One of my favorite songs of all; and Garnet’s rich voice and guitar playing talent is as important as the words and melody of the song. If I recall correctly, he wrote it for friends who were getting married.

I enjoyed the story he told about writing it when he first started playing it. He promised a friend, somewhat rashly, he would sing at her wedding ( had HATES doing that). Up to a couple of days before he still didn't really know what he would play. Then on the way there his car broke down and while waiting for help the song came to him. Frantically writing it down on the side of the road, telling the roadside assistance guys not to bother him until he wrote it all down, then playing it at the wedding a couple of days later. Of course he tells it far better than this and it's absolutely hilarious!

I understand that you played that beautiful song a thousand times from the day it was born, the baby has walked and the child did grow. The love that was shared from the start has changed from love as it was to lost hope for the love that is...

I have been a Garnet fan for years. Guess I've lost touch since he has not been to NC for a long time. What accident?!

My first impression it is in an open tuning. Maybe a drop D, but I think an open E, like Joni Mitchell used on so many songs, Radio, Yellow taxi, ...
