What the heck is it about Gary Clark Jr? His music is so simple and so ridiculously interesting. His vocal and lead/rhythm phrasing, theme and variation, are simply perfect. God must love the blues cuz He sent us Gary Clark Jr.

And I do respect what rappers are putting out there. They are speaking from their experience which many times has been terribly difficult. In fact the way they use their experiences to make music and even develop and extend music is quite astounding. It's evidence of beauty and power in them that has always been in them, the divine spark, the image of God. If I could offer them one thing I would tell them that they are loved and cherished by God who demonstrated His love by sending His Son Jesus. They are beautiful, perfect, and forgiven just like all of us because of Him. That one idea gives hope that can transform the body, mind, and spirit.

he surely listened to Albert collins and Jimi Hendrix and probably Stevie Ray Vaughn and a hundred others Buddy Guy et al but mostly those 2 first I mentioned hear in the guitar... Vocals there's some other influences. that black guy who blew up big from the 90's who played ver thin sounding fender ?? what was his name? Lots of poppy crossover songs from him too. . that's what I hear, and a natural talent that you can't buy or even acquire by practice. You either got it or you don't.

Gary has the most hair rousingly authentic guitar sound to come along since Hendrix. With that wailing, liquid voice, this young man is the complete electric blues package.
