Honestly if Ruby and Sapphire was captured after leaving Blue Diamond they would probably be rejuvenated, atleast Sapphire because Blue Diamond said that she would shatter Ruby. But Blue Diamond still treated Sapphire more important than Ruby in diamond days by saying to Garnet how Sapphire was more smart than Ruby

Finding out CN cut Rebecca short on SU because of the same sex marriage and probably why the channel doesn't even rerun SU episodes helped me realize that CN or Disney or any of these studios aren't the pioneers behind more progressive cartoons. I used to be like "CN is so open and accepting!" or "Disney is becoming more diverse". I thought it was something they were saying yes to and even encouraging but now I know that's not the case and that the representation we get is thanks to the creators and their team who push.

Yeah, it's really sad to hear that and also sad that the reason that SU Future was only greenlit because of the movie. But I'm still glad that the creators really pushed for this, and didn't give up despite the opposition. At least, we still got a great show and it ended really well.

Yup. It really sucks. Plus, I just had an encounter with an internet homophobe, so I'm in an all around pissed-at-bigots mood. But this vid was just what I needed. nothing like a good ol' gay love story

This is gonna be long. Both companies have simply been virtue signaling for years. People praise diversity, put representation on a pedestal and get sucked into what media *means* to them rather then what it really *is*. These companies know this and they exploit it, just like any other business. We as an audience hear one or more buzzwords about a show and flock to it with unbridled worship. That’s what they’ve always pandered to. That’s what they count on. We have become bland and mediocre in our consumption of media. Too biased to criticize it based on such trivial merits as diversity and representation. I don’t want either. I want a good story. Not a good story substantiated by my own head-canons, what I personally relate to, fan content and perspective-a good story period. And if there’s some gays and blacks or whatever other arbitrary minority community there, yay. But I’m not patting a company on the back for it anymore. SU is not the best experience in writing and Disney’s earlier efforts were much more fun and varied than now. Now for Rebecca. She should have been cut much earlier than future tbh. She was allotted only a handful of episodes. Instead of fleshing out the lore and slow burning to a satisfying conclusion that gave the characters and the plot closure, she dropped all correlation to the original lore and plot, squandering the epilogue to focus on the slapstick from the original series, now rewritten as “trauma”. We have seen Steven breakdown in part one and bounce back as a child. He had a voice and he used it to address and resolve his own issues and others. But now, as a teenager he just...becomes a homicidal sociopath, unable to explain his feelings despite his character literally being predicated on feelings and talking it out. Ok. And still Rebecca manages to squeeze in a few unrelated episodes that have no baring on the plot outside of convenience. The other lapis? Never seen again. Remember all the townie episodes? They’re never seen again either. Not with any weight on the story. Just for plot contrivance. All that goofy shit from season one? That is now an excuse to use Steven as a vessel to explore what Rebecca believes to be ptsd. I found that odd considering the CG and Steven had been through far worse and worked through their trauma in part one only to lose all coping, communication and observational skills. They never press Steven on his Ooc behavior and he never goes to them for help as his character would. Remember jasper? Remember how she *almost* had a character arc? Remember how she seemed to be handling the reveal of the diamonds and other gems being good and not bloodthirsty well? How she and amethyst shared that loaded look at the end of season 5? The show hopes you don’t because she is dropped immediately after serving her purpose to the plot. she’s a catalyst for its progression and comedic relief after that. Remember peridot and lapis? Bismuth and Connie? Well remember that they’re benched this season until they’re needed. Remember the buildup to the state of home world and their eons of planetary devastation? Welp please forget about it because that is never mentioned again. Everyone is good now end of story. Only gem conflicted is apparently jasper because clearly she was the only gem negatively affected by all the war mongering lol. Nephrite is fine guys. All the bubbled quartz are just chilling. The cluster is fine being a mass of screaming consciousness and having it’s creators so close by. Creators that can now inexplicably fix their forced fusions and corruptions and never fix the cluster. No conclusions for characters that had actual arcs. Lars is immortal and was implied to be a space pirate (curiously dropped in future), but he’s Filipino or something and makes pastries so it’s all good. Sadie broke up with the character she shared all of her development with offscreen and finds a new hookup whom we’ve never seen. But Sadies gay or something now so 👌🏽. Steven literally murders jasper and attempts to murder white, but poor Steven is just so *traumatized* that he never has to answer for that. In fact, none of the other characters ever even know. Both his victims brush it under the rug. it’s revealed as an incoherent throwaway line...but he has ptsd so he can kill whoever he wants and we are morally obliged to excuse him and justify his psychopathy. Remember how spinel worked through her trauma and became a better person? Well now she’s a bumbling idiot who can’t read the room and understand that Steven is apparently going through the same thing. Oh...pink pearl. Remember when we thought we’d get more insight to pink with her? Well she is just an excuse to make a fusion anime reference and frankly, she’s season 1 pearl and is never relevant again. And of course Greg, the loving father. Remember how he was always there for Steven? Well, now the show wants you to believe he’s an asshole because his parents treated him with derision and he ran away from home. Yknow, because he knew then that he was going to meet a complex rock dictator and be the single father of their baby. How dare he escape from a broken home to start a new life. Being the patriarch to stevens matriarch household in the absence of his late wife . Oh and the show also thinks he’s trash for not putting Steven in school or introducing him to said trash parents. Steven is an alien rock hybrid. Of *course* Greg didn’t put him in school or take him to a hospital. Steven literally has healing powers and a gem stuck to his navel. How tf was Greg supposed to explain stevens unique anatomy to health professionals and teachers? This isn’t his third gem baby, Steven is his first. He doesn’t know what to do and he did the best he could. It’s actually weird that the show chooses to demonize Greg to progress Stevens inferiority complex. Steven then nearly kills him throwing a temper tantrum and Greg is an idiot now so he instantly begins to forgive Steven and explain his actions away rather then address the pink elephant in the room and have something done about his sons random meltdowns. He never brings it to the CGs attention...That may be for good reason though. As they are now non-characters, they never do anything about it anyway. They make one attempt to prompt conversation, look mildly concerned when Steven recoils, call after him, and then fuck off until the cycle needs to be repeated. It was frustrating to suffer through as a huge SU fan.

