Reality check: Every single England manager since Alf Ramsay either didn’t go to Euros at all or bombed out in the group stages (Keegan, Robson, Hoddle, Capello, Taylor), or else they faced lower ranked opposition and went out in the early knockout stages anyway (Erickson, Hodgson). The only England manager who repeatedly faced higher ranked opposition in the Euros was Venables; the idea that that situation is the norm is a myth. Don’t be sorry!!! Any manager who states we have no replacement for Kalvin Phillps and has had no midfield solutions for 7-8 years should be sacked. The getting to semi finals and finals has massively papered over his very poor coaching & management. Very lucky sides of draws, beating teams like Sweden, Columbia, Ukraine, Switzerland, Slovakia, Senegal in knock out games. The ONLY wins were vs the poorest Germans team in decades & the Netherlands of half decent standard. His baffling selections like persisting with Maguire..(this tournament shown other players were better, if it weren’t for injury, he’d have still picked Maguire) Putting TAA & Gallagher Ahead of Mainoo. (Criminal) as well as persisting putting Foden on the left which kills his game. His negative boring tactics along with lack of in game changes shows he is a rabbit in the headlights. The ONLY time he was slightly more brave vs Netherlands and look at what happens!!!! Better performance & the subs made the difference. (Albeit should have come on 10 mins earlier) The results have been due to team spirit and individual moments. NOT great management. Imagine what a progressive positive manager like Eddie Howe could do!!
