One of the best hard rock songs ever written - it has everything, great melody, beat and vocals. The guitar solo is second to none complete with a brilliant scale to take the solo to a peak with delay to finish and the mandatory key change to take us into the final chorus. Since the song is centered around a military theme what better way to finish than incorporating 'Johnny Comes Marching Home' with the song ending with an explosion. Not withstanding the work they did together in Thin Lizzy Gary and Phil could have done so much more so it is tragic that both are deceased now - what a loss to the music world. 'Out in the Fields' will remain my all-time favourite hard rock songs.
@christophervigil77294 жыл бұрын
With all due respect, it is protest-themed regarding the civil unrest in their homeland of Ireland at the time. Very much like what is happening here in the United States today. It was addressing religion and the dividing of the nation. Eerily and ironically, the song's protest theme is very relevant here in the U.S. of all countries, today in 2020. GARY and PHIL would be both appalled and saddened by what is happening here in the United States of America. ☹

It is a reflection of the human condition and our ability to ignore the blindingly obvious just for the sake of pride and pettiness. Don't get me wrong the criminality that was done in Ireland to the Irish was abhorent and contemptable, but how quickly we turned to blame each other was tragic. We are often our own worst enemies especially when all we want is the same thing, yet can't see enough to share. Life may not be perfect, but why do we make so much harder to bear?

@@elatomico7791 Last time was a few months before Phil's passing. Gary was in Belfast playing a solo gig and Phil came on for two encores. It was just amazing, the energy on the stage feeding off the energy from the crowd!

Damn, what a powerful pairing! Phil was a force to be reckoned with, and Gary? One amazing performer, any way you slice it, and arguably the ultimate "guitarist's guitarist" if ever there was one! (When EVH was asked who his favourite guitarist was, without even hesitating he answered "Gary Moore.") You're both still dearly missed, and with very good reason. They just don't make musicians of this caliber anymore, more's the pity!

This never gets old, the modulation on the outro is brilliant! The camera work on both of those fretboards is a players’ dream!

As Belfast was my home since the late 60s, I can't believe those who say Gary doesn't deserve a statue in the city. He's a positive role model - what more do you want?

damn, that solo is beautiful. I want that flamboyant 80's metal guitar sound back.
