I knew a volunteer firefighter in my town. He was a great guy, always helping people, he hosted events and parties for people in his bar. Heck, he even watched me and some other kids with his girlfriend during afternoon break of school, when my mom was working. Eventually he got very sick and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Over time he got worse until eventually he passed away, leaving his three kids and girlfriend behind. Ode to Niels!

Its interesting that the Gas company doesn't have blue lights and siren. They do in Sweden.

Liander is not a gas company, they take care of the electricity and gas connections. Vitens is the/a water company

Another funny gas man story , we were pushing a new plastic main up a old cast iron main , they brought in a new camera on caterpillar tracks to crawl up the old main looking for obstructions , we had set a TV monitor up in the back of a van , the big boss came out to watch, he was stood there smoking his cigar , the camera has a bright light on it and started crawling up the main , all of a sudden the screen went white with a crack running down the middle, the object moved and gave us the V sign, the boss spat his cigar out and a face appeared on the screen , bad Jimmy had pushed his arse up against the end of the main , 😂

I know what he's on about: Fighter jets have a very distinct high-pitched noise mixed in with the big loud roar (I've been near lots of them back in the day). Then again, this sounds plenty angry enough🤣 Still, makes sense though; seeing the (small) size of the excavator you'd think they'd design the high-pressure main lines well enough so that you can't rupture it that easily. Also, the gas company sending away the firefighters and police makes sense; that frees those units up to be able to respond to other calls. Anyway, cheers to all the people in the emergency service departments for keeping us safe and cleaning up our mistakes and accidents😄

Time for a funny gas man story .we had 12 vans working on a street Jimmy put a full weather proof suit on , he was working down the hole , then he said it's started to rain , I looked across and the other Jimmy was pissing on him , at lunchtime the bad Jimmy who only had hair on both sides of his head was sat in his van eating, someone insulted him so he stuck his head out of the window , Jimmy was crouched down waiting under the window , he pushed a hard hat onto bad Jimmy's head and shit squeezed out like icing sugar , revenge 😂

I went to a gas escape on a garden service riser , some kids had pilled rubbish up against the pipe and set fire to it leaving a 6ft flame I phoned my mate he said can't you pick me up later wife's just put the tea out , so on arrival the fire crew was waiting so I told them to swish the rubbish away with water and with my leather gloves pinched the hot plastic pipe together and sealed the leak .

I work with a couple of gas lines in the netherlands. We have lines of 7-8 bars and one around 40 bars. I do believe there is a system inbetween there, but not to sure

The management wanted more teams to work on the gas , so they gave me a bare hired van , a mate from the job centre 2 breathing apparatus 2 fire extinguishers to lay a new service pipe into a house of a block of 4 , I rang the supervisor said it was impossible, he said wait I will send another team up to help you , the next day I went for some dinner arrived back and a team was digging up the serve pipe he said he knew what he was doing so I went to find some fencing , went back and he was dragging the fencing out of the van really fast I said hang on where's the fire then I noticed the ornaments on the lawn , he had reconnected the old pipe to the 4 houses and blown the house up nextdoor because of a open end under the floor boards, when the big bosses arrived I calmly backed out of the Street and left . the poor guy couldn't understand what he had done wrong.
