I can't in all honestly say that Stein is qualified to be president or that she even behaves as a candidate for that office should, but I'm tempted to vote for her just to help get the Greens a higher share of the popular vote and gain legitimacy. On the other hand, don't you think voting for a bad candidate in a good party sends the wrong message to the party about what candidates they should be nominating? Does voting for Johnson help the Libertarian party, or does it just reaffirm that Johnson is the guy they should be running? I kinda think that third parties need to nominate the right people before we should help them get those people onto the stage. That goes for both Johnson and Stein.

@izzyxyoung8 жыл бұрын
Keith Gee you missed it. Gary was basically saying that just because the majority of people criticizes something it doesn't mean that what you're doing is wrong. This is a fallacious argument called appeal to authority. That is why Gary Johnson brought up the legalization of weed because most people said it was bad, but it turned out really well in NM and other states.
@paconoop34988 жыл бұрын
Hey man, legal weed and legal prostitutes are a great platform for the voters who are lonely and are too afraid to meet new people!
Got to agree with Gary here. He's ahead of the curve. A fair-tax provision providing every family to live above the poverty level - while having an incentive to work, will be a tremendous boost to the nation. Like with mj legalization, Johnson was thinking ahead, and that's what we need in politics. I often cite Eugene Debs, who got only 6% of the vote in 1912, but set the stage for the future of the United States. J/W will do the same. Gary Johnson is a good man, a great inspiration in fact, who was thrown under the bus in this hideous 2016 election cycle by MSM. Shame on America, they have not recognized their folly. I will thank Gary every day for making me realize that free thinking & common sense trumps over whatever "the system" is promoting to us...
@JoeFromPho8 жыл бұрын
he's mentioning weed because there is a parallel to how people were reacting to his views on weed and how people are reacting to his tax policy. people thought he was crazy for supporting weed, now it's getting legalized in a handful of states. he's saying that people may think he's crazy for his tax policies now, but may embrace it later
@izzyxyoung8 жыл бұрын
JoeFromPho exactly. Too many sheep can't realize this =__=
@tylerfarmer15928 жыл бұрын
Mind telling the sheep how on Earth we fund government programs, the military, roads, etc. when we eliminate income tax? The comparison is apples to oranges and that is why it is viewed as him dodging the question. Marijuana legalization was not a concern over economics, it was largely a concern of ethics. There are many economic benefits that come from legalization such as eliminating the drug dealers, but I think many people would argue that there are plenty of other drugs which cause much more crime than marijuana. Now to come back to the tax plan, if I still have your attention (Johnson would probably have tuned out by now). There is not much room here for ethics in tax policy, things must be paid for that's just how it works. Where there is room for ethics in taxes is in their transparency in what they go toward. If that were his argument, maybe I would consider what he is saying. But no, his solution is just like every other crackpot libertarian and that is to eliminate taxes so you can go live on your isolated farm. Sorry kids, that is not where 21st century western civilization is at the moment. Maybe in the future, when our society crumbles you can start anew with your amazing government. And then a band of rabid warlords can round you all up into slavery because you dumbasses haven't funded a military.
@scottstewart87378 жыл бұрын
Tyler Farmer He didn't say eliminate taxes. His point is to simplify the easiest way, consumption tax, thus helping to eliminate lobbyists tax laws. The only reason most credits and deductions are there is because an institution paid politicians off to pass a law. I worked at the IRS and the only reason tens of thousands of people work there and waste tax dollars is because the laws are ridiculously complex. Would it not be better to take money out of politics in every way possible so the rich and powerful don't get more so? People that call Libertarians crackpots or crazy don't understand economics very well.
@tylerfarmer15928 жыл бұрын
I admit, I do not study economics. I would argue though, that it is not necessary to when it comes to taxation. If anything, a law degree and a background in philosophy and human psychology would probably be the most useful! As you say one of the greatest hindrances of taxation is loopholes and corruption. To your point though, a consumption tax does make logical sense, except for the fact that there are many things which you do not "consume" but which you partake (such as all public grounds and public areas). We need taxes to fund these things, and eliminating income taxes would be the surest way to destroy these things. The wealthy largely keep these institutions afloat via their income taxes. To get rid of that would be ridiculous, and that is what my post was about. Getting rid of the IRS is actually something I never even brought up, because I actually agree with him there. I think both conservatives and libertarians would agree on that. It is a big building that provides people with jobs. Their job being making a process needlessly complex so corporations can dodge taxes and in doing so, giving a bunch of pencil pushers jobs.
@JulyTiger19868 жыл бұрын
Tyler Farmer I think one part that is missed about what he said is, "if he could wave a magic wand" He's talking about an ideal, not a reality. He knows he can't swing that and I think he's smart enough to realise that he may never be able to. People like to rain on his parade about the ideal Libertarian tax plan. They wouldn't lower taxes if it meant a deficit and they wouldn't create unequal opportunity. One reason I think Johnson Presidency would go well is because I could see the congress switching progressive. If that were to happen it would keep him in check.
@markbtw79878 жыл бұрын
I don't see anything wrong with what he said at all. He didn't present himself very well in this instance, but his sentiment was logical. Saying that world economist disagree with him isn't a counterargument on his tax policy, so clearly all the interviewer wanted to do _was_ argue, in a sense at least. He wasn't providing an actual reason why his tax policy was bad, just regurgitating the establishment's opinion about it. This likely resonated with the mountains of propaganda speech he had to deal with regarding marijuana legalization, and he got a bit hotheaded. Big deal, ideas are more important than presentation in my opinion, and I think this man as some very logical ideas.

