The licence fee accounts for 70 percent of their annual funding, It's highly unlikely they will claw back those billions through their world wide commercial sales despite them doing well. And I can't see the government agreeing to end public finding and make their always steady and reliable BB baby go into the wild hunting for other funding methods lol. If the people win getting the licence scrapped, The government will just put another tax plan in motion.. Probably something we can't get out of this time.. Like adding it to energy or broadband bills.

Not contributing to Lineker’s or other BBC ‘stars’ huge salaries is part of the reason I stopped paying for a TV license. I read that the BBC’s generous ‘gold plated’ final salary pension scheme has a black hole of almost £1.7 billion… so who do you think will have to fill that… yep, the hapless license fee payer natch! I worked for an independent TV news broadcaster over many years, and they had to close their final salary pension scheme in 2010 as it had become unsustainable. Almost all private sector companies with these pension schemes have had to close them because of the colossal future cost liabilities, changing to money purchase schemes instead… not the BBC though!

when I found out how much he was being paid to sprout crap about football ( sorry guys & gals I'm not a fan) that did it for me and I canceled my TV license, that was over 7 years ago. I now have a 16-speaker surround sound system with a 120" screen home cinema, all paid for with the money I saved from not paying the BBC TV TAX. Thank you very much Gary.

I stopped watching TV four years ago when I cancelled my license, I Sky box recorded MOTD every week and watched it Sunday morning, I fast forwarded through him and the analysts and just watched the highlights, now I just watch the highlights on KZbin, much better.

Look at Nick Knows he was a much loved hard working BBC main TV Host whom did tons of DIY help shows and he went and did a small TV add, The BBC then told him he can't do one using his BBC known skills so he was Sacked. The BBC did , under the Royal Charter the BBC must have a commercial arm (Section 23 ), it always has had ,BBC Studios being the current one , The BBC are the only shareholders and all the profits go to the BBC , Check out the charter which explains why , is in the public domain and go to companies house website , search BBC studios , all details and accounts are available,

Question: (no, I haven’t thought it through, but I feel it has a degree of merit)Why not simply scrap the licence fee, removing thereby, any liability from viewers to pay to watch live TV, be it the BBC or any other broadcaster of live coverage, and simply charge other broadcasters a levy for using any BBC material? That way, the BBC still gets funding and BBC aficionados (if any) can watch BBC, but when they watch any other subscription service, they can not only enjoy that broadcaster’s material, but a good deal of the BBC’s as well, excepting, of course, live news bulletins from the BBC and other live broadcasts as seen fit by the BBC. I’m sure there’s a workable “formula” in there somewhere. What needs to be removed is not necessarily and exclusively, funding for the BBC, but the legal obligation to have a licence to watch (aka receive) ANY live broadcast from whomsoever and where from ever it is being transmitted.

The BBC are wasteful, and Lineker's salary proves how out of touch with reality the BBC are. His views will polarise people, not something you need in a state broadcaster as people will inevitably vote with their feet. I have finished with the licence fee and I think millions of others will also do so. A state broadcaster must remain neutral, and when clowns like him begin to spout their own views there is going to be a massive problem for the BBC. The end is close for the BBC gravy train, it is now a shadow of its former self, and is gradually losing the respect of so many of the population.
