you can buy stuff to dissolve and clean the green death in those plugs, its called contact cleaner but if your in a pinch some lemon juice will do the same, you need to solder that power wire as opposed twisting them again, the green comes from the copper corroding and the amount of time in my career as a diesel mechanic ive spent to find green death in a plug render a truck or excavator useless. grate work finding the fault and im 100% that wire that pulled out was the problem all along , i would swap it for a quality blade fuse alternative.

Just amazes me how sensitive that cable is, my fish finder the cable that connects to battery just snapped off as I was removing it from the battery luckily I was able to get a new connector and get some electrical table to put it back again. Nice video!

Ya you would think they would make the cables a bit better.

Bro we have the same jon boat as well 😂. I would suggest putting some di electric grease on the connectors. The same stuff you put on battery terminals. It will help with moisture and corrosion. Good vid.

Keep those caps on the transducer and power cables at all times when not in use... it helps

Might want to look at moving your fuses closer to the battery. If an issues occurs between the fuse and battery it could roast the wires and possibly catch fire the way you currently have it configured. Not saying it's likely, but possible.

Green is corrosion usually on your ground wire. Shoot some liquid wrench in both sides of the connector and then dielectric grease.

you said you didn't have wire nuts (totally understand work with what you have), but you should really get you some wire nuts for your connections, then add some silicone into the connection and tape over top of it all, you should be good for years around water.

I'll have to borrow some from work! I have a feeling I'll be tinkering with the wiring again soon. 😎👍

try soldering the wires to the ring terminal. please, at the least!!!!!!! lol. dont know if anyone answered your question, but the green stuff is corrosion.

Use a waterproof sleeve over your connectors. You heat it up and it shrink wraps it tight. Electrical tape never holds up. I have to deal with Salt water which is 20 times more corrosive.
@BentRodBassin
@BentRodBassin 5 жыл бұрын
I'll have to get some of those, tape is probably not a good idea, lol.

I have the same unit. Mine does the same thing at that orange connector. You just have to make sure it’s tight. Mine also used to shut down from a bad ground, but I fixed that

My 9sv does the same at orange connector that is crap Garmin should improve. You can clean with white vinegar, use dielectric grease and on my power and ground connections I would solder and heat shrink where I could.

@@CProFishingWithWayne After doing alot of connection searching I found out my whole problem was the battery. I have a 3 bank charger on board that wasn't giving a full charge. So not long after being on the lake unit would drop below 12v giving me all the transducer lost errors.

You need to add Dielectric grease to your connectors. But what I really mean is everyone needs to add Dielectric grease to all of their connectors.

@@BentRodBassin LMAO I have no problem with mine....but if I did I'd know what to do and what to call things...like oxidation instead of that green crap.......LOL I also know you put fuses as close to the power source as you can,not as close as you can to the item consuming the power...lol I have rewired cars/trucks,homes,etc...there's no difference except voltages they use. It's like working on engines too.Car,boat,atv,semi trucks,and heavy equipment.....not much difference there either,they all work on the same principle.Air/fuel in,spark/compression/heat,exhaust out.
