Hannah - the joke works! Just as you delivered it. No need to narrate or explain it. The mix of reactions from the audience is likely because it is funny and then immediately challenging/thought-provoking.

I love letters from love. Good question, Mike, who did it beat and how could they have improved? But they’re the wrong questions. They’re totally understandable questions from a comic, but they’re ego driven. And the letters are ego-less A better way to put it, is that it’s binary. The good ones are the ones where the person fell away and love came through unveiled And to describe the other side of that spectrum, when they’re bad (and it’s not like one is bad and one is good) it’s because you wrote too long. Liz says put a 5 minute limit so the ego doesn’t come in (when you write too long) DISCLAIMER: I should qualify my statement above by saying when I wrote “ego” I really meant “personality”. I meant it neutrally

So cool ! I love your podcast and I love her, read all her books. Love her novels, loved the books she wrote before Eat Pray Love, her creativity essay was so delightful to read… Excited about this collaboration. I’m a self-love coach, I have spiritual experiences on a daily basis and tons of practices in my toolbox and yet I was blown away by her Letters from love daily practice, and so moved by her art when she read it. The presence of a higher energy was palpable. I love artists, I love beauty.

I found a copy of “Eat, Pray, Love” in Jamaica and read it in a day or two. I never understood the hate for it. I thought it was great. I re-read huge chunks of it recently. This is the first time I’ve ever heard Liz speak. Very interesting. Good talk, Mike.

It's so refreshing when an author, especially one who wasn't prepared for the internet, weathers the toxicity that comes with modern high-end notoriety with such even temper. She has a rare constitution. The goal is for a book like Eat Prey Love to reach 100% of its target audience. But this kind of stratospheric popularity shoves the material into literally everyone's face, no matter how inappropriate the match. So People automatically infer that, if it's in their face, it must be for them. And since it isn't, they assume it's just a bad book, and everyone who likes it is stupid. The greatest book about bird watching in history will be boring to someone who has no interest in birds. And if the whole world is shouting about how great this birdwatching book is, and everyone should read it, a lot of non-birders are going to wonder what the hell people are so excited about. That's apart from the tendency of certain people who automatically assume that if anything isn't made specifically for them and their tastes, it has no worth at all. But really, it's their opinion that's worthless.

God I love listening to Hannah speak. I've really been putting off this podcast for so long as the both of you are maybe the two comedians I most respect. You're not just funny you both have an incredible ability to take difficult topics and the pain you've suffered and tell it in a way that instead of bitter is awe-filled, joyful, and terribly human. There's an appreciation for life in the way you both tackle your hardships. And it's what we walk away with as well. I am so very entertained and in awe your abilities as an artist 🎶 and a fan. 🎉🎉🎉
