Garmin G3X Magnetometer Interference Test and Calibration

I perform the magnetometer interference test on the GMU11 for the Garmin G3X, then push the plane to a clear area and perform the magnetometer calibration. Nice to see it all work!

Hi, thanks for posting this video. I actually have a BD4 that I've installed a Garmin GPS Nav system in. I have a GN-355 with dual G5's. I'm about to tear my hair out because I can't seem to get my system to calibrate properly. I've don't it more than eight times and every time....even after it says "calibration successful"...the Garmin HSI is anywhere between 3-20 degrees off from my whiskey compass. And before trying to calibrate the Garmin I had just swung the whiskey compass using my airports compass rose. After calibration how closely does your Garmin's compass readout match your whisky compass?

it looks like you should add shielding to your wiring harnests as well as ferite rings.

I followed Garmin instructions very closely and had Pacific Coast Avionics help out with questions. The CAN-BUS wiring is Garmin spec shielded cable, the wires for Wig-wags, strobes, and recognition lighting are also shielded. The aircraft does not indicate any interference in magnetic heading when testing with even all electrical devices on.

Hi mate, I an so happy to see your bird outside of hunger. I have one question for you... where bd5 store the fuel? I assume in the wet wings. In the instructions for bd5 everything is illustrated however part on the end of manual didn't contain any information for fuel storage pump and fuel line. Could you please in next video show me how did you do fuel supply a tank and the fuel pump. I planning to get on credit 300 libs jet engine for my bird. Alex Sydney

Hi Alex, thank you for watching my videos. I’m making them because I wish someone else already had for me to watch during my build! As for fuel storage all BD5’s store fuel in the wings. The A wings and Jet wings are full wet wings, the B wings are wet in the inner 2/3. I have the B wings and they each carry 13 gallons when full. Some of the aerobatic BD5’s also have a small fuselage tank for inverted operation. My aircraft had already been partially built and had the original plan fuel selector and lines. I removed that and designed my own system with individual fuel shut off valves operated from two red pull handles on the panel. If you search KZbin for “BD5Pilot fuel” you will see a three part video of the fuel lines themselves and another video on designing and installing the two valves. You can order a full set of plans or individual sections from Frank at Alturair, he has been very helpful during my build. You can also get a digital set of plans from the Bede Family Foundation in return for a donation, you can find that here: bedeaero.myshopify.com/products/bd-5-original-kit-plans. My build does not have a fuel pump as it would damage the mechanical pumps used by the carbs on the engine. I do use a gascolator and will install the fuel flow sensor though coming soon.
