I wear an Apple Ultra 1 on one wrist and a Garmin 965 on the other. The cellular connection of the Ultra is an important safety feature. The 965 gives me all the Garmin info I need for endurance training.

I am a Garmin user but I switched to Apple Watch 10 for daily use and will switch to Ultra 3 (or further) if it will reach a decent battery life for longer activities. I am going away from Garmin due to their politic of producing 800 models with minor differences and major bugs. They threat customers as beta testers. Plus, I understand that their focus is sport and not smart features, but why the Venu 3 has a keyboard to answer messages/whatsapp and my Epix Pro 2 doesn't? Like, why certain models have the Morning Report and other don't? I mean I understand trying to sell newer models, but the morning report is really just...a report...I mean do you really need the latest tech to display just a report? On the other hand, Apple clearly targets Garmin, Whoop, Oura and these kind of companies in their latest updates, the Apple Watch is really good in monitoring the heart rate and they are improving their algorithms based on this. The training load, the vitals, etc are all good steps in the right direction for Apple Health.
@funLad80Ай бұрын
considering the same, my Epix 2 Pro after nearly two years got more bugs than when it has been released - nap recorded while asleep, stops measureing data for like 8 hours throughout a day randomly (not showing in GC), backlight not turning on with had gesture while walking, sometimes I do not get text notifications... Then new F8 got microphone so you can answer calls, but it is very quiet and by many described as you had earplugs in your ears. They clearly release half baked products and users are treated as testers that report all the bugs. It is getting worse and worse, and they make aviation and marine products too. I suppose different (better paid) software devs working on them. I think I am gonna wait for U3. I read many reviews and I am sure I can get 2 days out of U2 battery so hoepfully U3 will be vene better. And I do not showe with watch so I can put it on charge anyway.

The Garmin Fenix 8 heart rate is super accurate for me. Im reading the comments and seeing people mention it is not accurate for them. I would ask those people if they are wearing the watch properly. It needs to be worn above the wrist bone and pretty damn tight, so it has no movement at all when doing the activity.

I recently purchased the fenix 8 after a transition from standard apple watch 9. While I like the rugged design and battery life even for the amoled version, the fact that it tracks so much data, I hate the fact that hear rate is off for any activity that is not steady state. For some reason I felt garmin would be more accurate - I guess I was trying to convince myself to buy it. The heart rate inaccuracy leads me to believe that prediction models gramin is running for load, recovery etc are probably off unless if you are a runner. I am aware of the optical heart rate inaccuracies in general and why everyone recommends a chest strap. I just wasn't expecting it to be this off. I am not an endurance athlete. I do strength, cardio, hiit, 5-10k runs and play sports. I feel that only run heart rate is tracked properly. After using it for a month I am thinking that probably I should have gone for the AW Ultra. It's still a great watch though but I feel that the AW would be more appropriate for my needs.
@JB-hq9yj23 күн бұрын
Perfect summary. Lower battery life on the AW is due to the sensors actually working hard and being nearly 100% accurate. I agree that Garmin’s data is useless if it is based on sub par sensors. Once AW ultra hits the market with longer battery life in the next few years - Garmin is done.

Apple Watch appears more accurate on heart rate because it will just drop out and not report HR when it can't get a good lock. My Apple Watch use has always seen me shorted in distance compared to Wahoo or Garmin devices as well. It clips corners and those little wobbles and cuts add up over long distances.
@JB-hq9yj3 ай бұрын
Apple’s GPS and HR is literally unmatched. Everyone knows this. Especially with HR it’s literally clinical and considered the only optical HR where a chest strap is not necessary. Enjoy your Garmin but no need to justify your purchase with BS.

Not being able to get a lock is a fail, but this can be subjective for all kinds of reasons. Band, tightness on the wrist, skin color, hair, tattoos, etc. Overall it’s better for the watch to not report HR data during blips if isn’t confident it will be accurate. Otherwise all your metrics will be skewed.

The Ultra runs for 72 hours in low power mode which doesn't affect any of the data recorded. Frankly there isn't a race or training run or anything that I do that needs the quoted Garmin battery life - it's a marketing message rather than a feature. The Apple watches are stand alone, they have connectivity without the need for a phone to be carried - I find is very amusing that a Garmin user still has to carry a phone to stay in touch but smiles about unneeded battery life - the Garmin has that battery life because it can't exist without a phone paired to it while being used if you need to stay connected to the world.

@jazzechos13723 ай бұрын
Simple to say ...BS. Here is how it goes...Garmin = Rugged Outdoors necessitates watch with 30 days of battery life sports watch //// Apple Ultra 2 = Glamping (Urban) smart watch with 36 hours of battery life (glamping meaning, water hooks ups and electrical plugin with toilet facilities)
@funLad80Ай бұрын
Apple Ultra 2 = 36 hours with display on and 30 minuts charging time, smooth and fast operation, finished product nearly bug free, works from day as it should, Garmin 8 = up to 16 days battery life with display off, half baked product, poor quality control, both software and physical side, always with many bugs even for years after releasing.
@marekbzАй бұрын
Very few Garmin's will indeed give you 30 days of battery life, but that means no - NONE - workouts with GPS. So, yes, if one doesn’t workout, then the battery life is good. Also, regarding the ruggedness, Apple actually build this one with Grade 5 Titanium, whereas Garmin chose not to do so. They are saving them for the far pricier (but not superior in terms of spec) Marq series. Garmin is good, but the "30 days battery" talk is false.
