Great video Robert I have the at pro and when I go to the beach I have some of the same problems you had with the max maybe not quite as bad glad you shared that I am now saving up for a Excalibur 2 Happy Hunting my friend. But in freshwater my at pro works fine.

I have an ATPro and hunt nothing but beaches down here in Texas. That’s why I’m about to get a White’s MX Sport. Can’t handle the chatter. I do love the AT Pro for the dry sand, tho. Love your channel. Just found you yesterday. ;)

The AT Max does have increased sensitivity! With it's 175 levels of ground balance you should be able to get it close then turn down the sensitivity till you eliminate the chatter. If you think about it, the reason you couldn't pick up the Black Sand with with your old detector is that it was already tuned out somehow. High sensitivity will pick up Black Sand and chatter unless tuned out someway. Its detecting!

You can either ground balance to the minerals in the ground or the salt can't do both unless it has a beach setting

Hi Rob, I have run the AT Pro on the beach for years and never had that amount of noise and it hunted fine. first I wouldn't have it in All Metal, Don't run it with a coil cover on it, ground it yourself, I have an Excalibur 2 also and since getting that the AT stays home for park hunts. I cant see myself getting a Max. Good luck on your hunts.

My Garrett AT Pro suck on the beach but great for fresh water rivers and land. Its paid for itself from river hunting. Do you still have your excalibur? All your current videos are with the equinox.

I always enjoy your videos but I enjoyed this one especially! Garrett has a problem with coils.. I had one too and it would never shut up. I sent it in and it turns out the coil was bad.

I own a $44.00 detector from menards and I set the discrimination to 1/2 and the same for sensitivity and got a penny and a quarter just under the sand in the water and works just the same in the dry sand. It's a Barska winbest pro edition. Yeah, it's a cheap one but I'm a newbe for about a month now, but I still enjoy doing this stuff! Gonna get a "real one" soon! Good hunting!

I just watched an Aussie run his on wide open sensitivity. He ran it in Zero mode, iron audio off. Discrimination at the highest (44). Then he auto ground balanced pumping and swinging side to side. He walked from dry sand into the surf and back. Very little chattering and at full sensitivity.

Jason perkins if you have yr descrimination on full you will get rid of the chattering but you will also remove the gold and most of the coins too

@@johnsalt19 no you will not discriminate gold and coins. Lowest number I found gold was 48 and the lowest coin is the nickel which is around 51. Run it on 40 discrimination on zero mode and if there is any gold or coins you will find them. Turn your sensitivity down to 2 bars. The AT max goes deep in wet sand.

Robert, have you watched the Garrett training videos for the AT Max? They always re-ground balance, even as they move from wet sand to salt water. You CAN set it to ground balance automatically, I guess - which you may have done. They show that excessive ground balance also causes noise. Ground balance manually to the point at which noise is least. Which kind of ground balance did you use? I saw you pumping it, but .... Wow, that really does not get it, if you did it right. Yeah, your ground balance just was not working at all. You can't give up all that sensitivity.

Nice beach Robert. Did you say it was located in France? LOL! I have to auto GB my AT Pro to get it close and then manually GB to the negative about 6 to 8 clicks until it quiets down. I also re-GB when moving from dry, dry over wet, and wet sand. I never have been able to get it to work good in the salt water. I never have to go below 3-4 on the sensitivity. But, that's the beach here, not where your are. And, I'm assuming the Pro and the Max are similar. I also got Sea Hunter Mk2. Solved the beach problem. Your videos are looking good with the new cam.

Hi I was introduced to your videos by my little sister Leona she adores your laid back attitude and so do I! I want to purchase a new detector that will work in fresh and salt water. Wireless and underwater proof and most important lightweight. Arthritis in my hands. Could you recommend a few MD so I can research them? I was looking at the Garrett Max but just heard of the Makro Multi. I have a fisher 22 I have outgrown that got it last month hahahaha took it to Victoria BC and had a blast first find a musket ball and then coins and bullets. Totally addictive its like controlled walking with downward dog motions. Love it best hobby EVER! I am a pirate now. If I get in a draw and I am lucky to win then I'll take anything but its going to my little sister shes the real pirate. She had a stroke very young and now has bad arthritis in her foot and she went from a walker/cane to free walking because of dirt fishing. thank you for hours of enjoyment. jt

Not all the time. Having said that ,,,,,,, the CTX 3030 isn't a pi machine and is a beast in the ocean water. I come from the north east USA and find my 3030 is awesome in the ocean. No chattering at all, no ground balancing.

