I saw Slayer live back in the late 80s and early 90s a few times and got to check out their gear. Kerry King had some JCM 800s and his amps sounded old school crunchy by today’s standards.

Funny that when the Silver Jubilee reissue came out everyone told me it couldn't play thrash. I didn't listen and got one anyway. Now Gary Holt uses one and everyone wants them now.

@@Kevin.Kelly. You have to boost them for heavy rhythm and leads. Gary has three different gain pedals on his board. Jubilees take multiple boosts very well.

@@Kevin.Kelly. If I remember right he said in his 2015 rig rundown that his Maxon ST Pro+ is on all the time. Then he had a regular Maxon OD9 as a solo boost.

That prototype pedal became the GH Paranormal OD pedal from KHDK. I was lucky enough to buy one before they sold out. Best $250 I ever spent! It's an OD w/parametric mids makes your amp sound ever more brutal. I use a Peavey XXX.
