Remember playing this song while studying music in high school, we were 3 guitar players working hard to nail this song before we would perform with it. And just one week before the concert I got the news... Gary Moore had died. I cried like a little baby, but damn if I didn't get to give him the best possible tribute. Even got the Black Rose album cover tattooed on my arm shortly afterwards

Brian Downey was the perfect drummer for Lizzy. And without him, they would not have sounded sooo damn good.. One of my favourite classic rock drummer, real tight, aggressive, subtle.. His performance on Phil's ¨King's call¨ is pure magic. For me, he's way up there with the likes of John Bonham, Barrimore Barlow, John Panozzo or Cozy Powell. Relentless men on a mission.
@DirectDemocrat Жыл бұрын
You only think that because he was. If the drummer had been John Bonham, Roger Taylor, Stewart Copeland or somebody, you would have thought exactly the same thing because they too would have made the part theirs
@rsviews2167 Жыл бұрын
@@DirectDemocrat Nope. First, Roger Taylor was always just an OK drummer ; not very inventive but OK. You probably didn't pay as much attention to Brian Downey's playing as I did over many years. Taste might be personnal but to me, Downey has a recognizable touch, and sound, as well as tons of original ideas. I think his way of embelishment serves Thin Lizzy better than it would have Jethro Tull, or soft machine. Anyways, let's agree to disagree. It's not that important.
@johnlocke6506 Жыл бұрын
@@rsviews2167 Downey was ideal as he understood the music Lizzy did being a Celt. Taylor was way more inventive across a wider spectrum of material.

Well said, @Danvelgtr. People forget that Moore was only in Lizzy for a short while and yet watching this gig you'd have thought he was the main man. I'm not saying he shouldn't have performed but, in my opinion, Gorham/Robertson should have been the star guitarists as they were the members when Lizzy were arguably in their prime (Live and Dangerous 'era'). I also think John Sykes should have played a part in this show.