***** How the hell is it done on a state level? "School districts and independent schools that choose to take part in the lunch program get cash subsidies and USDA foods from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for each meal they serve. In return, they must serve lunches that meet Federal requirements, and they must offer free or reduced price lunches to eligible children." How is that not a federal government plan? If a family is only making 11,000 a year, then there are severe issues that lay on the individuals to solve. Not to mention you can still expect to be taxed $900+ a year. $900 can be spent wisely and efficiently to make a good meal for your kids. Or even say fuck it and just get them 3 hamburgers from McDonalds every day. Also, coming from a "privileged" family that made even less than $11,000 for many years of my childhood, I have no sympathy for parents who make so little and yet still have kids.

WhatAreYouBuyen I don't really think that was his point though. I think his argument was that he's not afraid of what other people with different political views think about his policies, and that it isn't going to stop him from arguing what he thinks is right. He brought weed as a way to show that despite how unpopular it makes him, he still fights for it because he believes that it is the right thing to do. Same with tax policies. Many people may disagree with him and put him down for it, but that doesn't mean he's going to change for them.

This guy straight up attacked him, this isn't an interview it was just a bashing fest. No Gary Johnson doesn't have the charisma to handle situations like this the best, but I think that's what makes him so much greater than the current candidates. They can't open their mouthes without telling lies and whatever sounds good at the moment to get themselves support. Johnson tells the truth and comes up with his best ideas behind the scenes rather than promising a bunch of impossible things, insulting people like a Trump, or smiling and waving over people's lives like a Clinton.

Just the fact that you cut off the interview right there, shows that you're neither being impartial, as news media should be, nor are you fairly portraying Johnson, or any candidate. No one is perfect. Not your candidate, not mine, not anyone's. Though if you're going to portray them in their worst, you should also portray them at their best, and also in their norm. You obviously manipulated this video to show only what you wanted, and cut in just such a place that most of your viewers are only going to share it as is and look no further. You know most ppl are like that, which means you did it on purpose. glad to have another crap media to add to my list of news sources that can't be trusted. You are a disgrace to true journalism, especially political journalism, which is supposed to be non partisan, unbiased, fair, and transparent -- none of the qualities I've seen from your media over the last year.

For crying our loud the interesting thing here is the presidential candidate, not the frigging journalist! Did any of his answers - provided in full - inspire you? did his performance impress you? @DippKlippGuy8 жыл бұрын
Well on the Aleppo case, which is relatively minor compared to the cons of both main candidates; not that it really matters as much for Johnson as he's a non-interventionist, the policy many Founding Fathers favored, Washington and Jefferson come to mind. So yeah, I'm for the candidate that is truly passionate about wanting to be a wedge in a fucked bi-system of two horrible candidates.
@Gurubu8 жыл бұрын
@Dipp Jill Stein seems a little more mentally sound if you're looking for a wedge in the political system. @sandsandwich51238 жыл бұрын
Regardless of whether they cut certain things to only show his worst, those were still simple questions that even I could've given much better answers to. But no one deserves unbiased coverage, if the candidate is decent they'd be able to handle loaded and biased questions just fine, and if they're good they'd give logical and exciting enough answers to get people on their side.

