Gassi recipe | ಗಸಿ | Gasi recipe | veg gasi | Batate batani gasi | Chapathi gasi | Bhat‘n'Bhat
A simple curry by using vegetables like potato carrot and green peas etc. Which can be a best combination with dosa, rice, chapati, poori etc. This is prepared without using any ready-made garam masala; instead simple spices added which are available at home. Please try this simple, tasty and healthy curry by using any vegetables that you have at home.
Ingredients
Potatoes 3
Onion1
Carrot 1/2
Soaked Green peas 1 cup
Water
Coconut oil 5sp
Cinnamon
Cloves 5-6
Pepper 10-15
Urad dal 11/2sp
Chana dal 11/2sp
Spicy chilli 2
Byadgi chilli 5
Greated coconut 1cup
Turmeric powder
Red Chilli powder
Salt to taste
Jaggery
Tamarind
For tempering :
Coconut oil 1sp
Mustard seed 1sp
Red chilli
Curry leaves

Every time I see the grinding stone and the coconut shell you used to take out masala after grinding it brings back the old memories. The taste of things are totally different when we use electric items for grinding. Really appreciate your efforts in giving good traditional recipes . Thank you.

Dear bhat, I have seen so many people showing different types of recipes with modern cooking equipments like grinder, mixer, chopper etc.. etc.. but you are the only person in entire India who is using traditional equipments in cooking. ..excellent !!!keep it up. Today's generation doesn't know grinding stone, coconut crater, butter churning stick etc... U tube is the channel of younger generation... So you are giving an introduction to the equipments used by our forefathers in kitchen... So younger generation will also get knowledge abt these things. I wish that you should get more and more rewards.. thanks

Hi Sudarshan, the first recipe I tried seeing your video was Goli Bajje. Although i live permanently in Frisco we try SI Cooking as me and hubby are from Mangalore -South Canara District. Although my Mum uses garlic and Curry leaves which i used in my preparation before, today I used your recipe with Surnagadde, Elsend seeds or black eyed kidney beans. My husband loved the flavor as did I!! Thank you for your simplicity , and the the person who takes the video so well. The grinding stone reminded me of being a child as I used to grind fish masala for my aunt during summer holidays . Thank you!!!, great curry!!

This is so wonderful..I just added a small tomato and a piece of onion while grinding..rest of the part followed as per the recipe shared..it tasted great with chapati ..❤

GASSI OR GHESSHI is a Konkani ( saraswat/ GSB) DISH with coconut,rhizome, as basic ingredients. Coconut is used in many forms ,many rhizomes are usable, use of onions optional, and whether the MASALA is fresh or roasted and its ingredients vary from family to family or at least town to town.and based on availability. Slight variation on ingredients or process give the dish different names like Indian cuisine. So one can think of 1000 variety of GHESSHY. (Sukke,Ambattu, many times using names borrowed from local vernacular too like Kannada,Tulu, Malayalam or Tamil,Marathi,Gujarathi,Bengali,.... since KONKANIES being basically migrants ,adopted cusines from local communities for centuries .

@@sadashivabyndoor3551 . Nothing castiest in my comment..In that case use of any SUR NAME also can be castiest. When I mentioned Konkanis as MIGRANTS, it Is based on History of a group of Indians who were migrants from at least 1365 AD mainly due to RELIGIOUS Persecution.And that part of history has been totally covered up by everybody for centuries. konkani does not represent.only one Community or Religion,but.ironically all 3 religions Hindu,Muslim and Christians. Only difference is the period. All were forced to escape from GOA at one time or other when the Government or rulers changed there.Thousands were killed. They migrated through out, (even before 1365 AD for over another 1000 years ,and that is why some are having river SARASWATHI in their surnames) India and abroad,returned back re migrated etc since then. Only one commonality was the Original Konkani Language., for Hindus Christians or Muslims. One has to learn History, migration and adaptations in food habits. Do not politicise. Indian food is still highly connected to religions,regions and even different casts prepare same dish differently . "BRAHMIN" name is a registered trade name for food products!And cookery channels freely use that to identify quality difference,.not to bring cheap casteism which is misused by politicians. ONCE RESTAURANTS WERE BRANDED "BRAHMINS" but entry was not restricted to any cast. That sign was to show QUALITY. Todays STAR RATINGS😁😆🤣
