There were definitely some negative reviews of Oldman's batshit crazy portrayal of Norman Stansfield in 'Leon: The Professional'. Director Luc Besson felt that a minority of critics didn't pick up on the intended humour. The character became iconic and influential, though, so Oldman and Besson clearly knew what they were doing.
