Gary Newbon interview with Doug Ellis, Chairman of Aston Villa Football Club about the building of new boxes for spectators and planned improvements at Villa Park.
Shot of Doug Ellis walking out onto an empty Villa Park pitch. Gary Newbon talks to him about plans to build boxes which will include a bar and waiter service. He is asked if this will attract a new type of spectator. He goes on to talk about plans to cover over the exposed terraces on the Witton Lane stand. We see views of work underway to construct the boxes under the Trinity Road stand, a wide shot of the interior of the empty stadium and a shot of the Witton Lane terraces.

Iam a chesterfield supporter and I had the pleasure of visiting villa Park in October 1970 Aston villa 0-0 chesterfield... What an amazing stadium I thought back then.... There where over 40,000 supporters packed into villa park that day which is incredible for an old 3rd division game... Villa had a tricky winger called chiko Hamilton... What a player ran us spirites ragged that cold October day 👍

The grass topped ‘hill’ at the Witton end lol. I remember as a kid during particularly dull games, pissing around up there with my mates.

not a massive fan of deadly Doug, but huge respect for how he transformed villa in the 70s, at that time he was certainly forward thinking and ahead of the game.

When you look at that stadium back in 72 and compare it to now. Incredible.

@@Jinksy68 I’ve met him and he had wild dreams. He certainly wasn’t richer than those. He deserved the money as he was a good steward of the club. If he’s have blown money on players we wouldn’t have the ground and infrastructure that we have today. He was a great owner.

Ellis comes across very well in this, says all the right things, sounds enthusiastic ambitious also stands up to be fair with the man on the Terraces , to be fair he always said he was a traditionalist and didn't agree with all seater stadiums even thr 90s I remember, for all his faults thought. He was ok, alot.better than some, I wish more chairman owners now would communicate like he did over the years
