I don’t understand the thought process behind just taking some guy in a dress’s word for it that he’s now a she. Why do people refuse to believe that male predators might pretend to be trans women to access women’s spaces with evil intentions? Anyone who would look at a women’s crisis center and decide that it’s a good place for a man who identifies as trans has either never been a victim or has bad intentions. To complain so loudly about the rules in place shows either profound ignorance or profound misogyny.

If a trans woman can’t understand why it would be traumatic for a female rape victim to be speaking about that rape to someone who has been, or physically still is, a man they are not knowledgeable enough about a woman’s lived experience in the world to be a rape crisis counselor. To complain that you’re being unfairly discriminated against because the safety and comfort of the rape victims at the rape crisis center is considered more important in that place than a trans person’s desire to insert themselves into that space and counsel those victims is ignorance.

The way they keep forcing their way into female-only spaces shows that they don’t really want to be women at all. They clearly don’t even like women, as they keep trying to take away our privacy and safe spaces. This is nothing but a power play for them. And it’s beyond disturbing.

As a rape victim-I’ve gone knowingly to a male doctor I knew I could trust and who showed me infinite compassion and care- however, if I were to attend a crisis centre if a man pretending to be a woman was the only person I was presented to talk to when I was expecting to speak to a woman with biological and cultural experience of male violence I would not be ok with that and would leave and not return for further help in crisis.

Re the person who commented on your comment, CEOs can and do (as with MW), set the tone of guidelines, protocols etc. MW should imo be removed from this position as he thinks victims and staff should challenge their thoughts and beliefs. Additionally he gave false information on interview given that he got the job advertised for a female. A sari, long hair, ear rings and lippy does not mean yer a woman!

6:40 It doesn't matter if they had good intentions. What matters is that women are able to be comfortable with who they're talking to. That is what the crisis centers exist for. If the women are uncomfortable due to the person being biological male, end of story, because they can't open up the way that they are seeking to, leaving no point in the existence of these centers.
@edoboleyn
@edoboleyn 3 ай бұрын
Exactly. If a women’s crisis center required a male plumber or electrician to visit and make repairs, that man would have to be accompanied by a staff member. He would not be left alone. That is not because they believe a random electrician is a predator. It is because they are taking reasonable precautions. Beyond the risk of actual abuse, female survivors have a right to seek care without the presence of men, regardless of those men’s intentions. The same is true of male survivors made uncomfortable by the presence of a woman. Anyone who repeatedly seeks to transgress people’s personal boundaries and safeguarding rules-particularly those of vulnerable abuse victims-should be regarded as suspicious.

I have used the Edinburgh Centre myself Decades ago. Had it not been for them I don't think I would have had the confidence to talk with my GP, a Kindly Soul who listened and helped me navigate the emotional destruction and self harming for Years on end. Had I walked into the centre today and was confronted with this, I'd have walked out said nothing for fear of being branded a phobe, and never spoken with a gp either because it was the lady at the centre that convinced me to be open and extend a little trust in my GP. This is wrong on so many levels, there are others in the comments far more eloquent in expressing why and I agree wholeheartedly. This is a slap to the face of victims for the gratification of a Man in drag and the thought makes me physically ill.

I used to work for the local council in Benefits. As a male I wasn't allowed to touch a single case that went to the women's shelter nor know the address. Only one specific woman could touch them. The women and children involved could literally be murdered or r**** if not. So the career route for a male to work connected to these centres is non-existent except if you're a chairman of some umbrella organization which means you wouldn't get to that position via some connection to those centres. Even then, male figures of power would hold meetings with the heads of the centre on a highly confidential basis without knowledge of private data. Males who actively try to work in or gain access to even information on the location of a centre would be prosecuted. Rightly. If I used my position to try to find out about women or the centre they'd have jailed me. There is no non-suspicious motivation for trying to "get involved". Sane males do not want to know where these centres are let alone gain access to them. If a male dishonestly gets an interview for a female role such as this case I think they should go on the "list". There is no justification for it. That male shouldn't be allowed near confidential data or jobs involving women, children or vulnerable people. It doesn't just raise red flags it's a genuine reason to convict.

