It's pretty crazy how a bored 12 year old sitting in his boy room decided one evening to upload this masterpiece to KZbin just for fun.. And now 11 years later I have brought together 2.6 million people to my video. That's half the population of my home country! Although it's all thanks to Gary Moore but thank you for watching!

I'm one of the Nightwish fans who found this while doing some research for a musical project I'm doing. I had always suspected this was a cover song, but figured it was an old folk song. From Gary Moore's "Wild Frontier" album from 1987, one of the most underrated masculine albums of all time. It described the complex political environment of Northern Ireland in a way that people can relate to (the album was dedicated to Philip Lynott, Gary being from Belfast, had a great synergy with the "darkest son of Ireland". songwriting and guitar playing is off the charts, this was Moore in his creative Apex as far as I'm concerned.

I never knew the Nightwish's version is a cover. But thanks to the band I delved deeper into Gary Moore's works. The funniest thing about the video are torches next to straw beds in the jail 🙂

I like those 'uniform haircuts' in this video :joy: - It was the times... then.... but I love the creativity in his music and most of all the uniqueness. You always recognize him, wherever you come across one of his songs on the radio or elsewhere.

When first heard. Goosebumps n shivers. A song that deserves more. I would go far to say a fore runner to the Levellers 😊

What an absolutely GREAT song! I love Celtic/Irish music and this melds the ancient with the modern in a way that is often attempted, but seldom accomplished. i can't believe I lived through the 80s without hearing this. Can't wait to hear the rest of the tracks on the album.

the heart of this song is English. But works well with the Irish arrangement.