Rebecca kept pushing for a Rupphire wedding episode (this was one of those things that she + the crew had planned from the beginning or at least early stages). CN would always shut it down, and she try again later, the cycle repeating. At one point she decided to stop and wait for the proper time. Two things came together to make Rebecca try again for the Rupphire wedding A.) Change Your Mind was coming up and she just couldn’t see that whole resolution happening without the Rupphire wedding and B.) Ian had proposed to her (Ruby and Sapphire have always represented Rebecca and Ian). So she once again approached CN and really fought hard and adamantly for the wedding. They eventually said yes, but they told her that was the end of the series, that she’d get the wedding and 5 subsequent episodes (Change Your Mind). We knew beforehand that CYM was supposed to be X amount of episodes, and that Rebecca had to fight for a little extra time in order to properly wrap things up. So talks about it, and the overall shitty, queerphobic treatment her and the Crew had to endure at the hands of CN through the years in End Of An Era. It’s awful, really, and it really puts a whole new prescriptive on Pink/Rose, the battle w Steven and White, and Future tbh.

Dang imagine the ep that could've been, we could have had an arch where Steven WASN'T pink diamond and he fought as a "lesser" being, but this causes a surge deeply embedded in him to come alight and a mysterous to surge not from his gem side, but his human side activates, this alludes to a bigger piece of the puzzle that foreshadows the connection steven has not only with gregs heritage, but the cosmic clay golems (like rebeccas student film) who made the gems and the horror that entails. I hope I can work on something steven universe-like, I have a big emotional/spiritual connection to the crewniverse and I'm constantly writing where SU should go from now on. You have so many fans who care about the characters, I like to have something that flows with both!

