Anyone saying Gary Moore was underrated is way behind the curve . Gary’s brilliance had been recognised throughout the UK and Europe since the 70’s. For me , Belfast born Gary was simply the greatest guitarist the British Isles ever produced . Not only was he capable of blowing most guitar players off stage , but played with such feel and emotion, that few of his contemporaries could master or come close to. Gary may not have had long blond hair, a cute smile, and a California tan, but I wouldn’t have liked to have been the guitarist who dared share a stage with him . R.I.P to the master .

I agree with you on Gary being the best guitarist the British isles has ever produced, he’s my all time favourite, but in regards to people saying he’s underrated I think they mean in today’s climate with him being massively under looked by so called experts when they come up with these top 100 guitarists ever lists. Most people in there right mind know how talented he was and would put him in these lists full stop

I had the privilege of seeing Gary Moore play a local pub with Skid Row when he was about 17. Even then you could see how very special he was. At the Fender Strat 50th anniversary concert Hank Marvin played, David Gilmour played, but Gary (not normally associated to the strat) stepped out with an old battered strat and he made the bastard sing. Albert Lee had to follow him and was clearly NOT pleased. There will never be another...

The set up he had that night was unbelievable. Brilliant sustain and tone. The les Paul he's playing in this video sounds better than the others in this show. I know its not a competition but Gary blows the others out of the water at this show. They are all legends but Gary is top of the tree.
@heavenhelp19828 жыл бұрын
Agreed on Gary being top of the tree, without question. However, if John Sykes had been there to do something, it would've been interesting. Sykes is the only other Thin Lizzy guitarist with the chops, speed and power to be capable of competing with Gary in a guitar duel!
@sixstrings6667 жыл бұрын
Gary and Sykes definitely some of the best of British guitarists ever, love them both to death. I'd add Holdsworth, and maybe Guthrie, but he needs some more years. And yeah you can add Jeff Beck and Mclaughlin too. Throw in some Blackmore , Steve Howe and Steve Hackett and I'd be a happy camper.

Maybe my 2nd comment here, I had all of Gary's solo albums but on cassette, I used to jog, long distance run just listening to "Corridors of Power" such an Awesome title but Gary's vocals on this record and songwriting and production is just superb! My desert island top five albums always... Gary's style is "Full On", I heard he had to put #11's on his high E string because he kept breaking them when getting too intense on his solo's. But please , check out his rhythm playing, Vocals "Come on" the guy had "Pipes" and did not need a lead singer unless it was the Poetic voice of his brother "Phil", (Thin Lizzy) , Too much respect for Gary as an "Artist, , songwriter, vocalist, (not just a shredder guitarist) Who else can claim this in 2024? Yes, I thought so, no one..... RIP Gary, great work here on this earth, We miss you but your music lives on forever, unmatched....

We have Robbo to thank for the faster version. He speeded it up when Phil went AWOL from rehearsals one time. Before that it was just a slow blues. As such that song would never have been a hit. Robbo changed the feel of it completely and it was a classic. He never got a writing credit for that, which he should have done but he was young and naieve at the time. That's one of the reasons why his relationship with Phil was never all love and roses and why he has so little to do with Lizzy these days. Sad but that's people for you. As a song I love both versions but the hit version has everything in 2.5 minutes. Amazing.
