Three Top Tips..... 1...Always check the boiler is working as it should be before commencing a service , don't trust the customer saying it's ok because once you have the cover off and you find it doesn't work.....It's your fault and you will have to fix it....!!! 2...There are a lot of old Worcester greenstar boilers out there that don't like the power switched off to service or repair them and they will not fire up when switched back on unless you fit a new fan , be prepared to leave the power on or don't touch them.....!!! 3... Even if your having a bad day always be polite to your customers and use a dust sheet under the boiler if it's in a position where you could cause a mess.... Cheers Allen.....👍

Be punctual, professional and always leave the site clean. Don't always expect your clients to be the same. Take your time and try not to over think or over complicate things. Remember Safety, Safety and Safety. You're the competent person on site. It's your judgement as to whether the appliances carcasses are safe or not. If your unsure ring call manufactures, technical or gas safe. Always, always refer to manufactures instructions and handbooks. They hold key information to servicing, repairing and operating. Be reasonable with your pricing. Don't undervalue your training and efforts it took you to get where you are. Oh and learn how to use your multimeter and flue analyser correctly. In capable trained hands they are your eyes and ears inside the combustion chamber or appliance at the present time. Finally take pictures of flue sampling points before you leave. Cover regulations 26.9 and you'll sleep easier.

Fantastic video, just had a quick question. Aren't those voltage detector sticks considered unsafe for use by electricians to prove dead, and you're supposed to use a Voltage tester with a prooving unit?
@rodknee87
@rodknee87 3 жыл бұрын
The volt stick is to use on boiler case before you do safe isolation inside the boiler using a multi meter

Safe to touch test on the boiler casing and Gas meters. It's in no way means or form for safe isolation procedures.

If a PRV operates for the reason it’s been designed why would the water be in excess of 90 degrees C? Are you sure you’re not confusing a PRV by TPRV on an unvented cylinder?

Boilers need a 3A fuse, but does this apply to all gas appliances eg, a cooker? Thanks for the video. Yours Chris.

You would always need to check manufacturers instructions. Most boilers need 3amp but not all, also some warm air are 5amp. Thanks

Bit like Flat Roofs, all Expansion Vessels Fail ...Once could mention to the customer the Age of the Expansion Vessel and suggest if they were getting same replaced some time down the road if it's very old...one can always quote for replacement for next years Service inclusive of same then let the customer choose...

Hi, im currently doing a fast track gas training course and have realised most people in my class are already plumbers of some sort. Would you say you need to be a plumber to become a gas engineer?
@martinpearson9300

No, I am a gas safe engineer and dont do plumbing but you need contacts who do plumbing otherwise you will lose lose business.

@@martinpearson9300 what do you do then pal ? Just boiler work ? I am newly qualified with no plumbing background. I kind of don’t know how to start.. thanks in advance.

@@user-mad-man I stick to boiler servicing, repairs and landlord certificates. I pass any plumbing work to local plumbers who arent going to pinch my customer for gas work. I started off printing a good quality card ( 5,000) advertising a special offer boiler service, cheap but not too cheap, I then hand delivered them with a little help from friends. I got a lot of enquiries and a lot of people kept those cards, I still see them 7 years on attached to fridges/boilers/noticeboards. The first 2 years are hard work but every customer is potentially a customer for life. Its all about building a customer base. If like me you dont do plumbing then you need more. If I was younger I would learn some plumbing skills but it is too late for me now. You will need to be able to change 2 port and 3 port valves and pumps but I couldnt even do that to begin with. Hard work is the answer and it starts with leaflets, cards or advertising ( expensive option). Learn as you go. If I can do it, anyone can.
