Great video. I’ve come from the Vivoactive HR, Vivoactive 3 and just got the Venu2 for Xmas. I’m an iPhone user and one of the things that keeps me away from the Apple Watch is having to charge everyday, which is unacceptable in my opinion. Turning off the Blood oxygen monitor on the Venu2 will give you 11 days of use. Which is amazing. As you rightly said, if you want a watch that is an extension of you phone, knock yourself out with the iWatch The Garmin however just gives you a fitness based and focused health watch and in my opinion a better watch for that. I keep my phone on me all the times, I don’t need another one on my wrist.

Fab review. My main beef with Apple Watch 6 is that they seem to have outsourced entirely the fitness side of their watch. Any decent app for fitness, sleep, is subscription-based. I paid nearly 500 euros for that watch only to learn that I have to pay subscriptions if I want any decent fitness/sleep tracking. Currently I went back to my old Samsung Active 2, until I can afford a Garmin. Garmin seems to be the solution. I wished I researched better.

Great video! Both watches are great watches. However, for people looking for a fitness watch Garmin wins hands down. I own every major Apple device from a Macbook pro to an Iphone. But the Garmin is specifically designed for fitness purposes and everything one could need is already integrated into the Garmin Connect ecosystem. I would argue the Iwatch is good for casual fitness people who primarily exercise to maintain or lose weight while the Garmin watches are designed for people with actual fitness goals. The running metrics from Garmin alone are worth the price of admission. That said, I'm in the process of getting the Garmin Venu 2 to complement my Fenix 7X which I got last year. Below are my thoughts on the two Garmin watches. The Venus 2 is an awesome watch especially if you can get it on sale. Right now (fall 2023) Garmin has them discounted by $100. I have a Fenix 7X and I love that watch but I'm realizing that its just too bulky for daily use - especially for sleeping. I plan on using the Venu 2 for daily use, sleeping, work, and travel. If I lose it or it gets damage I won't be too upset. My Fenix 7X, on the other hand, will be my dedicated outdoor sports watch which I use several times per week. For anyone new to smartwatches (sport watches in particular) I would highly recommend the Venu 2 (or newer) and not the lower-end Garmin models which are missing many features. The Venus 2 does almost everything my Fenix 7X does at a much, much lower price. It also has a beautiful AMOLED screen that even my beloved Fenix 7X doesn't have.

I prefer the look and the athletic metrics of a Garmin but I am concerned with loss of usability with my iPhone. I listen to books on audible or podcasts when I run or do work around my house. Sometimes I have a KZbin video going in the background during chores. I also listen to iTunes when I workout. I really enjoy the connivence of being able to pause, rewind, or skip using my iPhone. I don’t have patience to mess with a bunch of apps or screens just like it simple. Can you demonstrate usability of an Garmin paired with an IPhone. Thank you
@ChaseTheSummit2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The Garmin's are fully compatible with IOS devices but not quite to the same level of integration as the apple watch... This is mainly due to apple prohibiting third parties from doing certain things, not Garmin's fault. That said, the Garmins have no problems with remote play/pause/skip track/ volume up and down with various apps like KZbin, audible, Spotify, etc... The only real downside of the Garmin's compared to Apple is that you cannot respond to text messages from the watch, and the watch does not have a speaker/microphone on board to answer phone calls. Hope that helps!

And the latest fitbit sense seems nice but like why won't they just make a round form factor. I love that Garmin has huge variety in their watch designs - like there are some very stylish watches. The apple watch 6 looks almost exactly the same as the watch 2 that I have. Personally I'm tossing up between garmin venu 2s and the cheaper vivoactive 4s. The main difference is the screen and a few things like HIIT workouts. like if screen quality isn't the end of the world - the vivoactive 4s is way cheaper and better looking than apple watch 6 and you just get so much more data (and its easier to interact with) with garmin

Im a regular gym goer, but not an 'athlete' or into elite high performance. I also have diabetes and have a heart stent. I enjoy crossfit, HIIT, powerlifting and Spinning. Don't enjoy running! Which one is right for me?
@ChaseTheSummit3 жыл бұрын
They would both do the job. If you don't mind charging the watch daily the Apple Watch Series 6 is an excellent purchase! The Venu 2 is a bit more "sport" oriented.

@@ChaseTheSummit Thanks for your personal answer. And I have found your video's really helpful in helping me understand this market, as I knew zero about it beyond apple a few days ago! Yeah, I've decided the Venus 2 is best for me. As I said, I don't do running or triathlon, so dont need maps or super extended battery life. And your guidance through video's really helped me reach that conclusion!

Hi Dave and thanks for great video! Do you know what is the battery life on AW6 or 7 during the hiking for example and using GPS from phone?
@ChaseTheSummit2 жыл бұрын
If you use the phone GPS it can go for 10+ hours depending on settings. I once met someone who ran an entire 100 mile ultra and had used an apple watch connected to a phone without having it die. The internal GPS drains much faster.

Great video and big dilemma. I am a garmin user for 2 years so far and i am thinking to upgrade my watch. I love apple watches and sicne I am iPhone user is ideal pick for me but that battery life and charging routine every day makes me feel that the right choice is garmin instead of Apple Watch. So confused 😐

Kind of up to you! Apple watches will require a daily charge. Garmin's will not. The Apple Watch is certainly more "smart watch" than fitness watch. Good luck!

Great review. I'm an Android user and current have a Vivoactive 3. Looking to possible upgrade and the amoiled screen and slightly larger size of the Venu 2 has my attention. For me, tbe Apple is a no go because I will not change from Android and already familiar and like Garmin. My interest is health & fitness 1st, smart phone watch features 2nd, so I will stick with Garmin...

This is probably one of the only review videos I've watched in its entirety. Thanks for the thorough comparison! I'm still torn though, ha! I don't really want the apple watch but being a teacher, my school system uses all apple products and I could control apps on my mac from my watch when moving around the gym (such as my music). I am really leaning toward garmin for all the wellness insights though!

That's a tough one. The Venu 2 doesn't support Cycling Power meters if that's something you're into where the Apple Watch potentially could with the right app/hardware. Neither have navigation but you can download offline mapping apps on the AW6 if that's something you're into. Both will do the job at a basic level though.

Hi Dave, how often do the Apple 6 sample it’s continuous heart rate? Thanks!
@ChaseTheSummit3 жыл бұрын
The sampling rate varies depending on what you're doing. If you're working out it's 1-second samples continuously. In standby mode it seems to vary probably based on the gyro/accelerometer data. There's no way to change this unfortunately.
@Ordinary-Hendrik3 жыл бұрын
@@ChaseTheSummit Dave, Thanks! The standby mode sound dynamic. This can be a problem to monitor the daily heart rate like in Venu or polar.