If anyone else is reading this and hasn't seen Ute's channel then it's absolutely fantastic and regularly highlights studies and events that are hidden from us. It makes me want to cry. I just don't understand what happened to turn the world on its head like this. We women have fallen back into second class citizenship again, and it gets worse all the time in the UK. Round about 40 years ago, I was attacked by a man on a very early morning train. Every person that interviewed me was a man. Not that they weren't sympathetic, but it was still made worse telling a male stranger the details of the attack again and again. Still makes me tense up, even now, after all this time. But to go into a Crisis centre and discover that you're talking to a man dressed as a woman about a most intimate horror - it's beyond words to express how I feel about that. Indeed, to me, it's a p***-take. How dare they put women through that experience, when they are already holding on by mere threads.

Women who have suffered rape ansolutely must be allowed to be in a female only environment for as long as they need to - they surely need that 'space' to recover. A rape crisis centre (RCS) that is not female only has to be a contradiction in terms & not fit for purpose. Not fulfilling its purpose. The ex CEO conning his way into the Edinburgh RCS has to be a self serving act of deceipt - no matter how good his disguise. It looks like its more important to him (& the ERCS staff?) that he be accepted as a woman than to have an effective RCS. - wants to be accepted as a woman so much he'll undermine the RCS needed by actual women? - cares about actual women (whom he wants to be) so little he'll do that? A male forcing or sneeking his way into a RCS has to be suspect - can't be there for anything other than dark, self serving reasons. Sounds like UR better our of it.

You would think that would be the most sensible thing, wouldn't you? But the trans activists don't want this because they see it as transphobic to separate transfeminine males from women in such a way. They want transfeminine males to become as indistinguishable from women as possible. That's why they want people to medically transition younger and younger, so that they "pass" more easily (passing, in case you're not aware, is the state of looking so convincing that people don't think you're trans when they look at you). And part of "passing" as a transfeminine male is having people not treat you any differently from women. That means being allowed into women's spaces, and no one batting an eye at it. And that _would_ be fine, if they actually applied that philosophy consistently. But they don't. They think transfeminine males shouldn't have to "pass" at _all_ to be treated just like women. They _want_ people who are visibly male, or "clockable", to be allowed into women's spaces. They will accept no less, as any less than that is "transphobic". For me personally, I am comfortable with sharing locker/changing rooms with transfeminine males (so long as they've had bottom surgery and are clearly making a genuine effort to pass. IMO these people are not a threat to my safety). But I know that other women are _not_ comfortable with that and they should not be forced to share the space with them. That's not transphobic, but even if it _is,_ why does that matter? Rape victims often do develop irrational phobias. That's the nature of trauma. To not be sensitive to that is deeply misogynistic.

It would have been wholly inappropriate for a man, no matter his identity or fashion, to be a worker in the centre or crisis line. Nixon was offered other options to support the house, the work, and the women, but was not satisfied - I feel like the idea of being a battering ram for Nixon's own politics was MUCH more important to Nixon than helping women escape violence. Many thousands of dollars and hours of organizing and labour were lost to defend sex-based services and spaces which should have gone into helping women and their children break free.

The world has gone crazy. However, one oddity stood out in what she said. Under Scottish law you can't rape someone if you don't have a penis. That may need to be corrected. Nothing to do with gender ideology. However, a woman can rape another woman. A woman can rape a man. It may not be as common as men doing it, however putting it into law that they can't seems dangerous. There are plenty of stories of women having sex with underage boys. I'm assuming that happens in Scotland as well. Men can be drugged. Men can be abused. I guess it may seem small in comparison to the other issues discussed. However, if you're fixing things. Why not fix everything.

This situation sounds problematic only if you are of the opinion where all Transwomen are sexual predators. In fact, none are. Some men pretend to be Transgender after getting arrested, not before. No doubt hoping for a softer ride in prison. In no way are they genuine. Secondly, in what alternative reality does a CEO deal directly with victims? They only deal with staff and are responsible for the organisational operation of the entity, not the day to day routine. Fear mongering again.
@tmc7903

No, it's problematic because the CEO's ideology meant female rape victims were turned away because they questioned the gender of someone non binary that worked there. Because they thought the person was male and it made them feel unsafe. This ideology also allowed a male sex offender who identified as non binary to use the centre. Literally putting rape victims in danger. Also, blanket statements like 'no transwomen are sexual predators' are just as ridiculous as if someone was to say they all are.
