This is a reference to the infamous Disney documentary where many lemmings were forced to jump off a cliff, which is not something they do in nature. Lemmings actually have rather standard survival instincts and are just as likely to throw themself off a cliff as any other burrowing mammal.
@Ethelberd4 ай бұрын
@@CodyDylanFerrellDue to the fact the man shot 2 kids prior to this incident, the police likely would have gotten away with shooting him unarmed under the assumption he was armed when he attempted to flee the scene. The police accidentally shooting the bystander would be left up to their level of training and funding - more training and funding equates to fewer excuses. Of course there's wildcards such as a judge and jury, who may have biases that influence the outcome of the lawsuit.

We had to transport inmates to court, the hospital etc. we, as correctional officers could fire on a person who was escaping or was trying to help someone escape provided the escapee was charged with certain crimes.. forgive me for not remembering exactly, was thirty five years ago. Murder, armed robbery and rape for sure. Mind you, that was for escaping, no weapon involved. Pretrial at that. I'm pretty certain that if that guy tried to run , with or without a visible weapon, the police would have been justified in wacking him.

I work for 7-11 corporate, been working on projects with the on-site techs and I hear hilarious stories about how ignorant people are. You could put signs everywhere stating the stores are closed, turn the lights off, block the pumps with cones, and people will still find a way to try to use them. One tech was doing a pump test which takes about 2 hours. During the test you can't have any pumps be used or it ruins the test. He had 10 minutes left on the test and a landscaping crew came through, removed the cones that blocked the pumps, took off the yellow bags on the pump, and snipped the zipties that kept the actual pump in place. Then they used the pump and the tech had to start over. I'm a patient man but I don't know if I could handle that kind of stupidity.

The same reason they keep screaming "police." In case the person is having a manic episode/on drugs and doesn't understand what is happening or is hallucinating. They keep screaming the same commands in hopes that he realises and finally complies. "Show me your hands, drop the gun, this is the police", etc. Though they take lethal action if required. It's just looking for the quickest, safest solution.
@RustCole014 ай бұрын
I suspect it is also a liability thing. That way, in court or in front of the Shooting Board, they have video proof that every time they re-engaged with the suspect, they offered him an opportunity to surrender. It's also a good blanket command for bystanders. Like that absolute moron that fled out the front door while repeating the phrase "do not fvcking die", over and over again in his head. I know it's just bad luck that he and the gunman picked their outfit off the same exact mannequin at the mall, but that was like one of those movie scenes that seems too preposterous in real life. Where the cops are practicing clearing a building and a hostage does something unbelievably dumb, much to the annoyance of our hero cop. So, apparently people do just fall down while in a horror movie scenario and innocent bystanders do panic and come very close to getting themselves shot.
