Gary when i was 13yrs old i came from a little village on the west coast of ireland to work as a laundry boy in the Crest hotel at Heathrow! It was 1976.It subsequently changed its name to the Central Airport hotel. I have some amazing and some not so amazing memories of that time! If my memory serves me right, there was only 2 terminals at that time, on my day off i would go spend the day in those terminals marveling at the sights and multy cultural humans that id never seen before! Compared to today, it was such a different world then.... I think by today's standards the young generation haven't got any kind of understanding or concept of how completely different it was. Really enjoyed this one! Thank you so much.❤👉🙏👍♥️

How can you compare the best hotels with airports? You can avoid the best hotels. You can´t avoid the airports, and that is the reason why the restaurants are overpriced in airports. People are stuck there hours before flight, and often need a meal.

LOVE the flute from the Marshall Tucker Band in the background at 10:22. On the borderline slider burger; I never mind a smaller portion when the quality does the talking and the green from the romaine and bright red from the tomato spoke to me as well as the cheese and bun. Glad to hear it tasted good. On the last pasta meal, never eat bleached carbs; the nutrient to calorie ratio is so bad you'd be better off eating ice cream.

Hi Gary, I’m really glad you liked the breakfast at the Oceanic. I’m a Brit who has been living abroad for about 8 years, and the Oceanic is always my last stop before I fly back home to the U.S. So it’s my last “proper” full-English breakfast until I visit the UK again. I’m always impressed with the breakfast, the portion is good, and the prices aren’t crazy. I think the ingredients are quality and the eggs are always cooked just right (often a rarity in pubs). I’m always surprised it’s not busier. Once you get through security it is absolutely manic, with nowhere to sit and you’re packed in like sardines in the bars and restaurants. The Oceanic is one of the best places to eat at Heathrow or any airport I’ve been to, and it’s seems relatively unknown.

This review at Heathrow airport is fantastic Gary. Brilliant work. I think your review was very kind and fair. My husband thought that bacon was not good, chewy and fatty. What is that white stuff on it, fat? Burger and chips looked like kids size meal. I cant BELIEVE it, finally vegetarian meal 🎉 sadly microwaved. Airport ripped off! At Shannon Airport the cafe on ground floor makes fresh pizza...omg, very tasty, not overpriced! At Gatwick airport, you be suprised, Wagamama is the best, they do cook it on site with open kitchen. Gordon Ramsay at Gatwick is ok, not the best. I agree with others, airports have captivated audience, therefore they get away with pricing. More people take their own food. I hope Branson got the hint... looking forward to your inflight meal reviews. 😊😊

This is both interesting and useul to watch. Most travel vloggers just review the private lounges after security and not the actual restaurants at an airport. @JanetBrown-px2jn11 ай бұрын
In a restaurant at an airport they need to get food out fast, some passengers don’t have much time to eat ,so I’m sure any dishes that can be cooked in advance are, then cooled down to keep them safe ,and quickly heated in the microwave for service. The same goes for chips which are blanched, then cooled, and held for service, when an order comes in a potion is dropped in hot fat, there isn’t time to cook the chips from scratch,or the diner is going to be asking when they are getting their meal.Working a restaurant kitchen isn’t a simple job,to get all the food out on time, cooked properly is a skill.

Great Video Gary, the production also looking sharper, props to the (invisible) cameraman!!!Before I relocated to beautiful Clovelly in North Devon I was Senior a GM at Fuller's, we had the HUGE T2 at Heathrow, and when Wetherspoons couldn't make it work we purchased and renamed the other pub The Queens Arms in T2, so we had one on each side of terminal, regarding your burger, Charlcroft farm (Southampton) supplied the meat for all our burgers, some almost 400 pubs/hotels (imaging just how many 1000's and 1000's of burger we ordered as a company each week!) and the gouda used to be a HSB (a Fuller's Ale) smoked gouda that really hit the spot, as with any big company the prices go up, the burger you ate today will be exactly the same in any Fuller's establishment and is a "must stock" on the menu, but the price will, as you found out today, vary wildly!! Ref the chips, they would have been deep fried as usual (not allowed to oven cook) but look like they've been "hot held" quite a while! Really, as always enjoying watching you exploring your style and trying new formats, i'm still waiting for the sad day when you simply have toooooo many comments to answer!! GM Rich

Interesting idea to visit airports and try the food; I only liked the look of the tiny burger you had. But I remember many years ago I had a friend who's sister was an auditor and she was going through the books of what was then a major high street restaurant chain and discovered the true cost to the retailer of catering sausages - something like fractions of pennies each! It's made me avoid catering sausages forever after finding that out and it looks like you stumbled across some here.

It was well worth it. I'd make sure to tip big and often. Now my credit cards cover the lounge, but not always. Still a good alternative.

Great idea for a series! What did you do in the airport for the hours inbetween meals?

I think the service charge thing is perhaps pushed by the waiting staff who still want to make big cash tips. Especially in an airport where people are likely to have a chunk of money left over that they may never need again. I also think they're probably paying above average wages to retain staff that they've likely paid for their security passes to work airside

Some of the best food I have ever eaten was at Helsinki airport, Michelin Star standard for Heathrow prices although a glass of wine was £15 quid.

When I lived in Harrow back in the 70s and 80s I used to get the bus to Heathrow to watch the planes and have a meal...it was a cheap day out...

If I ever get over to London I'm going to Paolo's for my breakfast, what a great place. Did Paul remember you from the last time?

That’s a fantastic idea and yes, he did

My guess would be that they don't add the service charge because there's a lot of incoming international travellers from countries where that sort of thing doesn't exist and tipping is entirely optional. They don't want to deter repeat business from those customers.

Quite right about the unbuttered toast. Generally people don't add butter to a fried breakfast.

Maybe the service charge is included in the astronomical price for the meal , but they are trying to give an impression, that they aren't their for the money, they are there for the community. Yeah, sure! Not everyone came down in the last rainfall. Thanks ☮ for the review Gary, another excellent one

Good to know some of these places. In July I am flying home from a holiday in USA and I have to spend a few hours in the UK at Heathrow while I change flights so will try one of these eating places.

Gary...Greetings from Liverpool Kev...When I moved from London back to Merseyside 20 years ago....I needed to fly fairly frequently from Liverpool John Lennon to London City for work...The first time I did this...I was in the queue for breakfast as a group of solicitors from the Wirral were being served breakfast....The staff in Alexei Sayle jackets were so aggressive...one of the solicitors tapped me on the shoulder and said....'It is like waking up for one's first breakfast in Strangeways Prison'.....Great video as ever .....Better food at a big airport than expected I think we will agree.....Many thanks for your video Gary very enjoyable...Liverpool Kev
