Gary Johnson has helped millions learn what Allepo is by not knowing what it is.
@godofthunder90108 жыл бұрын
With the lead up offered by the MSNBC anchor, I think it was clear that he was setting up Johnson to look bad. If it were an interview with Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders, there would have been a lead up something like, "Aleppo Syria is currently the ground zero for civilian deaths in Syria's ongoing civil war. What would you do about the crisis in Aleppo?"

Johnson was drawing a blank on Aleppo. This is the worst thing they have against him? He knows about Syria. The other candidates are saying ridiculous things and Gary is not answering specific questions like who is your favorite current world leader. What if he doesn't believe in world leaders. Where is RON PAUL? Ron Paul would be slaying this year and should have the year he was attacked by the party he was running for. I wish Gary was a true Libertarian, but he is far better than the other two.

Jimmy Danly You mean their are many anarchocapitalists who hold many libertarian values. No, like I said libertarians believe in the constitution and small government.
@thejimmydanly8 жыл бұрын
Again, false. Libertarianism is the belief that initiation of aggression upon person or property is wrong, not a blind love for the constitution. I am a libertarian, and the constitution is a stain on the ideas of libertarian values. Even true minarchists should be ashamed of it. The articles of confederation with an explicitly Incorporated bill of rights and a stated declaration of purpose being private property arbitration would possibly be a government I would be content with. I'll admit that strict constructionism (along with, of course, the addition of the incorporation doctrine) would be a nice place to start, but it still does not go far enough.

you gotta build from the ground up. When the libertarian or green parties start clocking a significant percentage of voter registrations and get enough members into congress to act as an independent block of influence, they'll start getting more coverage resources devoted to them. Unfortunately you don't get equal air time just for showing up, the candidate and their party have to play the political game on a comparable level if they want to be covered like the DNC or GOP it's like someone walking into a Casino with $1000 and demanding to be treated like a high roller. sure your money isn't inconsequential, but you're just not playing with enough capital (ie votes/elected officials) to command equal treatment.

Bernie Sanders was at less than 3% last year. An arrest warrant was issued for her because she joined protesters against the Dakota Access Pipeline. That's something to be proud of, not mocked. When people get attacked by dogs and issued arrest warrants for standing together to protect native people's environment and sacred burial sites against oil companies, but other people get off scot-free for war crimes and illegal acts like Clinton with Honduras or her email scandal, something is wrong.

The Libertarian Party is cringeworthy. No real solutions to the serious problems we face today - it's just a clown show.
@Lidorzaruk8 жыл бұрын
This is the only party promoting true capitalism and classic liberalism, other parties are all on the spectrum of Keynesian/crony-capitalism and sadly even socialism. They say 99% and don't even understand that this is exactly what caused it to happen and will keep it going. Before you go and ask for free medicare, free education and bigger wale fare payments, you need to create enough money. A crony-capitalist is mistaken thinking that baling out big banks and big companies with tax payer's money will help, a socialist truly don't even have a clue how to create money but only how to spend it (even when the country don't have enough because "it's a right"). All the Scandinavian countries and others were and still are much more capitalists before they added the "free stuff" and became the common socialist's first example. A libertarian today is the only person standing for your right to live in a free country in a free market, without having your taxes spent on bullshit and create your ability individually to have good walfare, medicare and education. Even if you then back-track into forcing every one to sponsor it by taxes to those who can't effort it themselves (instead of donating voluntarily via private companies), you will at least have the base to pay for it. They learned it in Europe, it's time for the US to not deteriorate to socialism but to grow into being a truly capitalistic country (not a "crony" one like today). You actually broke away from Britain 250 years ago for the purpose of getting a freer market, now on the the Fraser institute freedom report of 2016 the US is on 17th place while Britain is 10th. Now... THAT'S cringeworthy.
@AngryKittens8 жыл бұрын
Lidorzaruk, except the US "libertarians" today seem more concerned about dropping taxes for big companies as well as abolishing environmental and worker regulations (which incidentally, can also be accomplished if they ensure that most federal laws don't apply at state level). Doesn't sound like fighting for my rights to me. Sounds more like a more heavily bought version of the Republicans. I'm not exactly thirsting for the freedom to strip mine a national park, the freedom to let my bosses buy another yacht, or the freedom to have toxic waste dumped on our rivers again. And I'm not even mentioning the conspiracy theorists and the edgy new alt right who also flock to their banners, because less government means less lizards from outer space who teach evolution in public schools, and less regulations means less laws to break when they beat up a minority.

