Classic Mini LED Halo Headlight Installation Tutorial / How to Change Your Mini Headlights

Just a quick video of me installing my classic mini halo lights.

These are LED halo ring lights, which are similar to those on total car reviews, and stevensco garage, and I’m pretty certain the same ones that Keith installs on his mini.
This is not a tutorial video, so please don’t expect a guide, however if you do want a tutorial I will be putting one together.
This lights are similar to the ones installed on David Browns mini remastered. They give off a lovely amount of light, and make a spectacular difference in vision.
They have a white halo ring, and also and orange halo ring which would be connected up with the indicators.
These lights are pretty easy to install, they’re almost plug n play, but will need piggybacking off the indicators.

Hey mate, here from down under. My old man has a Leyland mini. But the problem is. Our model had the generator not a alternator. Is it still wired up the same as you have done or is it different?

Hi, since covid hit the better quality ones are harder to get ahold of. Brexit has also increased the prices. Best thing to check for is the sae markings, but it’s still a gamble unfortunately.

@@anthonybrown7959 The main thing to look out for is the sae markings. Also be aware that the UK laws actually state that you can’t install led lights to a car that wasn’t manufactured with them

What year is your mini mate? And did you have any issues with fitting? I've read those with later models with the plastic bulb housing and not the metal ones need to file down the LED light heat exchanger. I own a 1990 Checkmate flame edt.

Ben Sneddon mine was a 1987 model. Unfortunately that is true about them, you would need to file them down. Sometimes you can get thinner LED units, but they’re not as good quality, or SAE marked. You can put an angle grinder on the backing fairly easily though to be fair.

Ben Sneddon technically speaking any car built without LED lights, shouldn’t have LED lights. Obviously LED lights weren’t around this far back. (This is based on the laws with LED bulbs, I’m unsure if complete units are different). Some garages would pass them, but you will get some that won’t pass them. People always suggest going to a friendly MOT tester. There are a few youtubers on here that have taken their cars with LED lights fitted and it’s passed fine. I asked a garage, and the owner said it was down to the tester. I use a garage known to be generous with little issues, they’ll tend to pass the car if a bulb is out and then replace it etc. They’ll only ever fail the car if it’s major work required.

jonathan Lewis hi, they’re actually from Halfords, can pick them up from a few shops like the range and stuff like that cheaper though. The side lights / park lights You can always run them off the ignition on wire though