That Rhodonite story sounds really interesting. I mean, yeah it's incredibly cruel and sadistic that they were rejuvenated seventeen times, but the fact that they were able to find one another and rekindle their relationship is really beautiful and heartwarming. This story would be incredible if it were turned into a graphic novel, because I don't think it would be able to make it to television without being heavily censored and watered down since this is basically an allegory for conversion therapy.

Anyone think this idea is cool to see for a SU story. We get the former antagonists of the show proper like Emerald, Holly blue Agate, and Bluebird Azurite grow to like certain parts of Earth culture, but the darker side like illegal racing, drinking, cut throat corporations, etc. Anyway, they slowly but surely integrate into human culture, but with the goal of conquering earth: stating that Homeworld can belong to the Diamonds but they can forge their own paradise on Earth as its new rulers.

That’s quite the interesting sounding story. Makes me wish this show does canon ancillary media like comics and novels more often and that Future was a longer season. This is definitely a huge missed opportunity when it comes to that season. Although judging from how certain series’s like Invader Zim was able to make a scrapped episode idea into a comic later on, Adventure Time reuse a scrapped season 1 episode idea into a episode in one the last season, along with certain parts of the Art Book being blurred out, there might be a chance we’ll get this story someday. It kinda looks like the show crew has some ideas for a potential revival/continuation of Steven Universe in the possible future (pun not intended).

"Warning long rant" Honestly The show was a beautiful piece of art it taught everyone real world lessons in a natural way that made sense, and well, could even get through to dismissive adults that mental/emotional health is a important as physical I.E. my friends/family's parents Plus if a pearl and ruby get together over 17 times I personally feel as though those 2 gems were LITERALLY made for each other and it wasn't their or the rejuvinators fault those feelings didn't go away, kinda like destiny how homeworld would just dismiss that, honestly makes me feel like they are trying to ignore the truth or at least ignore the plausibility that this might be intentional to a certain degree in their creation or at least not something that could be controlled the fact that blue didn't seem surprised but only angry at Garnett to me shows maybe she has seen this before and how pink didn't know shows maybe they hid it from her in a sense to try to get her from "taking things to far" by potentially fusing a lot with a lot of other gems at least to me might be why she didn't know it was possible the diamonds knew and the common folk didn't I.E. the jade fusion joining in in the dance not knowing there were others. But you know deep messages and spreading thoughtful and awesome messages about acceptance is apparently a bad no no to big ol cartoon network because it has gay characters "I get some countries it illegal to show that stuff for whatever reason but still" it was a good show and is a great way to get kids teens and adults to take themselves seriously and just let others be themselves even if you may or may not like whatever they are doing I loved the show and loved how perfect it was rhodonites tale would have made the story feel as though the gems maybe have been made to feel that way ON PURPOSE and that love isn't something you can run away from or even forget it's ingrained in you and part of who you are and for anyone still reading this thanks for coming to my Ted talk and remember you are loved and you will find the right person out there just try to look for them in a different light if it's hard for you.

I empathize with the vulnerability it will take for you to share your personal experiences in your review of Future, and I commend you for it!! I thought the season was incredibly relatable to all people who go through the growing pains of adolescence, discovering who you are, having people around you understand who you're becoming, and feeling bottled without knowing how to express yourself. I agree that while I would've loved to see so much more about the lore and the history, it was really clear that the point of Future was to focus ON the future, and how Steven would build it. All the unanswered questions are really just another deep dive of the past, and the show was depicting how important it was right now for Steven to leave that behind and focus on who HE wanted to be and what HE wanted to do, looking forward and to the future. The rest of that could get dealt with once he found his footing again. Thank you so much as always for your thoughts!

I was super interested in the off colors back stories.. like fluorite , paddy, and rhodonite. They should’ve BEEN had their back stories way before Steven universe future, it really sucks that we didn’t get that. Like we had some many filler episodes..where that story could’ve fit in.
