Not understanding the words is one of the best parts. Then I can judge by the emotion in her voice, the flow of the music, and the actual sound of the instruments. Though I wouldn't mind understanding Japanese songs.

I finally took the first steps in learning Japanese (several years ago, now) in part because I wanted to be able to understand Japanese lyrics of so many great modern Japanese songs, especially from such amazingly talented singers/artists like Maria and Toku of Garnidelia! It has taken years so far, and I'm still not quite there yet, but I'm making steady progress, and I can understand it bit by bit, more and more. It's really gratifying to learn such an interesting language as Japanese, and finally begin to understand some of my favourite songs and other entertainment.