I know this machine runs pretty quiet in the saltwater with waves breaking over it with most of the sensitivity I want to say three bars down from the top however I don't think the settings for this or in the instruction manual and there's certain hoops you have to jump through in the settings and some voodoo but you can make that run nice and quiet and have it run hotter to

I've had the AT max a year now and only used it about 7-8 times as the chatter is insane even with full iron discrim and foil rings a high pitch tone... I. Getting better with it no doubt and use to the different settings but tbh I have a trusty old garret 250 and it's a demon it'll find anything in the ground up to 7 inches and even larger objects up to 10-11 inches and for less than a quarter of the price of the AT Max it's worth every penny and thought the AT max should be no more than double the price even with it's underwater capability and let's face it not many of us are willing to risk using something this expensive in case you go over the 10 ft depth range and damaging it. Optermistic I'll get better in time with it but tbh the headphones make me to hot and agitated and the extra weight on this machine from my last absolutely destroys my arm swinging it around for more than 10 mins at a time.... where as the other machine I could do half hour stints no problem

I notice you didn't lower threshold , and if you increase the iron discrimination, I bet it works better, I can get my at pro to work great at the beach, just not well in the water, but it does pick up signals despite the chatter

Robert you have to ground balance the AT pro and probably the Max In wet or water I ground balance then subtact 3 like if it is 16 I set it at 13 normal dry it runs at around 90 so away ground balance or change frequency or sensitivity watch the cd

All those low tones use up your battery life, Not my choice of salt water detector, Garret have once agin come close but not cracked ot as yet . I sold my AT pro it was not good on the beach in salt water to chatery. I use a sea hunter on the beach, the new Nox 800 is the beach detector standard, Garret need to get there quickerly or loose sales.

In Connecticut you have to turn in anything like jewlery you find on beaches which is why I won't do it. I'm not investing time and money to give back gold rings and bracelets. You must have different laws in your state. If there's identification or some way of me finding out who the owner is for a phone is different. That I have no problem returning. Wallets the same I'd love to return them but jewelry should be finders keepers

any detector can be made to be somewhat useable on a beach if you run low settings,the max was touted to be a better beach machine than actually what was delivered, thats false advertising! sure you can tame it by turning sensitivity down..works on ace 250's and bounty hunters too, lol..

Robert you need to alway need to ground balance the the AT Pro & probably the Max my Pro in dry is around 90 in wet around 20 and what I do in wet or water is ground balance & subtact 3 if 16 set it @13 lower sensitivity and or frequency that how I set my AT Pro I don't know if the Max work the same way watch the CD or you tube GL&HH you probably know all this

Next time you get a new piece of equipment, you might want to read the manual and learn how to use it before bad mouthing it because you don't know how to use it. Seems like everyone else that has tried the AT Max has liked the way it worked, even in Black Sand. Hopefully you will do another video after you have used it for awhile. Keep up the videos!

Hate to burst your bubble but I used it and Ground Balanced it in the wet sand and it did the same thing... I had to run it on 2 bars sensitivity. I even tried to manually adjust ground balance in many different ranges and it still falsed like crazy.

