Gas Stove Top Not Working? Lighting? Clicking?

This is a very simple fix for most stove models/brands. This is due to a faulty ignitor module. If you turn on your stove and it does not click then this is your video. Is it 1 or 2 burners not clicking igniting? This video will help you determine how to fix this common issue with any gas stove top.

This worked for me. Carefully pull off the knob from burner not working then try a quick spray of electronic contact cleaner at the u-shaped stem where the knob came off. Let contact cleaner dry( a minute or two). Place knob back on but not too tight . Test it first. For me, it started to click again. Good luck.

This is interesting, that cleaning it worked. I have been fixing a Dynasty 6-burner gas stove that had 3 nonworking burners. 2.5 of the problems were simply that the burners were full of gunk. The worst of them was the burner whose knob won’t turn on the spark igniter. I thought might be the switch, like this one but maybe it’s the gunk! Especially given how gunky the burner above it was.

Great tip, man! This did the trick. However, I didn't need to replace the module. In my case I clean the inside of it with a q-tip/alcohol front and back. After that it worked good as new!!

Wow...I LOVE youTube and people like you Sam! Thanks to you, my 2 hours of troubleshooting has come to an end! I found another video about gas not lighting (an excellent video as well) cleaning the "hole" where the gas comes out. Also found a great video on how to open the stove top (most tops open by a putty knife) mine (Frigidaire Gallery)was like yours, you need to take off knobs and then the cover plate to unscrew from below with the oven door open. I tried swapping the white plastic igniters (good with the bad) and the one burner still didn't work! So frustrating. I was at my wits end using several swear words, and I just about gave up but decided to keep searching on KZbin, and then I found your wonderful video! I only wish I had found it first! I swapped the good with the bad burner ignitor module just like you had and voila, the burner worked! Now I just need to find these ignitor modules that you feature. Where did you find yours? Mine looks nearly identical to yours It is labelled "ITW Jemco" SSR-V110 F2HO-T6DR

What do you do if all the burners aren't clicking? How do you know what part it is? Which which one? I don't know what it looks like. I don't know if it's the wiring harness or if it's that insulator or is it the box with all the wires on it the nighter thing or is it each one? I mean all four bad. The little bitty ones on the burners

@@lrsimonds Hi. Yes I did it, it's been awhile now but it was pretty straightforward. I did a lot of cleaning once I was back there. My biggest problem was the *very* sharp edges of the metal sheet I had to remove in order to access the place where the harness plugged in. I didn't realize how sharp they were & gave myself a very nasty cut, so wear leather gloves or something while you're doing this. Like a lot of projects it's somewhat time-consuming (maybe a couple of hours?) but not hard.

No need to replace igniter in my case. And it wasn't the electrical contacts failing to conduct electricity either. DIRT had fallen into the U-shaped stem leading into and through the igniter. If your stem is U-shaped or even if it's circular as in this video, probe into the channel with a long, narrow, sharp metal tool. One idea is a piece of coat hanger with a bent tip. Then twist it around to loosen the debris inside there. First you'll get a couple clicks that die out. Clean some more and you'll get three or four clicks. Keep cleaning till the clicks are continuous. Fixing stuff beats replacing it by a mile.

I replaced one (extreme right) ignitor module correctly on my GE gas stove Here's my problem: Ideally when I turn the knob from the OFF position at the top (say north) in counter-clockwise direction, it's supposed to start clicking at 45 degrees (say north west) and the gas is released at 90 degrees (say west). But instead it starts clicking and ignite at 135 degrees (say south west) but the gas is still released at 90 degrees (west). As a result, some gas is released and I have to turn the knob back to 90 degrees (say west) after the flame has lit. It means the clicking / ignition is off by 90 degrees. I verified that I connected the wires correctly (correct colors) and also the ignitor module is installed correctly just like other 3. Any idea on what might be happening or is the module faulty ?

If you can get spares, it will save you money on the expensive harness. They are actually called spark ignition switches, not the module which has two wires, a neutral & ground, & four more to the each spark ignitor at the burners.

Check to see if the range power chord is connected to a working electrical receptacle, and of course, the condition of the power chord. If all is good, and it still don’t spark, disconnect the power chord again, and clean the electrical potentiometer contact pads or contact tracks, mounted on the valve shafts behind the knobs (if and only if you can have access to them), If they’re sealed shut, & you can’t get to them, then look to see if the igniter module is getting power, and putting out. If it gets power, and doesn’t put out, then igniter module is probably toast. If it ain’t got power, search for a broken or chewed wire, or the wire connector plug for severe burns or pull damage, before the igniter module. If the module receives juice, and puts out, like it’s supposed to, then look into replacing the valve or knob potentiometers.

The best thing to find the exact part is to open the oven or broiler door. Take a picture of the model number and type it in Google and get an exploded view. This will give you an in depth view as well as numeric parts to coincide with the specific part you need. Hope that helps 🙂

What he calls spark modules are really spark igniter switches. The spark ignitor module is a the small transformer with two leads, the line & ground, and four more leads going to each spark igniter in the burners.

None of my burners will light from the knob. It stopped clicking. They light fine from a match. They do not click or spark from the knob. All five stopped at once. I cannot find any help for this problem.

Spark Ignition switch. It is often sold as a complete set (for all four/five burners and harness wiring). Difficult to find just one spark ignition switch, probably because manufacturers don't want you to splice the existing harness and rather you replace the whole thing! It's all about the Benjamins!
