The amount of detail is extraordinary The only 1/48 scale model kits for bombers in general has been the B-17 series for the longest time I remember the old Monogram B-17 G Flying Fortress model kit when I was very young in age. 😂

This is another one that is sitting in my stash and seeing you doing this lovely kit and how well it is going together it has got my model making juices going so B24 first then this or throw caution to the wind and do both together 👍

always the Marauder and the Mitchell B25 and Liberator were my favourite models I made as a young boy. although I bit maligned the Marauder proved one of the most successful aircraft of WW2 once mastered by its pilots

That front canopy is a superb fit. Gotta hand it to ICM. Thanks for showing us the build so far Gary.

Looking forward to this build series, especially number three, displaying is such a key part of the model. This video is excellent to see all the parts and details, you make it look so easy. ICM did a lot of research and molding on this one. I'd have to double check my archives however there is an awesome stain glass work dedicated to the B26 386th Bomb Group 9 th AF in St. Mary's Church Little Easton CM6 2JJ , " England". Years ago I wrote the Vicar and we exchanged correspondence and I donated to the church in exchange for a photo of the Stained Glass. The town remembers the crews like it was yesterday. This was before the Interent now you can download a PDF for about 45 pounds. There is also an American Chapel in St. Paul's for those Airman who passed while serving out of the UK. A log of their names is in A case. If you ever retire from modeling you could collect Stained Glass pictures from almost any area that had a base. Ironically the B26 almost didn't make it into service it was called the Widow Maker until Jimmy Doolittle flew it and figured out why it was crashing. It became the best medium bomber after that. However, I digress, standing by for number 2. Cheers, Bob

From what I understand, the main issue was the extra weight the B-26 gained between prototype and service stage, with a very high wing loading and a difficult to manage single engined performance. "One a day into the bay" as they said at one training centre. But then Doolittle (and the test pilots from Martin) went around and taught the instructors what was what, they passed it on an d the B-26 became one of the best medium level bombers of the war, especially in the Pacific Theatre.

@@garys_stuff" Roger that", Doolittle was like a modern " Sully" and could feel a plane. I recall they added some extra feet to the wing as it needed some extra angle of attack for take off. " one a day into the bay" sounds like a lot of power stalls for sure and Doolittle would have felt and over come that. Oh, I believe the rail in the kit you mentioned is for the 50 cal ammo feed system to the waste guns, if so I suspect another one on the other side of the kit.. Good to hear from you, Cheers, Bob

It looks a very nice kit and seems to go together quite well. I quite like ICM kits and have made a few of them. I am a great fan of dry brushing as I think it is a very powerful effect. I now mainly use oil paints to dry brush and put the paint on very sparingly because I think the longer the effect takes to develop the better the effect. Another advantage with oil paint is that it is easily rubbed off it the effect goes wrong. The only time I use acrylic paint for dry brushing is if I am doing silver or aluminium.

Many years ago I built the Airfix 1/72 model of a Marauder, but scratch built a solid nose version , luckily I had a very large spares box and a boatload of plasticard from my 1/300 war gaming collection so it wasnt a hard job, I also used the sharks mouth decals from a Curtiss Kittyhawk kit, for some reason I had two decal sheets with that kit. It built up well and it looked good with the 6 gun nose as well as the 4 gun packs next to the cockpit

The rails you mention are 50 ammo rails. Should be 2 of them to supply the twin 50's to the tail gunner. I believe the A model had a single mount. Also I think the rail was manufactured by a model train company. Lionel? Maybe. Enjoying the build.

In the waist, those long "beams" are the ammunition channels running from the aft bomb bay/aft compartment/armorer's station to the tail guns.

The two ammunition boxes are in that compartment.

Hey Garry if you had done some research regarding the interior of B-26, then you discovered the B-26 had not a singel colour of interior green in its interior. The floors and seats where black. The wands where olive drab in the front areas. The seats had a yellow seatpaddings. The bomb bay was dull grey and the after area was metallic.

Crystal magic glue, noted. Looking good so far, Gary. I loved the bit where you interrupted yourself (green screen), plans can change. I have so many kits i originally wanted to have in a flying display that it would be a shame to hide all the extra detail.. paid for it, may as well implement some of it. Looking forward to your next installment.. and the Valeriia interview this very afternoon. ❤

An other feather in ICM s cap this one is on for the stars for 2024.When Monogram issued their B-26 in the 1/48 scale I thought its the ultimate one,how wrong I was. That must have been in the early 1980s.At the time Monogram was the leader as far as 1/48 kits go.Much more popular in the US this scale, for us the rest 1/72 was the one to go for.
