Hi Derek, first of all I would like to say all your videos I find highly educational and very helpful. You doing a great job. This my really fist comment after I have been watching many time your video. I have one very important question. I know to how to do the gas in all the types of the meters, the most difficult I find is the one you have to press 3 times 9, the problem I have is when I do gas rate is the time it takes. When I do gas rates if it is gas hob I turn all the rings and if it is free standing I turn the grill and oven and I compare with the total that is displayed on data badge. Even with one gas rate for the whole cooker I find it time consuming can you imagine If have to do this 6 times (4 x rings + grill + oven) for one appliance that is at list 18 minutes if add one minute between every gas rate. How others gas engineers do the gas safety for two appliance in half hour or how can you apply for job when the company ask you to do 10 to 11 gas safety a day?
@tomkatgastraining3 жыл бұрын
You will find the guys doing the 8 to 10 services a day don’t gas rate because as you say it takes too long. They use regulation 26 9 which says heat input or operating pressure or both so they just do operating pressure because it’s quicker. Also mate when you gas rate you should do them independently so you can see the correct rate. Thanks for you comment and try to keep the high standards 👍🏻

Question So if an appliance is manufactured after the year 2000, should our final kw per hr gas rate, not already be net value? So on a new combi boiler ie ideal logic it’s on the back net !! So after a rate we still need to use our 1.11 to net the net ??? lol Hope you get me lol
@tomkatgastraining Жыл бұрын
When we gas rate we use the gross calorific value of natural gas and the gross mega joules so that’s why we need to divide by 1.11 to turn it to net so we can then check the results on the data badge. Before 2000 we didn’t need to divide by 1.11 because the gas rate is gross and so was the data badge.

Another outstanding video Derek, great revision only one thing I got to say the 30 in your equation I thought it was 3600s (there 3600s in an hour) divided by 120s to give you the 30 but apart from that hope to see more short video 👍🏽
@tomkatgastraining4 жыл бұрын
You have already done 2 minutes so just x by 30 to = m3/ hr less numbers to remember 👍🏻

Hi Derek another great vid, ive watched some vid's on gas rating and they Gas Rate on High fire service mode rather than running a hot tap. i do what you do run the tap. \Do you do service mode high fire on a system boiler?
@tomkatgastraining4 жыл бұрын
No high and low tells you it’s maximum and minimum rates it doesn’t tell you what the boiler is doing . High and low is for flue gas analysing. Remember non condensing boilers don’t have a high and low setting and a lot of old condensing boilers don’t have them either.
@tommyblackman71194 жыл бұрын
Good video Derek, totally understand gas rating from my ACS , I WAS TAUGHT THE SHORTCUT WAY... just a question, what if gas rate is wrong say data badge says 7.8kw for a gas hob, you gas rate hob an only get 5.5kw, but flame picture is fine What would you do then? Pass or fail appliance
@tomkatgastraining4 жыл бұрын
You would only fail it if you were getting incomplete combustion or the flame went out if you turned it to low

Hi, I hope you can clarify one issue, Worcester Bosch 8000 states the appliance needs to be operating for 10mins to measure Gas Rate and to look at the tech specs to get the figure which states. Natural GAS - “Gas flowing maximum rate 10min from lighting” - Unit - 3.2 m3/h - I would assume 3.2 m3/h is the gross figure not net ? I would appreciate if you can clarify thanks.
@tomkatgastraining5 ай бұрын
@@Anonymous0-g8m when you gas rate it’s the gross kw that’s why you decide by 1.11 for the net figure
@Anonymous0-g8m5 ай бұрын
@@tomkatgastraining Really appreciate the fast reply 👍, Just to clarify we are talking about the technical specification provided by manufacture which states gas rate m3/h the KW is in DHW. My understanding from what you are saying any spec provided by manufacturers states in m3/h it’s measured in gross which needs to be converted to net 1.11?
@tomkatgastraining5 ай бұрын
@@Anonymous0-g8m after the year 200 the manufacturers give the reading in net but when we gas rate we have the gross gas rate but turn it into net kw

There are lots of ways of gas rating the way I do it shows you how to do it and understand where the figures come from ie cv of gas and how many mega joules in a kw. Not sure what you have been taught but if it gives the same answers as my way and you are happy with it then carry on 👍🏻
