Absolutely brilliant review 👍 probably the most thorough review I have seen awesome work mate. Want to upgrade from my gp pointer and been looking at the Nokta pointer since I have a simplex+ , I think you have just sealed the deal for me my friend. The Nokta pointer it is !

That was a great review. I appreciate the extent you went in comparing the two, and the differences in how they function. Its a real toss up as far as which one is better based on those differences. I guess it boils down to just picking one, they both work well.

Thanks for your review. I was a little surprised the distances that you were showing for the Garrett. I am use to getting greater depth with the Garrett so I tried my own test. First thing I wanted to do was compare a used battery with a new battery to see if a newer battery had any advantage over one that had been used a few times. One of the batteries that I used for the testing had about 3 hunts and at least 15 hours of usage on it. My first group of tests were conducted using the used batter and the readings on a quarter were 2" off the tip and 2 1/8" off the side. For the next test, I replaced the used battery with a brand new one and the reading were 2 5/8" off the tip and 2 5/8" off the side. The results showed me that a new battery had a slight advantage over a used battery. The next thing I noticed in your review, was that you said that you can block the speaker when holding the Garrett. Yes, that is very possible but if you put your thumb on the button while using the pointer, blocking the speaker is almost totally impossible. I myself like to keep my thumb on the button so that I can quickly detune the pointer without taking my eye off the spot where I detuned it previously. I find this very convenient because I will probably detune the pointer 3 to 6 times while I am trying to locate a pesky find that seems to be moving around. I do not think that detuning the Nokta is as easy as the Garrett, especially if you have a fairly deep hole. On the Nokta you would have to use both hands or either reposition the pointer in your hand to push the buttons, this means that you would probably move the pointer from the location where you are trying to detune from. If you held the Nokta in you had so that you access the buttons, it appears that it would be very awkward in trying to use it. Lastly, I cut 5 pieces of copper and tried to duplicate the sizes similar to what you used. I also made a 6th piece that was smaller than the smallest piece that you used. I was able to detect each piece without any problem and I got almost twice the depth if I use the side of the Garrett about a half inch up from the tip. I am not trying to be critical about your testing but I know that it appears that I am. I am just trying to let people know that I found a few things in your testing that need to be considered when they are comparing the two pointers. I really think that you did a great job with your video and I can see that you tried to cover every possible scenario. I also know that you put a lot of effort into making this video, so thank you again and I did really enjoy watching your video.

i have the nokta pointer as well and i had that falsing and the lack of proximity alarm too. i was told to stop that problem all you have to do is ground balance it so i tried it and by putting the tip on the groundvthen turning it on it worked fine and man can it pick up distance by doing so. i dont like the nokta holster because it pushes the pointer out so i use my garrett holster for it. thanks for the video, was thorough.

I love my Nokta Pointer. The first time out I took it to a couple hot springs and just explored while I enjoyed the water. I did get some false signals one time when held in mid air on the maximum sensitivity setting. I adjusted it down two clicks and it worked fine. It didn't occur to me to ground balance it, that should prevent false signals in the future. I ended up finding five silver nuggets in two different Idaho hot springs! Just in the sand and gravel everyone sits in, when I pulled up one of the nuggets I found a white gold and diamond earring too small for my detector to notice. So that was a bit of luck! I also found the usual hot springs debris: coins, bottle caps, bobby pins, sunglasses, and (it was Idaho) bullet casings.

I have two garrets, they are great. But if I did a plug and I got my pinpointer in the hole, I could have to hand dig more because the garret makes it sound as if it’s right there, but in reality it can be another two inches away. Pain in the butt when digging in rocky, hard clay. I just ordered the Nokta and I think I’ll like it for that reason. I can just go back to the shovel, go a little deeper then pinpoint. Great reviews. The other downside to the garret is the holster sits up high on the belt, I don’t like that. Noktas looks better for my needs.

Thank you for a detailed review. I have Whites TRX. That one also falses from time to time on max sensitivity(4), but I've gotten used to it. It goes really deep and you can ground balance it by starting it with the tip on the ground. And what I really like about it is that only the tip detects, not the sides. It just works better for my stile of digging I guess. I think the next one's gonna be a Nokta Pointer, but I might wait till March next year to see if anything new comes out. Also, hello from Romania :)

Great video! Thanks so much. If you got a different holster for the Garrett ATP, one without any metal on it, that might solve the problem (so you could leave it on while hunting). Army / Navy surplus store may have a solution. Or you could sew one yourself if you were so inclined.

It depends what you are hunting. In a gold field the Nokta can be more responsive. "Read" 0.4 g gold dust in a small flask, at about 1 cm, when the Garret did not even awake up touching the flask. For me, the Garret makes things easier for recovery, due to is progressive approach signal, but I found myself going again ( with the Nokta) by some rock crevices I dough before, to see if I ad missed something, and I did! I have a Garret for a few years, and I learn to love`t, so this recently obtained Nokta, feels a bit unnatural... Perhaps, if I was starting on m. detection, that will not be a issue, but I steel prefer the Garret.

Hi the mining monkey, no it is not true. The pin pointer according to the manual saves all the settings when turned off. You probably saw the same review from a lady that brought the nokta for her elderly father as I did. She either has a faulty pin pointer or doesn’t have a clue.

The TRX blows the doors off both these pinpointers! But, between the AT and the Nokta, I would have to go with the AT for ergonomics and durability. The Nokta's waterproof rating is inferior to the AT, and the TRX for that matter.
@scannerguy1968
@scannerguy1968 9 жыл бұрын
+Tsunami Scott Haven't had the opportunity to use the TRX yet. Experience is Whites makes great products so it probably is. I've ran both the AT and the Nokta. Stuck with the Nokta due to 1 button to turn sens up and 1 button to turn it down on the fly as you go. Deeper, Better sensitivity to small items. Short of running it over it hasn't let me down yet.
@sweetbeep
@sweetbeep 8 жыл бұрын
+scannerguy1968 ...but the nokta is only more sensitive than the garrett on the very end of the pinpointer so with the garrett all you have to do is put the pointer on its side or corner, right?
@TesterBoy
@TesterBoy 5 жыл бұрын
Tsunami Scott I completely agree. I did a lot of testing with small gold nuggets here in Northern California. The Garrett was not as sensitive AT THE ACTUAL POINT as the Whites TRX. The Garrett shines when circling around the sides of a hole because it’s sensitivity extends along the sides. However, at the tip it is not as sensitive at depth. Other videos will confirms this.

Well, the Garrett would want to be rugged. The older model appeared to be made by 'wet-backs' getting paid $4 and hour. In my opinion, it was a poor designed and poorly built device. I was worth $20 in my opinion. It was just paltry! As long as my arse points to the ground; I'll never buy anything that has the Garrett logo on it.
