I am not surprised that something came loose. Almost every other video I have seen on youtube of those home built jet engines and turbines show about half the metal surfaces glowing various shades of red, orange, and even yellow during operation.
@2005GLI11 жыл бұрын
if im understanding right, they start the turbo with a some sort of leaf blower or air line spinning the intake of the turbo which interns spins the exhaust side pulling/creating vacume in the combustion chamber which then in itself creates enough force to keep itself running with the exhaust it produces which spins the turbo.
@angusdigby168811 жыл бұрын
Piping gets red hot, not much of a problem, exhaust turbine housing gets red hot...always a problem!
Compressor gets red hot....hopefully you're not anywhere near the problem.

Yeah, the pipes don't supposed to go red, imagine yellow! That's nuts! At those temperatures the metal won't hold. You got lucky no chip of that yellow metal flew in your direction!

Exelente ,pero deberias de enfriar el lado de la turbina impulsora para que no se funda la propela Tal vez sea posible haciendo que el aire que entra del lado de admision pase primero por la zona caliente y se lleve un poco de calor
@kinsley210815 жыл бұрын
If you build your combustion can properly, then it doesn't matter where it's mounted, the actual hot part of the flame which is about 2000Degrees C will not be touching the metal, it will be shaped by the air that's not being burnt.
@triton11515 жыл бұрын
When steel gets hot enough, it will melt. In fact, in other videos of those home made jet turbines in operation, there were times that from the way some of those metal parts were glowing, I would have estimated their temps at around 2,500 and even as hot as 3,000 degrees in some cases.

So what came loose? That is one of the best running rigs I of this type I have seen on youtube so far. Congrats!
@DangerZONEpixel11 жыл бұрын
If it sounds like a pulse jet then it probably is running like a pulse jet. If the turbine doesn't spool up fast enough wen you start it, it will just run slow and not push enough air into the combustion chamber. Also it could have somthing to do with your air/fuel ratio. If your running it too lean, the fuel tends to burn out before enough fuel can go back in to replace it. Causing the effect of a pulse jet.

@highvoltagefeathers wasn't trolling bro, it seemed to me the blades melted because of the heat. Eventhough a turbo is oil cooled its not made to widstand this kind of heat/force.

Decent setup, though i agree, you guys had a inefficient combustion chamber, the tube should never get that bright. A temp guage on it attached to a speed limiter would allow this to be run for long times. Also, have you ever tried to tap into the turning of the shaft for a generator?
@Reverseflush15 жыл бұрын
@SPB282008 Look at the mounting. The part that is heating up the most is also what is holding it down. Metal weakens at high temps. What would stop it should it break off.Answer; any other object. A face, a chest..

Great video guys! What calculation did you use to determine the appropriate distance/diameter for the flame tube in the can there? Also what kind of fuel nozzle are you using? Have you considered using air cooling fins on the flame direction tube to keep it from getting so hot? I would like to learn a thing or two from you guys. Again, awesome video!!

the combustion of the fuel goes from that container in the vice to the turbine housing and the :pipe that connects then heats up in the process.

needz to have a flametube that has 2x the diameter of the inducer for the diameter of the flametube, and 6x for the length, yours looks like it is too small and the combustion chamber must be at least 1 inch wider than the flametube, it must also have a pattern, and there is also a forum to that, it is because it looks like the exhaust gasses are too hot on the output side. please correct me if i am wrong ;)

do you think about to inject water with the fuel in the combustion chamber (with another injector) to get down the temperature? Taht can down the temperature of flame and increase the pressure with water vapour, and needs less fuel... or not and I'm wrong...
@Dude-yo5ec6 жыл бұрын
João Ricardo Bento as a car enthusiast i say that we have the system in race cars it's called "water methanol injection" And it's 50,50 water and methanol and the system injects it to the intake manifold.keeps the engine cooler under high pressure in a race.but what you said is doable. They can inject it before the combustion chamber.

GReddy turbo? Q: if you put a intercooler on the intake of the combustion camber (like a car) wouldn't you get a cooler intake temp and raise the density of of the air making the turbo work better? i know my stuff about cars and all that shit and i know its not a 576hp car but wont it do the same thing? it makes sense tho

blown turbos ftw, PS an actual jet turbine has the flame coming out of the compressor where the fuel mixes with the air and becomes self sustaining, all you had there was the turbo hot side running off the exhaust like it does in a car and the compressor side just compressing, no actual jet being created.

@rudeboyzero15 жыл бұрын
You don't need cool air "blowing over the combustion chamber". The combustor needs to be built in such a way that the flame doesn't actually touch the combustor walls. Since you only need about 25% of the air for combustion, the remaining 75% should be used to cool things...internally. In this case, the fuel is obviously burning behind the combustor...resulting in a catastrophic failure...

The combustion chamber is too small, so the exhaust side of the turbo got a very hot flame instead of gases. Next time try to change the combustor design. BtW: it is very dangerous when loosen parts fly out of the turbine housing, there so fast that they could give you a headshot.

Holy shit folks... I've been working on this for months... this is the FUCKING REASON you separate the two turbines on a turbo, on a regular gasoline engine!! . You wouldn't need a stupid freaking ineer-boober-colter if you just simply separated the two FUCKING TURBINES... Every production vehicle with a turbo in it, is already fucking up as soon as you drive it off the lot. All the complication, and mishandling and abuse with sacred knowledge has been used to over-complicate EVERY-ONES lives!! . I still haven't found ONE SINGLE video, where someone separated the two turbines, and eliminated the innerboobercolter.... that engine dominates the streets!! . You aint burning me coppers/dad!!

When these jets run for a decent period of time and end up turning red and white hot, is there any danger of some kind of catastrophic failure? I may be wrong, but Im under the impression that when metal is red/white hot (EG: @ the 2:00 mark), thats when its at its most malleable and weekend state; thus, the combustion chamber could potentially fail. Im I completely wrong?
@roguepathfinder24775 жыл бұрын
justin hyland in actual jet engines the turbine blades are made of a slightly more heat resistant alloy of nickel and (usually) are liquid cooled so the engine doesn’t experience what you see in the video. On top of that the temperature of the turbine is very strictly monitored and the part that you see glowing red or white hot is the afterburner. The afterburner just mixes unburnt air with more fuel in order to give some extra boost, it happens after the turbine so it does not heat the turbine. Hope this helps
