how often do you have to change/sharpen the chain? I was thinking of making the same setup weighing the advantage disadvantages of chain vs bandsaw blade.
@Svendus5 жыл бұрын
When we change the chain all depends on the length off the chain bar and the hardness off the timber. With a 20 inch bar and a 72 link 3/8” chain we normally cut 45-50 m3 planks in 1 to 2 inch thickness one bar can be used with 2-3 chains. How often you sharpen depends very much on how much dirt you have on the bark on the side off the timber where the chain enters the wood . The chain quality of the cut can only be compared with a band saw with 75-100mm bandwidth and such a saw is a completely different price point.

Incredible mill. Fantastic design. Does it cut in both forward and reverse? Looks like it does.
@Svendus5 жыл бұрын
@ Paul DeJohn Yes it cuts in both directions but only with manual feeding backward not to overload the nose wheel 👍

this is way cool...and fast...wonder what the chain speed is?
@Svendus10 жыл бұрын
Hi Ari Chain speed is constant at 20 meters per second installed 7.5 kw The motor is an ARGUS 55 + and we charge double the rated power 15 kw 30 A Chain raker is 1mm i doesn't recommend this without nose wheel lubrication. feeding pressure 0- 50 kg 0-15 meter p. min. Alright we have experimented with high speed chainsaw sword and 404 chain 35 meters per second, but have stayed at 20 m sec ( do to security and wear)
@apuuvah10 жыл бұрын
about the same as a professional chainsaw...not too much, so the chain and sprocket should last just fine with smoother tension of the electric motor...

a regular chain or a harvester chain with double the teeth?
@Svendus10 жыл бұрын
Ari Lehtiniemi harvester chain 404 "make 9 mm saw cut a 3/8" Ripping chain 7-8 mm we have of cause tried 404" they are very strong but makes lots of sawdust :-) a 404" with 6 mm saw cut should be good, but manufacturers want big volummen and can not take on small orders, the Picco chain are wery nice but do not stand long @ 15 kw
@apuuvah10 жыл бұрын
No, Picco chain can definetely not take 15kW electric motor...even 2.8kW Husqvarna 550 XP has trouble with 1,3mm (.050") chain not lasting.