Livid Imp She's not anti-Vaccine. The statement in question is one where she said she's opposed to drug companies having influence on the FDA when it comes to regulation and testing of the drugs. She wants a third party that doesn't take drug company money, and is therefore impartial, to do the tests, and stated she was willing to reduce the rate of vaccination if necessary to achieve that result. As for GMO's I'd mostly agree with you that they're safe and her position there is wrong. I can understand skepticism of GMOs, especially GMO's meant to be pesticide resistant, Monsanto is the largest seed company in the world, owns 86% of all GMO seeds sown, and also is conveniently the parent company of Roundup, who just so happens to be a pesticide producer. I'd also agree with skeptics that while there are no immediately known health concerns for human consumption, we don't know the long term impact of these crops on the environment, which is a valid concern. Though I don't entire agree with her on GMOs, she's still a better candidate. I personally view climate change as the most important issue humanity as a whole currently faces, and her view on that is certainly superior to Trump, who proposes changes to make it worse, and Clinton, while having a decent plan, doesn't really seem that interested in the issue, since she hasn't seriously talked about it since her election pivot (which combined with her corporate interests, leaves a reasonable question on how genuine those proposals were). So if I have to choose between a candidate who is taking the most important issue we face seriously, or a candidate that might be taking is seriously, why would I risk our future on a maybe? Just this month we actually have reached the unfortunate milestone of 400ppm for Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere for at least the remainder of our lifetimes, if not permanently according to scientists. The 'safe' level of CO2 in the atmosphere is at most, 350ppm. The higher we get above that, the higher temperatures will climb, the higher sea levels will rise, ocean acidification will get worse, and so will violent storms like hurricanes and tornadoes.

This was really mean. He's just a regular guy, not a career politician, and he obviously has the same knowledge and ideals that an average person would have, *especially* considering that the libertarian viewpoint about the Syrian refugee crisis would be "well, it's not our problem, so I won't keep up with it". He was obviously anxious in several of those situations, and that only makes Johnson all the more real. Why should we be concerned with the affairs of other nations unless they present a real threat to our continued way of life? Yes, we do need to keep an eye on them to make sure they aren't going to launch a war or destroy the global economy, but the Syrian refugee crisis is not Johnson's problem, and it's not our problem. Leave the guy alone. This whole skit was hurtful and although I'm a fan of Colbert, I was really disappointed by this episode's personal attacks, considering his normally witty style of intellectual humor.

People are salty about this segment but Stephen wouldn't be able to talk about this crazy shit if Johnson hadn't done it. Getting mad at this bit is like saying it's the reporters' fault for covering Trump's sexist/racist statements and scandals, or that it's the investigators' fault for covering Hillary's scandals, instead of actually holding the candidates responsible for their actions. They wouldn't be taking a hit from Colbert if they hadn't actually done it; Johnson's no different.

He actually has a few questionable negatives on his back, that you could easily look up. If your liberal leaning: His stance on minimum wage is pretty ignorant. Saying anyone that shows up to work in clean clothes isn't working minimum wage. Saying minimum wage is not an issue. Which thousands of American citizens are proof of how wrong that is. He supports the TPP. And in his support, he's admitted he doesn't fully understand it, but supports it anyway. He supports fracking. He sees no problem with money being a big factor in politics. Although he recently changed his mind, he was once under the impression that vaccines were not something a society needed as mandatory to keep disease from spreading. And if your conservative leaning, he's basically against majority of their stances on human rights, drugs and immigration. Some general weird ones: He said he'd ban the burqa in the US, because it's oppressive to women. Which is hypocritical simply for the fact that your forcing someone to wearing/not wearing something without their consent. So it's a roundabout oppressive notion. He has a questionable debt issue. When he became governor of New Mexico, he inherited 1.4 billion in debt. When he left office, that number to 4.3billion.

