Better info for using the Garmin 430 for IFR than most of the 30+ minute videos I have seen!

Thanks. That helps. Been flying airliners for a long time, but I'm just getting back in to IFR flying in small planes. The new Cirrus has a couple Garmin 430s, so I need to figure this stuff out!

Hey you're welcome! I got into small plane IFR after a 10 year gap since flying C130s... no GPS there unless someone brought their handheld unit along!

Not sure why I didn't load it in this demo, but when you fly this route you'll always be given an arrival (STAR) leading into the IAF of the RNP approach (the new name for RNAV approaches). I don't usually load any procedures until airborne and in receipt of an arrival and approach clearance - unless it's blindingly obvious or in uncontrolled airspace. So my routine would be: (1) Enter the route I did above with HN then NZHN as the last points. (2) Get my STAR clearance and "expect the RNP18Z" advice en route (3) Load both of those procedures (4) Remove unnecessary waypoints - in this case HN and NZHN so GPS sequences automatically through the points I want to fly (5) Add the destination airfield again (NZHN) at the end of the flight plan

I would definitely do this with the engine running or GPU connected
@VaughnDavisTV5 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't that make it hard to record audio?

@@VaughnDavisTV yeah, but you would definitely drain your battery and in cold WX may prevent you a second attempt to start the engine!