@@OldSkoolF If you set it up as you normally would then drop it 3 bars down from full sensitivity then do your ground balance. After it balances go in manually and drop that number down 2 to 3 numbers. Then go to threshold and drop it down to -1. Then if need be you can run through F1 to F4 to find the stable setting. Also in pinpoint it won't false but it will pinpoint over a target. I have one and in a very salty bay with bad iron trash issues from so many small iron pieces of brocken crab traps it is chatty but it will run. Also if you hunt in the iron disc mode where it beeps on everything the targets are clearly distinguishable and repeatable. But it isn't going to be a quiet hunt. I'm sorry I didn't get the Legend for less money and multiple frequencies it rivals the Nox or the Deus. But - on threshold and tune it down under the detectors ground numbers and she'll hit targets. Also very important you hunt in either wet sand or stay totally under water you can not allow waves to wash over it. It's falsing on the positive salt signal more then the negative black sand. He ran threshold up it needs to go back down to the negative. My chatted but I pulled targets. He also didn't try to shift the frequency and find which one runs smoother The Excalibre is $1,000 more so you would expect it to handle things better.

@@OldSkoolF There a guy his name is Carter he makes detecting videos testing detectors and underwater dives. He's a 40 year skilled detectorist. He puts videos out under the name Detector Comparison you should check him out pretty much any detector put 5hete he does a live test on it and goes over the settings. If you want to see something surprising check out his video called side by side test Deus 2 vs Manticore. He's put out 4 test side by side in a real park I believe they are up in northern NY in a 100 year old park that's been hunted to death. In the 3rd video he has someone with the Nox 800 also. As one gets a deep hit they check each other's signal. I shouldn't give it away but the Deus hit every target the Manticore hit but the Manticore missed some deep targets the Deus hit. One was a small gold target I forget what it was but it was like 12 inches down there. He was pulling silver dimes out all over 10+ inches. The Manticore did OK although it didn't match all the Deus 2 deep keeper targets. Then the Deus didn't beep over the Manticore's deep targets that when dug was big iron and he even said the Deus is calling it iron. In the 3rd video with the Nox it wasn't as deep as either but on the many iron targets the Manticore called a dime that the Deus called trash the Nox also called it trash. It's some of the best live untampered tests you can see done by somebody who knows how to set a detector. In fact watch him set up the AT Maxx to hunt a rough salt beach up in Massachusetts where he does many hunts and he tests most of the detectors. The Legend performed outstanding and runs very stable for how inexpensive it is. In one of his hunts with the Legend he hit a tiny 18k gold elephant charm that's no bigger then 1/4". He even got the single frequency Simplex to run in the salt black sand. He shows the settings on how he adjusts the detectors to get them to run. That's how I got the AT Maxx to calm down. Truthfully I'm in a toss up between buying the Deus 2 or the Legend. I saw him get elbow deep to pull out coins with that Deus 2 but then I saw live videos of a guy in the UK pull a ring off a wet beach at 16 inches after he wiped the ring he looks down and says something like that was bloody right deep look at that as he's looking at this huge hole lol. I think his videos are called South Beach Sussex or something he changed his name from part of a group and he's going it solo but he is killing it with the Legend so it's hard to justify spending twice the money on the Deus 2 with the Legend killing it with it's new updates. But if I were gonna go salt water hunt tomorrow I would take my Fisher CZ-21 and my pulse inductor in case the iron is low. They don't ID with a screen so I want one now that will but on a beach the pulse inductor will hit a damn BB over a foot easily the Maxx I doubt will do that. I'm not sure any of these VLF detectors can though. I'm gonna dig iron I know this but I'm OK with it because it does not miss anything including thin gold chains which all VLF's have problems with. So there's a lot of choices out there I have an arsenal already but you know when you see these new machines you always wonder if it's a step up and just my opinion after watching a lot of real life hunts and no air tests or iron on boards crap but actual targets in the ground the Legend and Deus 2 hard hard to look away from what they can do. I still have an old Whites DFX with the 950 concentric coil that out matched the CTX. Not on video I test hunted against it and pulled a seated dime he missed??? He pulled nothing behind the DFX and it's still my favorite detector but it's old I would think they got better so far only my pulse inductor has beat it. I have yet to pull a coin with the Maxx that I pounded with the DFX. But that doesn't mean there was there so I'm still giving the Maxx a chance while I finish it's learning curve being my ear is trained for concentric coils that outshoot the DD's. I even have a DD for the DFX but I love the 950 on it. Sorry about the long post I kind of got a little excited here being I just got some great permissions in Jersey where a lot of Rev War activity happened and I'm getting itchy to go kill it.
