I have heard this song performed many times before by many different artists and performers. None of them have been able to capture the same level of intensity as gareth has, and none of them have been able to perform this song as good as gareth.

Dear friend. Before you make comments, please understand context. Joseph the biblical character is literally a son of a man named Israel. The "land of our own" is the land God had promised to Abraham and his offspring including Joseph (see Genesis). The biblical story of Joseph is the song's context.

I'm staying away from the political debate behind this (or wanting to), but I feel like I should point out that he's singing the role of Joseph from Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical. The musical is based on the story of Joseph and his coat of many colours from the book of Genesis in the Bible, and it was first shown in the 70s. So, in relation to your other comment, I don't think you should stop being a fan of him, unless you object him taking part in an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.

The best ever person to play Joseph is Richard Swerrun and Andrew Derbyshire both for their stage presence and voice. The worst ever person to play the title role is Craig Chalmers he got terrible voice and cant hit the high notes and no stage presence atall. Many people have played Joseph over the years from the London production to the UK Bill Kenwright tour including Mike Holloway, Jess Conrad, Graeme Smith, James Earl Adair, H from Steps, Jason Donovan, Philip Schofiled, Darren Day, Gareth Gates, Keith Jack, Arvid Larsen etc etc but the best Joseph out of them all is Richar Swerrun.

+Gareth Thomas There is more to singing than just having a musical theater belt voice. My comment was my opinion, which is rarely universal. I have gone to concerts by both Donny and Sam and have walked out wowed by their abilities. I wouldn't be able to sit through a concert by Gareth Gates because of his overpronunciation of words. I understand this is probably cased by his speech impediment but it's not something I am willing to pay money to listen to for 90 minutes. On the other hand, I saw Sam Harris for the first time nearly three years ago and enjoyed him so much that I went back the very next day for the exact same show AND I saw him twice again one year later. I appreciate your comment. It just didn't change my mind.

I love Gareth's voice, but I don't like how he approached this. He dodged a few key highs, and contrary to every one else's opinion here, I think he's lacking in the intensity that this song was written for.
