A journalist friend of mine told me years ago that there was about to be a HUGE story hitting the Newspapers (yes they were still a thing back then), about Lineker, that would bring him down, end his career and shock everyone. It never happened. Hence I agree with you, whatever he has on whoever....it must be juicy.

I doubt it as the BBC don't need to chase viewers/ ratings compared to all the other commercial channels. The other channels income depends on ratings to get advertising money, the BBC get the billions regardless via the licence fee. In theory 1 person could watch one of their programmes and it wouldn't matter to them one bit. The only way they survive is by the public paying the licence. All wrong.

@@topfuelteddy Yes I certainly hope so. The BBC read social media, but criticism doesn't bother them it seems as they just carry on regardless. If they were worried about ratings etc, they would of stopped the nonsense portrayed in what they so, big ears included. They are well aware why people are moving away from paying a licence, but I'm sure they know, no matter what government is in power, they will still get the funding they get to carry on. As a sweetener to the masses the tv licence could very well be scrapped. However, the downside to that is, that is they lump it onto normal income tax, then everyone who earns pays for it. Or worse still a broadband levy to pay for it, as nearly every single person over the age of about 1 day old, has some sort of broadband deal atm. Personally I'm happy if they just kept the licence fee as it is, that way I can opt out by choice, but not by the other ideas mooted about to fund it.

He adds nothing of value to MOTD. Saw 3 programmes over the Christmas/New Year at my sisters (no licence for me). The first on Christmas eve (only one match) introduced by someone nobody had heard of and all we saw was the football, OK. The second was the Boxing Day programme and all Garry said repeatedly was "What did you think of that Alan/Danny ?" and "The next match is..." No added value. The third was only a part of a programme on New Years Eve, and had an excellent and interesting analysis of the first game (brother in law is an Arsenal fan) - didn't know who the presenters were and well worth their pay (all 3 probably less than they pay Shearer, let alone Gary).

Was so liberating cancelling my licence. Haven’t watched the BBC for years now apart from the odd sporting live event they annoyingly have a monopoly over as ‘free to air’, though it’s not. Unlike ITV/C4/5 etc that genuinely is ‘free to air’. These are the channels that the World Cup, Olympics and others should go to. Not the expensive BBC that is anything but ‘free for all’.
