Gary Gulman is to comedy what someone like Federer is to tennis, Zidane to football (soccer), Prost to racing.... It's not about being over the top, impactful or defying taboos, it's about the craft. His material is as smart, insightful and elegant as it can be when it comes to comedy. I think he deserves more recognition, but I'm glad to see he's feeling good about his career and life

Gary Gulman is the absolute best. I love his joke writing, how he is in interviews, and any other form I've seen him. As a stand-up connoisseur for probably 30 years, he's in my Top 3 all-time. (If you're a comedian friend reading this, don't worry, you're definitely also in the Top 3. And Mike! You're of course the other one! There's the 3. Nobody upset at all.)

Two of my favorite comedians! I highly recommend Gary's book Misfit: Growing Up Awkward in the '80s. I loved it! It was funny and heartbreaking and so relatable. I grew up in the '80s in a town a couple over from his hometown (with childhood anxiety and depression issues) and it really resonated with me. It's important to understand we're not alone! Even when we think we are. Thank you Gary and Mike for always making me laugh.

What a joy to have these two people talking together! Big fan of Mike's (duh). I've liked Gary Gulman since first discovering him on Last Comic Standing. REALLY started appreciating him once I watched the Great Depresh and read Misfit.

I’ve never met Mike in person, but meeting Gary was a dream come true. Meeting someone you admire shouldn’t be about what more they can give you, just the joy of admiration and getting the opportunity to tell them thank you for the gift of their comedy. Btw, Gary is the kindest and most genuine sweetheart of a man in person. Thank you both for your work which I believe is grounded in your realness and willingness to be yourselves.

As soon as Mike suggested that Boston documentary I went and watched it and then returned to hear them elaborate on the people who were on the scene at the time. Would recommend.

WOW! I listen to ALL of your broadcasts, Mike, and this weeks “ working it out for a cause” was transformative for me. During this past presidential campaign,I heard someone say, “If you want to “help”, Instead of giving money to candidates who do NOT need your money, give it instead to organizations like your local food bank that is operated by volunteers who leverage money by working with local grocery stores getting food at or below cost and actually feeding people. They went on to describe the difference in various organizations, like we are all AWARE of cancer, so maybe consider donating money to the local groups that drive patients to chemotherapy. It’s been milking around in my head how Taylor Swift quietly gave huge amounts of money to every food bank in every city where she performed. Putting the money where it can do the MOST of what you want it to accomplish, whether it is to feed people, support women, save children, improve (fill in the blank).

17:34 I think more often than not fans are wildly nervous to talk to someone who is so obviously talented. I remember telling a musician I loved the whole reason I left a concert early, and that word salad haunts me to this day.

I think a lot about what Gary is saying about artists struggling with “is it too easy to be good”. I remember seeing a documentary on Dark Side of the Moon and Rodger Waters was talking about how how the lyrics to “Breathe” are so simple that most people would throw them in the trash, but it just works and ends up being brilliant. I really think being a master at something means being confident enough to he simple.

Big fan of both Mike and Gary. Always here for a convo between them, and love when they work out bits. Though I do want to say that comparing Gary’s state abbreviations bit to Hasan Minhaj’s lies about specific real people who exist is a bit ridiculous. Gary’s is outrageous and pure comedy and Minhaj has repeatedly exaggerated about real people in serious moments of his standup to the point that it’s really just a lie. Obviously, all premises don’t have to be true in comedy (in fact, they rarely are). However, when it’s played as a dramatic part of a show and you’re making real people sound in a way that is not fair or honest, I think that’s worthy of criticism.

Went to one of Gary's shows last week and it was the most tedious performance I've sat through. An hour 45 is too long, especially for a one man show.

Interesting. Gary is one of my top 5 favorite comics. My wife and I saw him perform at a venue in Tarrytown, NY around a year or so ago and while he was funny, he also came off as angry with rants on his disdain for Seinfeld and Shark Tank. We left wondering if he was okay and whether he was experiencing a bout of depression.
