About four years ago, I switched from a Garmin 810 to a Wahoo Elemnt, and I was pretty much happy about the change. I just switched back to Garmin with the 830, and I’m impressed with the improvements that Garmin have made to the 800 series. Everything from battery life, to navigation to the actual maps themselves have improved significantly, but the really big improvements are to the touch screen and the training features! I probably would have stuck withmy Elemnt longer, but I often use the navigation features, and not having street names on the maps is a real problem. Sure, you can see street and road names in the phone app, but having to stop and play with the phone is an inconvenience. All three are nice computers though. Thanks for the excellent video comparo, VN! I’ve always enjoyed Ben’s reviews. He’s a great video journalist for sure.

Nice job doing such a challenging ride! I am inspired! And thanks for doing the elevation comparison. It’s something I’ve been curious about.

Without bothering to look it up - what I suspect is happening with the Wahoo is it's displaying GPS data for the current elevation (which should be accurate), but is using a barometer to calculate elevation gain, and that isn't working as well as the ones in the other units.

I'd rather take the computer that exaggerates elevation and reads higher than it should. Looks better on Strava ;)

I run a Garmin Edge 510 with its original battery still getting 8-10hours with Power/Cadence sensors attached! Pretty remarkable. Interesting notes on the elevation. Running my iphone and 510 together I get pretty similar distance give or take 5% but elevation can be out by as much as 20% which is massive especially as Alberto Contador just Everested using an iphone...... the accuracy is more important than ever.

Interesting - and impressive - review, thanks. I'd really welcome a comparison of the navigation capabilities and characteristics of these three units, if you can swing that.

The shine/ glare in the video between devices is huge with the ROAM looking very clear in every camera angle including when there is no backlight... Is that the same experince with the naked eye?

It is. It has some sort of polarized screen.

It's awesome. It has a auto adjusting backlight too

Was there roughly 125 ft of overall downhill pavement on the road to the summit? That would possibly lead to the elevation gain difference of 500 on the Wahoo, since you'd have to essentially gain those feet twice going up and gain them again on the way back down.

I think you’re spot on with this. I think the Wahoo is more sensitive to constant variations. My Roam is always more than Strava or the Garmins that my friends have.

I recently purchased a Garmin Edge 830 - first purchase of a Garmin product. My display seems blur, in particular the the large text/characters in the main menu with white background. Annoying, a bit uncomfortable but not dramatic. I don't know if this is a defect or if I am used to better screen in general (i.e. iPhone). Are you experiencing the same?

My bolt was doing the same, sometimes 50km ride and was higher about 200m in total compared to my friend's garmin or strava elevation and windy conditions which I'm mostly riding just were making it worse.
