📍 Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island (July 15, 2024)
#Recruits with Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, complete the gas chamber during Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear defense training.
Recruits are exposed to CS gas in order to familiarize themselves with the use of their gas masks.

😮 what the helll?!?! In ‘84 we had to pull the mask off and wait while 1 instructor went to each Marine and do pushups before we could put our masks back on. The smoke was so thick you couldn’t see across the room.

There’s still a year book, and I believe they do a flash drive if you want with the yearbook, out platoon had one guy buy and just emailed the video to everyone after though😂

@@stallingset7301 it's MCRD. You can tell because they're all wearing web belts in cammies (also unbloused boots.) So I don't think it's a gas chamber specific thing but rather just part of initial issue now. Edit: I didn't even think about the canteens. I don't recall bringing them into the gas chamber, but then again I don't remember most of boot camp besides the one time in 2nd phase that they mistook me for double rats and I got 2 pieces of chicken instead of 1 XD

@@SSGTru In 1972, we took the mask off, had to fold it and put it properly into the mask bag. All the time singing, or choking trying to sing, the hymn. Then make your way to the door of the quanset hut where two gas instructors wearing masks were waiting. If you weren't loud enough,or the bag wasn't closed properly with the snaps snapped, one of them would drag your snotty ass back to the end of the line.

In 1976 recruits would sit on benches inside the gas chamber room. The room would be filled with gas and recruits would take off their masks and find out what it's like. There was vomiting I remember. After exiting the building water would be hose sprayed on the recruits. The scent still lingered on the clothes afterwards. I was a dissociate (DID) who received a waiver. I went into the gas chamber four times without a mask. Dissociates can suppress sensory and feel no pain.

My instructor told me you could acclimate to the gas by breathing it in a lot, that was a huge mistake. I sat there taking huge breaths in of CS 😆 why isn’t it working?!

When I went through ITR in 1966 we had to remove our mask, and try to put it back on and clear it, also sitting on a set of bleachers in a out door class they popped gas canisters under us. It will clear you sinuses for sure.

Oh my.... How they have changed!!! If my memory is correct... No one got a gas mask till we were already in the chamber that was cloudier than the worst fog you'd ever seen... And we'd sing the Hymn at least 2 times and everyone had given there name and number loudly!! My my.. this video is just plan weak!
