It’s not like in every other show where the cool kids are just jerks, like, these kids are interesting, empathetic, have hobbies and talents, and are just fun to be around. The cool kids are the best, and they’re around a lot through the series.

I’ve been waiting to comment this: This is what makes Steven Universe a goated show, the representation and deep characters. Garnet’s character gained so much depth after Jailbreak. Not only is she black and voiced by a black women, she’s also a rep for the LGBTQ community. This show rep’d everyone and didn’t care what others said about it Also, their songs always hit, no matter who you are

Hell yeah! Heck, there were multiple points that the show almost got cut down or cancelled by the network because Rebecca Sugar insisted on showing a certain gem’s wedding. It’s the reason why season 5 feels so rushed at the end. But Rebecca kept pushing and I respect the hell out of her for that. It feels great to see that level of representation, and for it to feel normal. A lot of people over-glorify it, but it should just feel like a normal part of life. And Steven Universe does an excellent job of that.

She actually wrote about many of these struggles in a book she published after Future finished airing. As well as in an interview.

About the season 2, you already started it, Jailbreak is the finale of season 1. In the last video you actually skip 2 episodes that were supposed to come before The Message,you skip episodes 47, "Shirt club", and 48, "Story for Steven", the episode 46 too, but you just watch it, it's "Open book". Season two started in the episode "Full disclosure" where Steven tries too avoid Connie. Great videos, hope this help with the episodes

This show does a phenomenal job showing us things and it feeling completely different later on. Garnet being a fusion wasn’t explicitly shown but the show didn’t really hide it either. Ruby and Sapphire are a treat too. One of my all time favorite couples. Now that I think about it Garnet is similar to Steven in that regard in that they are both the result of love. There are traits Steven shares with Amethyst and Pearl too.

Garnet’s song is probably still my favorite in Steven Universe. Not to mention the fight and the proper reveal of Garnet being a fusion. It explains why she took it so personally whenever she fused with Pearl and Amethyst.

Honestly, the show had questionable writing even before Future. Too many filler episodes, the ending was especially rushed since we got 3 new fusions for brief moments and the Diamonds are easily redeemed despite causing galactic genocide. And of course Rose’s whole character. I just find the franchise now simply OK, given how it’s mostly made by storyboard artists instead of actual scriptwriters.

Buck, Kiki, and Sour Cream are actually intentional parallels to Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl. Buck wears a pair of glasses like Garnet’s visor, Kiki carries this same confidence and “I don’t care what you think” mindset like Amethyst, and Pearl and Sour Cream are both pretty slender with lighter color hair.

I definitely think the whole "starts out slow and ramps up," thing for season 1 is much more applicable to a rewatch. Its definitely still true on a first watch. But the episodes are solid enough to not feel slow the first time around.

Yes!! I totally agree with your wrap up at the end, I love that they started with “slower” episodes because it really made us connect with the characters more before we got to the heavier stuff. ❤️ Also, some others have said this too, but Jailbreak is the last episode for season 1. I think where you’re watching is a bit out of order, Open Book came before Political Power. Full Disclosure and Joy Ride are from season 2, but I do think Joy Ride works too as an end for this batch. I hope the rest of the series will be in order wherever you’re watching, though! Loving your reactions ✨

* Every streaming service is weird about the order of episodes. Jailbreak is "properly" the end of season 1, it has a climax and ends on a cliffhanger. * I kinda missed the whole thing the first time through with Connie, that when Steven wants to protect her, her response is just, stop, that's ridiculous. She wants to be a team with Steven, and wants Steven to act like it too. In retrospect, it makes a lot of sense, and I like it, a lot. * I always get the sense that the gems DON'T blame Steven for his mom not being around. I get the sense that they blame GREG. Of course, Steven has a lot going on either way...

western anmated shows from cartoon network and disney channel usually always starts off slow then show more of the plot slowly when it get close to the end of the season. you can see it in gravity falls, the owl house, star vs the forces of evil and majority of disney shows while cartoon network is has some of those but a lot of them have very unique pacing

This is the original airing order. Cartoon Network moved stuff around to do a "Steven Bomb," an episode every day for four days followed by the two part finale. Production order had most of the early season 2 stuff in season 1, before the finale, and Full Disclosure in season 2. This is why Garnet has her Season 1 outfit in Say Uncle, fun fact.