How embarrassing. The interviewer is calm and collected the entire time and Johnson just loses his shit when confronted with clear fallacies in his reasoning.
@YeeLeeHaw Жыл бұрын
Actually it's the interviewer that is making the logically fallacious argument (appeal to authority and popularity), Gary was just unfortunately not well versed in logical fallacies to detect and refute it on the spot. Also the reason no economist agrees with him (assuming the "journalist" speaks the truth) is because there's not a single country on earth that has a small enough government where they can only have one tax; the premise of the stance is therefore flawed. The main ethos with Libertarianism is that the government should be as small as possible and the people should be able to govern themselves as much as possible.
@somethingis91338 жыл бұрын
What does him supporting the legalization decades ago mean to your consumption tax question? Leaders back then called him insane for wanting to legalize marijuana. Just like leaders today are calling it insane to get rid of the income/corporate tax system and replace it with a flat predictable consumption tax. I don't think some of you are understanding what he meant with the marijuana legalization counterpoint at the end. He meant he supported that long before anyone thought that was remotely reasonable, just as he supports this tax policy with everyone telling him it's ridiculous. He means people's view on policies change over time, and he thinks this tax policy will be yet another example of that. I'm not someone who will be voting for Johnson, but I have to say I think the marijuana point somewhat saved his argument towards the end. It just seems like it's kind of going over people's heads.

Gary is obviously frustrated. He should've been allowed to debate. His mistakes, compared to the two major candidates are nothing. This man is honest and humble. You can't say that about Trump or Hilary. Gary also has a pretty impressive resume. No Republican or Democrat will ever bring us change. They put on a show, but behind the scenes it's an entirely different story. There's no doubt in my mind that if Johnson had been allowed to debate, he'd be over 30% in the national polls. The 15% rule shouldn't have had to apply to Johnson. He's on the ballad in all 50 states, that should've been enough to allow him in the debates. Gary asked in the video, "then why are you here?". I'll tell you why, they want to delegitimize the idea of a third party vote for this election. A vote for a Gary Johnson, is a vote for a trash can. I vote trash can. All that being said, if Gov.Jesse Ventura would have ran, he would've destroyed Trump and Hillary.

@ObserversEyes8 жыл бұрын
Vincent Von Dudler If it's true that Weld is a Republican similar to Romney, then they missed an ideal moment to run a serious challenge. Contemporary journalism: 1. Start about polls. Because these are sacred and prime. 2. Provide your questions in an ignorant, uninformed matter that also implicitly disrespects the interviewee from a journalism point of view, since you are unwilling to provide details or delve into the topics adequately yourself: "Tell me what you think about taxation. Because I know that's one of the policies of yours that has garnered the most attention. Could you just kinda summarize it for us in a nutshell?" [journalism like this provides ample opportunity for simple promotional, populistic answers, I know Johnson missed out on that, but that's besides the point] 3. Counter the argument or answer with generalizations and/or abstract accusations, firstly preventing an insightful answer towards the interviewee and secondly inflating the interview towards meaningless levels. "Most of the worlds' economies, most of the worlds' economists disagree with you" [not important what it means, why they disagree, if they have addressed the issue literally, etc. This pushes for yes or no, in favour or against, exactly what you might think you need but what you don't need]. Sure Johnson was not consistently too bright in his answers, yet I don't only want to criticize him.

"Sensible" economists (Keynesian's) think that printing money through cheap credit from the central banks and thus increasing inflation whilst greatly increasing government debt and spending would have caused the economy to recover from the great recession when precisely what caused it to happen was the cheap credit given out to buy housing. Housing may not be as inflated now but the stock market has not done as bad as the overall economy with it's anemic and even at times negative growth since 2009 which points to a likelihood of stock market crashing again, taking down many of the major banks who were bailed out that invest in stocks but just like the Great Recession in '09, most economists won't have seen it coming.
