I’m not an ultra runner or anything - I just prefer the MIP display. Just feels more like a normal watch. I hope they go all AMOLED so I don’t get tempted by new tech and keep my Fenix 7.

I have an epix pro gen 2 51mm sapphire. The amoled screen is amazing in direct sunlight. I'm training for Ironman, run 50k a week ,etc. I would never trade an amoled screen for a dull mip. Mine with extremely heavy use lasts 10 plus days, and i always charge when it hits 20%. I don't see the fuzz about changing from mip to amoled. Amoled nowadays is pretty safe. Burn in's are not common anymore with the new models.

@@carloscssr thanks for the comment, I also have the same watch and I love it too, for me as a runner and particularly running early in the morning in pre sunrise conditions it’s amazing. I do think there are still a lot of people who have used cases that are more suited to a MIP though, for example some people like to use the watch as a cycling computer where the visibility of the MIP in sunlight is maybe easier to see full time in its dimmed state. Like you, I’m super happy with my epix and will be sticking with it for a long time 👍

@@aown yes but outdoor does not mean all year nice and sunny days :D Here in germany we does not have this year summer 😂 maybe 2 weeks . All the time rainy and sht weather . And MIP was horrible to read , thats why I changed my fenix for epix . In forrest , shade , fog , winter, rain , morning , night , is amoled a lot better .

They simply got rid of the 42mm MIP. There's still MIP options for 47 and 51mm. I very much prefer MIP myself but I'm a forerunner guy so just praying for my 255 to last a long, long time.

I think they're predicting a day in 10 years time where there is no MIP Fenix watches...and they want the name Fenix for their primary watch regardless of that day down the track. Technology could change though, and there could be a far more colourful MIP display, so who knows.

I personally can't see why they would change the MIP to AMOLED given they have a line for that already in the EPIX, unless they are scrapping the EPIX line. Maybe if the rumours are true they will even be offering an AMOLED and MIP version of the Fenix and dropping the EPIX? I just can't see them abandoning the MIP display entirely given it's popularity.

@@phil2990 I agree it’s a big risk, so many Garmin users love the MIP and are totally not interested in the Amoled. Let’s see what September brings but I think there will be a lot of mixed feelings when everything is announced. 👍

The amoled screen is great👍🏾👍🏾. But I will stay with my fenix 7 in silver(which is the most beautiful colour) anyway for a few more years. But in a few years I’ll definitely swap to amoled. If the Fenix 8 is very expensive but if it will have sapphire and amoled it will be around the same price than the Epix Pro Sapphire and that would be ok. It is great that they will offer also a cheaper version of the Fenix 8🙂. Let‘s hope that the price will not completely explode but it will be probably at around 1000€🥲🤪.

Great to hear that you enjoy the 7 and yes for such watches we definitely should be using them for many years given the investment they are. I agree, I expect between 900-1000 euro also, but maybe a little cheaper for the Fenix E.

I would love to have the Fenix name on my watch but it better have an amoled screen. It seems like it would be very difficult to put solar on that type of screen but we’ll see. To me I have a Fenix in the Epix Pro 2. It just doesn’t say Fenix on the watch. If you really want to add a true game changer to that watch. Add LTE!

Really hope that Fenix 8 will get depth sensor to be able to use it for running and apnea/spearfishing. Otherwise ill go straight for the 7 which will be cheaper than before

@@smnote3977 the fenix 6 pro is a great watch. Only thing I preferred about the later 7 was the more accurate duel band gps. The fenix 6 still has plenty of life and I still have mine as a back up to my epix pro gen 2 👍

@@HaraldHofer I’d assume that the battery will be the same as in the Epix pro 51mm which I can speak from experience and say it’s around 10 days always in and about 29 days in raise the wrist to wake up mode. 👍

@@Runningonthemind 29 days would be sufficient. I would be perfectly happy with the raise to wake mode except when having an activity going on. Do you speak from experience? If so: how long would you say you can go for a run without having to think about the battery? I did a 100k race this year an the 14hrs where no problem at all, including navigation and live track.

@@HaraldHofer yes sir - I have the epix pro gen 2 and I can say that with a full charge you can get 28ish hours of GPS and I use all satellites, so you should be well set so long as they use the same battery in the fenix 8. I have the 51mm version and the battery is different to the smaller variations. If you decide to go Fenix 8 or Epix gen 2 then you’ll need the 51mm to get the decent battery life 👍

Is there a reason why Epix Pro Sapphire 51mm White is a lot cheaper than other colors? I was planning to get one and colors don't matter to me, but wasn't sure why White version is that much cheaper. Is there some spec difference which I don't know about?

AMOLED has expirity date. It will last like for 3 years and then develops burn in. I have Garmin hand navigation from 2005 and it's perfectly fine. MIP will stick to Enduro and this will be my future watch. Perfect solution would be MIP offered as option like sapphire versions.

@@jakejoyride that’s what I’ve heard about burn out. So many people love Garmin because of the MIP. If they only have MIP in the E version that they are talking about then I don’t think a fenix 6 or 7 pro user would like that. 👍

Exactly right. I have a Garmin Venu and it has burn in. I've been waiting on the Fenix 8.....if indeed it has switched to the AMOLED display, that's a deal breaker for me. I'm not interested in spending $$$$ every three years on a watch.

It'll be interesting to see if Garmin will add wheelchair sport mode to Fenix, like in the Venu 3. I find it sad that a top watch like Fenix is not inclusive, today people with disabilities can do different sports and are forced to use the non accurate Apple Watch

I think the Venu does a great job with disabilities, just it's not the rugged watch I'd want and when we have the software we should roll it to all models, in my opinion

If you are doing MTB and using it at the handlebar go MIP, otherwise take AMOLED, that's my opinion after using MIPs for 10 years...

Great advice. Most of the people I’ve spoken to that are against Amoled are cyclists who use the Garmin as a trip computer etc. I personally love both, but Amoled for my used case works better all things said 👍

MIP display is for outdoor activity the only way to go. Garmin makes a wrong move which force me to go an other MIP brand or to a better all around watch like Apple and Samsung.

That’s what I think may happen unless they also release an MIP version. I guess that at this stage it’s still leaks so still time for things to change, but at this stage I see it being a risky move by Garmin. They already had it right with the epix and Fenix, no need to change a winning formula 👍

I agree it is expensive for a watch that won’t last all that long (5 years plus) but technology seems to just be getting more and more expensive. The Fenix is a seriously robust and a quality product, and a good thing is that there is no additional subscription. But no getting away from it, it is very expensive. 👍

it was very good three of the friends we run with have them and from what we saw they have very good accuracy in the GPS maps for free and offline just like the suunto rase they have a very good design and they are very good in general they have no differences from the Garmins even in they also have Sapphire glass, now someone has to pay so much money just to pay for the watch, what can we say more if it was a Smart watch rather than a sports watch they have double the price@@Runningonthemind
