And he ain't lying... Army recruiters really out there making promises for shit you'll never do. Spent 4 years in the Army as a Multimedia Illustrator, recruiter said I was gonna be able to do graphic design work for the military and build skills as an artist/illustrator... Instead, I spent 4 years pushing papers as an HR clerk in a hole under a mountain.🤣 (Not gonna lie, though... that HR gig was pretty sweet. Doing admin assistant work all day? Boring to a degree, but apparently I was one of the best at it. Too bad I couldn't reclass.)

As a Marine, if you loose your wallet, sure enough another Marine will find it. He’ll find you and bring it back with all the cash and cards still in it. But, if you leave a piece of gear laying around…it’s gone. You’ll never see it again. “Gear adrift is a gift”.

Abram Carroll I think you are missing the point. Does McDonalds give their employees 100% free medical, a free living space, and free food? From what i understand the military never done 16 hours a day per person. Maybe a 12er.

Gary and I are around the same age. I joined the Marines in 1997. My first three months worth of pay for being in basic training was just over $1800 after deductions (savings bonds, flight home). I got home and acted like I WAS BRAND NEW. $475 every two weeks doesn't sound like much, but when you consider that's $950/month with ZERO obligation...no rent, no food, no utilities, no cable...the only thing I was responsible for truly was laundry and toiletries. I know a lot of people who make good money that would love to be +$950 at the end of each month after expenses.

Honestly if more young men and wo.en joined the armed forces out high school we would have a completely different generation to build the future around. The rectitude, the discipline, and the character building offered by the Armed forces helps shape many people for success after their service. God bless all those who gladly give their lives for our freedom 🙏

Within a month, I was making $245 every 2 weeks. $3000/year base pay divided by 12, divided by 2 =$125 per payday +hazardous duty pay I think was $45/month +$75/mo flight pay as a helicopter door gunner=$245/mo for the privilege of getting shot at, but I wouldn't change a thing! $24k in military is $60,000 civilian. Top grade medical care, excellent benefits, free housing or housing allowance, food is free that’s at least $10,000 a year minimum, clothing as well. It’s endless. My uncle is an Admiral. It wouldn’t surprise me if he makes $250,000 annually. Commanding a battleship is extensive experience.
