Red Kote is a great product. I did two motorcycle tanks with. I used nuts,bolts,and drywall screws.Packed each one in the dryer dry and no heat.I used a couple of boat cushions and old blankets. Ran it for somewhere between 1/2 to 1 hour. Great video!

Not that anyone doubt Taryl. But this man does absolutely amazing work. If he was a leader of a small engine repair cult I would be a loyal follower. He rebuilt a Briggs engine for me many many years ago.. like 15+ years.. I still have that engine and it's used daily on my riding mower. It's finally showing its age... it still starts and runs but it's lost power. All I did was change the oil on time using good oil and kept the thing tuned up. After watching this channel I went out amd got a compression checker. It's low... I'm thinking valves or rings. I would love to take the motor off and mail it to Taryl with a fat check and have him rebuild it again.

sonichuizcool use Slick 50 or Duralube on small engines. Immortilizes them. Both products are heat-activated and work particularly well on air-cooled engines (which run substantially hotter than liquid-cooled engines). I used Slick 50 on my Honda CB650 years ago. The effects were unbelievable. Engine ran WAY cooler, quieter, more power and better mileage.

New to your channel as of 2 weeks ago. I've been working on small engines for over 40 years now. I guess I was about 5 or 6 years old when I wanted to know how a 3 hp Briggs worked and tore my Great Grandpa's 1974 push mower engine apart just to see what was in it. He caught me pulling the Crank out and went and got the bull whip and said "If you put it back together and it runs and only leaks oil I will not use this on your butt". And I did and it run better then new... LOL. Only thing I got help on was the timing marks on the cam. Remember I was 5 or maybe 6. Been working on them scents. Opened a shop for 10 years in 1991. Now drive truck and use it for relaxing when home. Will retire in a few years or maybe even this year to reopen the shop. Watched a bunch of your videos and found a lot easier way to do a lot of things I was doing the hard way over the years. I have never had any training on small engines just figured it out on my own. Or read about some things in books and service bulletins, ect. Now I have you, Mustie, and a couple of others to get tips from. You are my new favorite because you make it entertaining and informative. Love it

I've used this successfully on small engine gas tanks. Buy some Daisy BBs pour them into the tank along with whatever cleaning agent you're using. really helps to knock the loose crap out of the tank and you can rinse and reuse the BB's on the next tank. Also another thing to help get rid of rust with the BB's is Coca-Cola or CLR. just be sure to thoroughly rinse the tank and get residues of either agent completely out.
@dkeith454 жыл бұрын
Agree on the BB's. I used to use #8 lead shot, and that's ok for steel tanks with light rust. For heavy rust, BB's are indeed the best.

Tip for paint tins, get a flat head or chisel and hammer a hole in the lip where the paint lid sits in, i hammer holes around the whole tin, inch or 2 apart, that way after you pour, it drains back into the tin and then when you put the lid back on the paint doesn’t displace out of that lip and spill over, it saves wiping excess, saves paint, prevents the lid from gluing shut.

@@emma67890 I agree, if you can afford the new tank. Because it's a HELLA lotta work to clean a rusty old tank. I purchased a very nice old Gravely 546 (non-running), garage kept, not run in 20 years a couple months ago. But the previous owner had kept the tank full of gas, which was BLACK as coffee and stank to high heaven when I drained it. I could have gotten a NEW tank for $150, but being a cheapass, I chose to clean it, and it took many hours, over several days, a LOT of work, 20+ rinsings to get it mostly clean, at least clean enough to use Red Coat on it (purchased at O'Reily auto parts'). It's good now, but I highly recommend buying a new tank if you can afford it.

If ya got a real bad rusty tank, check out caswell fuel tank epoxy sealer. No prep, mix it up and dump it in. Its thick and you need to make sure you coated everywhere, but it will seal up everything including pin holes. Expensive but good stuff. Its tough too so the pump nozzle won't chip it and make it start peeling.

6:25 i wrapped my generator tank, in a quilt, with drywall screws in it; = placed into dryer, set on '' AIR ONLY '' cycle, for about 3 rounds (90 minutes or so...) then soaked it in vinegar (acetic acid, about 4 % ) for a week, or so. CLEANED ALL UP. Rinsed with de-natured alcohol (absorbs moisture, same as ethanol = wood alcohol).
