I think Downey is a more technical than most guys kind of drummer, but not too technical that it gets in the way. One of my favourites too. His drum solo in bad reputation is probably my favourite of all time. Not over top, just right.

Brian Downey,the most underrated drummer in rock,he was solid as a rock & had an internal metronome that had/has no equal.I've listened to studio cuts against live cuts.... He was rock steady, never missed a beat,no wonder Gary Moore loved playing with him
@AllenIsaacs-r9r3 ай бұрын
Agreed, Also Phil was not considered really a bassist because such a brilliant songwriter and lyricist... I think he started out on guitar just writing songs, then switched to bass out of necessity... Let me tell you, as a Producer/Engineer. Very few guys can play bass with a pick and not rush the tempo and keep the groove... Phil is Brilliant with Brian on the Kit, I have been chastised here on KZbin comments saying how underrated Phil and Brian are as a backing section. They laid down the perfect groove, just behind the beat so the "Shredders" on either side of them "Could Shine", there were many. Eric Bell, originally, then, Gary Moore, Robo (Brian Robertson), John Sykes, then the American, very underrated (Scott Gorham), and even Snowy White on the last tunes was awesome. All Excellent ! It takes a strong leader, someone "Comfortable in his skin" and confident to let the songs go where they go and just "Lay it down" , Phil, Gary RIP......

Always loved this song. Love the whole Jailbreak LP. I'll never understand why the industry forces music into these narrow boxes. Hard rock. Metal. Punk. Death. Doom. Thrash. Alternative. Indie, etc. Then the younger musicians follow suit to the categories. Then their fans. Then the venues. Before you know it, guys are more worried about which Hot Topic patch of ripped T-shirt swatch they are going to pin to their denim jacket, than they are enjoying and honoring great undefined music like this. Montrose, Moore, Fripp, Beck, B. Campbell. Fuck now time is starting to take these guys from us. They can never be replaced.

My heritage is from the Emerald land, Ireland, and how this song brings in the Celtic melody is totally Phil Lynott's blood flowing through this...