@coryhill85238 жыл бұрын
To comment on terrible decisions you're in the Army you have already made a terrible decision make the best of it. Now to Gary Johnson he advocated for treating Ebola patients with pot. At the height of the Abola outbreak when doctors and nurses were dying trying to help those people he was going on about pot. I'm sure there are legitimate uses for marijuana but treating terminally ill patients with hemorrhagic fever isn't one of them. It's pseudoscience like that that disqualifies him from being taken seriously.

And according to whom exactly was my decision of joining the military a terrible decision? I willingly and wholeheartedly joined the military and have yet to regret it. @MagentaSpikesImprov8 жыл бұрын
Sure if you simplify everything down to one adjective. But it's obviously more complicated. Trump's campaign was literally in the Entertainment section of newspapers while the other candidates were in the Politics section. There are a shitload of us who have just had to accept that he is, inexplicably, the Republican nominee. People are much more than just a simple adjective as we have seen throughout this election. There are many, many continuous rumors and lies that people spread and believe. Trump is much more dangerous than just plain stupid and egotistical and aggressive and racist and sexist and all the 100 ways you can describe him, truthfully. He has proven to get to people somehow through manipulating their current vulnerabilities and psychological weaknesses. This has been studied by at least hundreds of psychologists, educators and other professionals who study human behavior. There are pure psychological reasons all of these people have fallen prey to such an inappropriate rhetoric. They are making decisions based on emotions, like frustration and anger, which Trump stirs up on purpose, and he is promising things that will never happen or cannot happen the way he says they will. Based on every single thing uttered from both candidates since the beginning of their campaigns, Trump has lied about 50% of the time, compared to Clinton's approximate 10%. People must learn to do proper research and check every fact by using solid sources such as Politifact, which gave us those determinations of honesty. There are so many lies swirling around Clinton that they just escalate and escalate into ridiculous stories. She is not a saint. But she has not shown a fraction of the amount of deceit and illegal business such as Trump has during his working life. There is no doubt of the descriminations existing in Trump's mentality and his actions, including the immigrants who were fucked over, who built the Trump Tower. He has a tendency to try to cheat people out of money and dignity because he thinks he can, and he has said that in more ways than 10. I cannot in good conscience vote for someone who treats humans so badly, who has consistently committed and paid his way out of so many lawsuits, who thinks he can get away with fooling all these people by telling them whatever he feels like telling them to persuade them. So Trump wants to build a ridiculous wall. It will cost more than $25 billion!, over twice the highest estimation that he touts to the public. Trump screams about how Latino immigrants are horrible for this economy.. when in reality, Latinos make up about 17% of our population, and they pump in about $2.3 TRILLION into the economy every year. They represent 15% of the U.S. workforce. They provide vital growth in our economy. It is dangerous to not support them in entrepreneurial ways, as it will be a huge missed opportunity. Including in real estate, banking, homeownership, cars, etc.... this only scratches the surface, and it is a flat out complete lie that Drumpf is peddling as a major point in his platform.... There are so so so many incongruencies in this election, and we can all thank Trump for misleading and demeaning millions of people, while maintaining how horrible things are right now when they are not as bad as he promotes. And sure, Clinton isnt perfect, as she acts more wounded than optimistic for the Democratic population.. Most people are doing ok in this society, and most minority groups such as blacks, profession women, LGBT workers, are doing better than 50 years ago. Trump and Clinton have both stressed the obstacles we all face rather than opportunities, which is a mistake. Trump's pessimism works as a strategy, as demagogues do. Clinton has failed to show what this country is truly made of, and opened herself to the wrong audience... She represents the universal struggles, rather than any of the growing diversity and the entrepreneurial efforts of the people... therefore not really prevailing in terms of creating opportunities in the minds of those who need them.

