Very nice. The waste from RO is a horror to me, and finding a use for it is definitely something I want to do before I explore it further. This video has some good ideas, but I would suggest testing the waste first. In my case, it would be extremely high in Na, bad. For the compost tea stuff, well done. May I suggest JLF (Jadam liquid fertiliser) as another option?

Thanks for the tips. It is better to check the TDS of RO waste before doing this. To give a real example in my case , the input is govt water supply whose TDS is around 270 ppm here (it is high I know). The RO water output TDS is 12 (which is very good) and the RO waste water TDS is 374 (this is very high). Especially when your RO is efficient and wastes less water, the TDS of output goes up a lot because the removed salt is added to less waste water.

For hydroponics check TDS (ideally less than 100 & usually RO treated water- not the waste). After adding nutrients TDS should be in the range 700~1200 for leafy green veggies. RO waste water is usually more than 200 so best not used.

Very true, and wise caution. In my case, the waste is extremely high in sodium and manganese, so this would be wild to use.

Dr Saab good morning many say that vegetables rice daal washed water are good organic metereals or any peels of fruits vegetable and so on all are organic Saab iam an old timer Up to my college days we have seen only organic farming slowly started changing accordingly now my question is when we use the waters peels etc atleast a small %, of in organic metereals coated on the produce (modern times) we are using on plants so it's not fully organic So what's the difference it makes ? Iam breaking my head to get the answer to this I know U Are the only person to solve my question May be iam wrong and crazy but still I ask u for the guidelines Thank U Dr Saab God bless you

Yes Mam! You are absolutely right. Wash water will contain traces of that stuff. If this is a major concern, then better avoid direct adding these waters to plants. Here composting process helps. Nicely decomposed stuff , that’s composting comes to our rescue. Composting process breaks most of these including pesticides etc into harmless chemicals according to some research papers I have read.

Make sure your feedwater doesn't have any toxic chemicals or metals. The RO waste water is also known as "concentrate" which is exactly it does to anything that doesn't pass the membrane (pretty much anything but water). The plants can even further concentrate toxic contaminants. Well waters frequently contain arsenic, metals etc, leached from the earth, asn city water can pick up lead among other things from the distribution system. This is why we filter our drinking water through an RO system. Nothing wrong with this concept, just be sure your feedwater if free of toxic materials.

Won't the extra salt in the reject water as compared to tap water harm the plants sir?
@GardenTips
@GardenTips 3 жыл бұрын
The harmful salts or impurities content actually depend on what type of water is used as input to the purifier. In cities the water supply used is not harmful. A water tester is also available to test if you are very much concerned, else give it a test on one plant and observe for a month.

I would never use RO wastewater to grow my edible plants. I actually bought an RO filter so I can use RO filtered water to grow them since my tap water is so hard. Got tired of constantly adding ph down to the tap water to get it where the plants like it. The whole point of hydroponics is to have a system where plants can get the exact nutrients they need from water. You don't want other contaminants in the water that throw the balance of nutrients or ph off.

Generally your home water supply in urban areas has less TDS , so can be safely used without assay for watering plants. You can test this by regularly watering one plant for a month, like how I did and the plant did well.

I guess if you want to grow your food in a chemical stew then this is the way to do it. I'm willing to waste a few gallons a day to have clean drinking water. I give my potted plants purified water and use the standard tap water for my garden. I'm extremely lucky to live in one of the few counties in my state that don't use fluoride in the water supply. I think I may look into a multistage carbon filter setup for my garden to remove the chlorine.
