You have such a well thought out and designed saw mill. You also have a very unique self powered log handling arch that I would sure like to see more details on if possible. Thank you for showing this video as I enjoy watching over and over.

I will copy your log attaching system (with couple of winches) on my future sawmill if it's okay with you. :D
@svendusmcveteraner8 жыл бұрын
We Think you should use band on the winches instead of rope it is stronger and easy to work with

Sadly Donn DIY we have been unable to read and write comment on our log in feel free to copy me as Hylte Mcveteraner said you should use band on the winches instead of rope it is stronger and easy to work with

You've done a very nice job on that mill. Have you noticed any problems with the chainsaw bar getting too hot by pushing it that fast / with that much power on the motor? It might be good to think about building a log deck 30cm off the ground with flip down loading arms. It would save you the chore of getting the log up on the sawmill's bed. Love the elephant!
@Svendus9 жыл бұрын
+Stephan P in BC Thank You 1: Dry timber will not do without external water-oil mixture cooling. But wet fresh timber, No problem The saw yield can exceed 40 Cubic meters. timber on one chain and a 20 inch saw sword or chain bar often keeps 2 to 3 chains. 2: Yes heavy logs are little difficult on a one man show :-) but two man fix it easily, we did not have the Yanmar tractor with front loader before last year kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5LLkKRvnZ6em7sm52s so all log handling was managed with th the Log elephant and it will not travel over a a log deck 30cm :-|

@Svend Nielsen You've made some amazing machines here, awesome job. Why not use a winch to roll the logs up onto the mill?
@Svendus8 жыл бұрын
You are right Mark Thank You . This was heavier than i thought :-) We some times use a rope and lay around but a winch should be beneficial

With your talents, i am sure you could have made a bandsaw mill. but you chose the chain saw. what helped you make your decision ?

Hi good afternoon, I would like to know what was the maximum Rpm rotation that you used in the chain? I would also like to know what size of the pulley used in the engine and the size of the saber gear used?
@Svendus3 жыл бұрын
3/8 8 tooth sprocket 8000 rpm . chain speed 20 meter sec.

How do you handle the oiling of the bar and chain? do you have a pump or gravity from a bucket that puts oil on to the bar and chain or have you found a way to put oil in through the oiling hole in the bar like a normal chainsaw would do?
@AWoodworkersLife9 жыл бұрын
I just watched saw video three and see that you have an 10 bar pump. Is it delivering oil to both ends of the bar or just the nose of the bar through the greasing hole?
@Svendus9 жыл бұрын
+Stephan P in BC Yes lubrication in both ends Lubricating trough a throttle valve and check valve at the nose wheel The permanent magnet closes tight to the chain bar and and presses the oil into the grease canal to the needle bearing. The chain and bearing gets lubricated in the right way and you can hold a tight chain tension and high feeding pressure. A hose with oil drops do not work at 8000-12000 rev. and 20 m. sec chain speed The magnet has a magic feature that allows the chain stays sharp longer A technique that also can be used for band saws.

when your rolling that log up on your mill you might try rapping a cable around the log 3 or 4 times and hook a comealong to an anchor point on the oppisit side

Very well thought out sawmill, do you have three electric motors or just two? and how fast are you spinning the chain? Thanks for showing use this.
@Svendus9 жыл бұрын
Thank You we have four electric motors 1 engine saw motor clutch maneuvered 2 track z pulley 2,8 - 1 1 engine friction dependent feed 1 engine for pressure lubrication of the saw bar and t nosewheel (Danfos oil burning pump with strainer dismounted) 1engine for adjustment of the thickens of the material 30 " 750 mm we have built a bigger machine where we used a pump that had left rotation this made it possible to mount the oil pump on the saw motor fan cover Spindle speed 8000 rpm. with a sprocket 8 3/8 "The Chain speed is 20 m / s. ( 8000 rpm are max on 2RS 62 series SKF berings )

another way you could get your logs on the mill is put a big steel post in the ground in front of the building at the mill then loop a cable from a winch around the log back to the steel post the log will roll right up the mill ramps as you activate the wench... That way you're out of the way of the log...

Svend Nielsen Takk for svar.

are you using water to lube the chain ? If so doesn't it cause wear in the bar ?
@Svendus8 жыл бұрын
Bos dad, no water can not lubricate a saw chain, we use mineral oil, but when we sometimes cut dry timber we use a mixture of water and 10 % oil sprayed on the chain bar itself from a bottle to cool it down.