How can anybody honestly think Clinton would be better than Stein or Johnson? Have you done any research? I know the media won't report on it unless it's Fox News (and I don't even like them)- but Hillary is atrocious when it comes to foreign policy. She armed and funded ISIS in Syria to overthrow Assad, that was a disaster. She's provoking a world war with Russia by instituting a no-fly zone over Syria. Now every time she gets hacked and it reveals some dirt on her she tries to distract from the dirt by blaming it on Russia to turn the people against them. She tried to take over Libya which resulted in ISIS gaining control, she sold tons of weapons to the Saudi Regime, and she wants to overthrow Assad (not because he's a bad person btw- because she wants control of the oil!). She took millions of special interest donations to her Clinton foundation, including from Saudi Arabia. The DNC manipulated the primary campaign in her favor, including telling media outlets what not to print. She takes all manner of special interest money from corporations and the fossil fuel industry, and makes speeches for hundreds of thousands of dollars to bankers like Goldman Sachs. She is a corporate bought lying imperialist war hawk! How can anyone who has done any research think she is not that bad?!

i can't get that logic in my brain, my vote it's not something someone has, just because somebody bought enough airtime to make me believe those are the real candidates. ......i am sorry but a president is more than a walking brand ,to me

Colbert has done well over 20 sketches mocking Trump including having a child play the part of his "campaign manager" and call him names. I think this one reaches you because it's whom you've choose to vote for and often people self identify with people they vote for. The uh tongue thing is pretty damn weird tho, imo.

Colbert tried to character assassinate Bernie as well. He's a corporate shill. These hosts are sold and bought like humor slaves and then given instructions who they can mock and to what extent. The only real satirists and comedians left work from KZbin, for the people, by the people. Fuck Colbert and his millions

that may be truth, i even dislike most of the mocking he does on trump. ...and i really dislike trump

How about just not voting then? The outcome will be the exact same (unless you are doing so for the sole purpose of bragging about having done so to friends and family who voted for one of two normal parties. Next you’re gonna tell me you call them ‘sheep,’ too 😓😥

That first antic only endears Gary further to me and it's kind of obtuse and ironic of Colbert to feign as if he suddenly doesn't have a sense of humor. We need a REAL person to lead our country, not some bombastic narcissist who spends more time worrying about how they appear to the world than how they can actually benefit it.

It's really funny reading through everybody fighting so hard when the earth is going to be swallowed by the sun in a couple of billion years anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Johnson: For the Bernie supporters that only cared about weed. Johnson: For the people who want to sound informed but don't want to do the research. Johnson: Sucks as much as the other two, but at least he's not mainstream

it is 100% scientifically proven that the sun is growing (very little but non the less growing) everyday, and it has been since it was created billions of years ago! And it will continue to grow for the next billion years, and yes one day it WILL swallow the earth! That is a fact! So before you make fun of someone on their "ridiculous" statement, at least google it...
@NameBrandCody8 жыл бұрын
and if the earths population continues to grow at its current rate our population will reach what is thought to be the max capacity in just 50 years. Many respectable people in the scientific community strongly encourage that we expand our efforts to colonize other planets. If humans want to survive in the next 100,000 years we will most definitely need to populate and spread out among different planets.This isn't just theoretical mumbo-jumbo this is a scientific fact! Very disappointed with the lack of research done in this piece...

Though Johnson is quirky and awkward in interviews and on camera, he has a highly impressive track record and proves to be quite qualified. If people took the time of day to research his views and accomplishments as Governor and even as an individual, it'd be clear just how much more of a wonderful candidate he is. Charm can be deceptive, don't always base your vote on who can smile and speak persuasively.

hildabeast will continue this path of destruction that your savior Obama started and it ruining our country.. please do some research. read stuff. please. don't just willy nilly vote for hildabeast cause it makes you feel like you did something better for humanity because you voted for a woman. i agree we should have a woman president in america one day. but NOT hillary clinton. if you did 5 minutes of unbiased research on her you would wonder how she isnt in jail for the crimes she has committed over the years.
