for that particular water source. If it's not consistent, it's not trustworthy - at least at ppms over 100.

It's not too late to use 4 or 5 different types of sugars in bloom. Maybe there will be a difference, maybe Black Strap is the best , maybe another sugar delivery to buds works as well or better. The results could really only be determined by sight, smell, and smoke. There may or may not be a difference in THC quantity. That would require testing. If you use R.O. to make a compost tea, it's no big deal. Distilled water has more potential for deleterious effects on your body's mineral content.

Loved the content. Just a thought. . I recently cloned a determinate tomato plant called "4th of July. " Rooting happened in 4 days and the clones took right off. Some flowers were present on the mother and tomatoes developed and matured. The clones just plain stopped flowering, never developed fruit and I dumped them 40 days later. I firmly belive that this in similar to that ruderalis genetic that influences autos. Great show.

I've done experiments of trying to breed a strain more resilient to the stresses of revegging, with the purpose of creating a strain which can go into flower multiple times over its lifecycle, with the way too ambitious goal of "immortalizing" plants. DO NOT DO THIS, I still have regrets and I feel really bad for what I did to those plants. The cannabis plant is extremely prone to switch or even mix traits into new traits when put in situations such as revegging, or extreme stress, which makes breeding of such traits next to impossible. All you get is a strain which begs you to axe it early out of its misery. Maybe with some direct genetic modification I can see such a strain happening, but from breeding alone it's just plant abuse.

If you want 0 ppm, you need to deionize the water. but when you ro/di your water, you have to add back an ion buffer (calcium carbonate, or sodium bicarbonate work well) and then add both, positive and negative ions in form of some alkaline and acidic components. if combined with a good dose of cal-mag that contains a range of micronutrients (or you make your own mix) you make the water active and useable for the plants and their root microbials. You basically have to prep the water before you add the nutrients. If you want to perfectly control the nutrient intake of your plants, this is the way to go, but be prepared to make many mistakes. dialling in the right amount of buffer, ions and the basic elements to make the water active is a steep learning curve.

The "wasted" water will contain all the stuff stripped from the RO water. So the ppms will be more concentrated. Need to be careful using for fish. Outside plants/shrubs/trees will be be fine because of soil buffer. But def use the dirty fish tank water from water change to feed plants all the fish poop. They love it.

I have a Brio system that is only 1/2 gal of waste to 1 gal of RO water. I also collect and use the "waste" outside. And the meter with RO water, ya just add your basic nutes like calmag and yucca or a little A/B mix then test. I NEVER had any issues with my meter and RO water. Personally, I grow both organic and synthetic. Got 6oz off one of my last Lemon Diesel plants. I am synthetic from bottom feed and organic soil and nutes on top. I also don't fully flush or give X-hrs of darkness at the end of the flower. I only cut out the nitrogen during the last few weeks. I agree with Flushing is an emergency situation kind of thing. Thankfully, I have not had to do it yet.

I have cloned an auto flower as in cut a branch and rooting them .The problem is the plant does not get any bigger it just continues from the point when you cut the branch off . It continues to flower. not worth it , you loose too much product . Tried it a few times with the same result .
@BnMGarage2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the stage of the plant when you take your cutting. In my experience, I broke a branch while training in Veg. It was about an 1inch tall, and only had the node and two fan leaves. I planted the node in the ground with the fan leaves on the soil. Now it's about 10 inches tall inside of a 1 gallon pot.. what I've done to increase size, is to transplant it as soon as it reaches the bottom of its container. The plant will continue to grow until it hits the bottom of its container, and then it will flower. That is, if you took the cutting early enough.

30:06 not entirely accurate. A leaf not getting enough light is actually taking energy from the plant. I always defoliate. Just about every time I visit my garden I will defoliate. The way I see it, the 1 fan leaf I remove, allows 3 or 4 smaller bud leaves under it to thrive.

Hello. I'm a newbie grower (5th grow ever presently) and love your show too btw! I would like to suggest that saying 'organics v synthetics' isn't really a factually helpful comparison. You can in fact have a completely organic sourced fertilizer, but then if it is chelated - it will kill soil life and also force feed the roots, bypassing nature. So the real comparison is 'living soil' v 'chelated' fertilizers. The synthetic 'chelated' process is specifically what kills soil life. Anyway, that's been my biggest learning as I'm growing in living soil, and until this became very clear, that it wasn't about 'organics', I was still having problems. Thanks for listening...Jules

9:27 as a fish person the chlorine thing is a WAY bigger problem here, or at least is presented as such. But aside from a dechlorinator people will just aerate the water for a day. But if you do nothing and it is at a time when the chlorine/chloramine levels are high it will kill all the fish long before it kills all the microbial life.

100% chlorine in fish water is totally different then using chlorinated water for plants. All my indoor & young plants go through a filter. What I'm mainly talking about with chlorine is.. there is probably something else going on within your system over a chlorine toxicity.

@@TheBudLab I know, I agree. I'm saying it's never a problem with the microbial life, that's the important part. Why would I think about a chlorine toxicity? And does nobody else ever have the thot that if our water is toxic to our plants and fish that maybe we shouldn't drink it? Lol, omg. I mean I AM talking about people that think .....

I have a question! Does cloning off a clone over and over really effect the plant over time? I seem to always get different answers. I'd suspect it does.

They call this "Genetic Drifting" and I don't truly believe this happens unless there is a stress factor "Environmental, Pests etc"

@@TheBudLab or maybe genetic stress

Genetic drift can happen easily with unstable genetics or not taking healthy cuttings from the best plant.
